Actually, there was a time where "legacy artists" not only were nominated for Album Of The Year, but even won them. (Ray Charles' Genius Loves Company, Steely Dan's Two Against Nature, Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind etc)

This is a fine list. The thing I get stuck on is you repeating “the first 4 albums.” I think the first two sound like solo albums from the singer in a big band. The third record, Melting Face, is an album by an artist on a whole new level. There’s no need to mention “former Genesis singer” from that point on. In high school, I was a Collins/80s Genesis fan. I got So from Columbia House and loved it. I picked up Melt because I liked I Don’t Remember and Biko. My friends had heard Games Without Frontiers, but I hadn’t for some reason. That was the first record that really sank its claws into me. Moving forward, all the albums have done that. I basically forgot about Phil and Genesis at that point.

Honourable mentions: Here Comes the Flood, D.I.Y., I Have the Touch. Regarding Sledgehammer ... yeah, it's cool and all, but not my cup of Peter Gabriel tea. 😀 I want the moody, angry or sad songs.

I'm not sure it's easy for me to limit to just a top ten list. Much like all Genesis (and related) music, my favorites depend on the feelings they evoke and the point in my life when I was first introduced to them. Without question, Blood of Eden, In Your Eyes, and Mercy Street are epic songs, but also consider others that are similar in style, such as Here Comes the Flood and Don't Give Up. Obviously, there are dozens more that would top many people's lists. One that you should definitely have a listen to is With ThisLove from the soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ. You'll not find a more hauntingly beautiful melody than this song. In fact, that entire soundtrack is a completely immersive experience.

Actually not a fan of his new album IO. I'm in the minority but found it to be a letdown compared to the Up album . Four kinds of horses is the only song on IO I love.
