As a big fan of international racing these are my top races of the year. I'm just basing it on the races I enjoyed the most and found the most memorable. I limited it to group one races and lean heavily to turf racing. #1 - JAPAN CUP - Equinox ends his racing career romping in a star studded field, beating filly triple crown winner Liberty Island. #2 - SHEEMA CLASSIC - Equinox let the rest of the world know, what the Japanese already knew, beating top European horses easily. #3 - HONG KONG MILE - Golden Sixty at age 8, after a long layoff, wins his 3rd mile in a devastating performance. #4 - COX PLATE - Romantic Warrior wins Australia's top weight for age race in a historic win for Hong Kong. #5 - ARC DE TRIOMPHE - Ace Impact retires unbeaten. Unfortunately we'll never know how great he could of become. 6 - HONG KONG CUP - Romantic Warrior wins a thrilling finish over Luxembourg capping a great day for Hong Kong and showing the strength of their horses to the world. 7 - BREEDER'S CUP TURF - Auguste Rodin caps off a great year in beating top European and a good American Up To The Mark. #8 - STEWARDS CUP - This race way back in January was a heavily anticipated meeting between Golden Sixty, Romantic Warrior and California Spangle (who had just beaten Golden Sixty in the 2022 Hong Kong Mile). The race lived up to expectations with Golden Sixty getting his revenge. #9 - TENNO SHO AUTUMN -Equinox - enough said. #10 DEWHURST - Always looking to the future. Can the exciting City Of Troy be that special 3 year old next year? A few honorable mentions: KING GEORGE VI - Hukum MELBOURNE CUP - Without a Fight HK SPRINT - Lucky Sweynesse QUEEN LIZ (UK) - Big Rock JACQUES LE MAROIS - Inspiral Again these were just my personal favorite races!

@@elgransenor1472 That's because he spends nearly all his life racing right-handed. Mr Brightside is no slouch himself having his career best season to date. Cox Plate 2003 was rightfully judged the best race of 2023 because of the margin between the placegetters. Even Alligator Blood ran above himself in finishing 3rd.

Horse racing is an art form and while enjoying the thrill I enjoy a fine cigar. There are levels to fine handcrafted premium cigar and spirits. Selective boutique manufacturers like Didier Cigars is truly special. I’ve done the pairing with Angels Envy and a Salomon from Didier Cigars. The experience is truly magical and sophisticated.

An Honorable Mention from an American: Cody's Wish in the BC Dirt Mile. I can't really say who was the best American horse this year because none of them really shone other than Cody's Wish. Otherwise, some good choices. Undoubtedly Equinox & Auguste Rodin were 2 of the best flat racing horses in the world this year, followed by Panthalazz, Golden Sixty, & Without A Fight. Are you gonna do a similar list for the jump racers?

@AndrewBethell-p5k6 ай бұрын
@@bondalemecovillage6738 Agree. Not just horse-racing but all the racing codes pacing and greyhounds included. They have achieved the required blend of painting the scene, describing the race at say 80% volume, going through the field not just the leaders as they appreciate their is an audience following all runners, and then build the excitement to the final 200 m (furlong) at 95-100% volume, then to call the result accurately. In the West we have been fortunate to have (had) the most versatile , George Grljusich (1939-2006); the most dapper (I think Sir Dapper was named after him), Trevor 'TJ' Jenkins, and over the past 30 years, Darren MacAullay. He brings anecdotes about the characters and previous horses and usually placing the current race in terms of the history associated, say with the naming of the race. I loved his call of a distance race a few years ago when the French -born jockey, Matthieu Autier, sends a horse way out into the lead, ['...and the Frenchman says 'au revoir' as he's off on (Famous Journey in ATA Quality 2100 m about 6 years ago?)] For example today, 22 June 2024, in Race 2 Belmont there is a horse named Coondle. He remembered, and related sadly, that the originally named Coondle who was a good horse, but as I wrote, met a sad end. Sadly Australia has the worst Tennis TV commentators, and after listening to the recent French Open Finals, the BBC have the best, Annabel Croft and Russell Fuller, with special comments by Greg Rudeski. These things are of course subjective, though to the untrained ear there is no doubt that Mark Baston's original comment is correct, Australian racecallers are 'in a class of their own'. For you from Sydney I vaguely remember Johnny Tapp, and Geoff Mahoney. Darren Flindell is doing well as we speak (excusing the fact that today's Randwick meeting has been called off).

Who doesn't love a video countdown rankings that starts at #1? What are they thinking? Who starts with #1 first and counts up?
To me Equinox's best performance was in Dubai Sheema Classic. Watch that race in your own time. That was unbelievably insane because he broke the 2400m track record by leading all the way without being off the bridle for the entire trip. In Japan Cup he was chasing Panthalassa and Christoph Lemaire did use the whip once.

A lot of salty international racing fans on here and its natural to be patriotic. For me without a fight was the best, being able to travel so far and win the way he did competing in a full field in one of the hardest distance handicaps in the world truly is a monumental moment. Horses that travel outside their home tracks always get a nod from me, instead of staying home and claiming to be the greatest of all time though not racing the best of all time.

Wish they’d shown the Melbourne Cup the correct view: the camera in front of the straight, with the left to right view that most of the crowd trackside had.
@SpursFanCanada Жыл бұрын
I liked the overhead view it gives a totally different perspective than the regular camera angle.
@noirjacques3274 Жыл бұрын
I do somewhat agree, strangely. The camera angle they give here, though, is from the inside- showing a clockwise angle. That’s like watching the races the wrong way to what everyone in Australia except NSW and Qld are used to. Given it’s a Victorian race is part why I made the comment.
@russe1964211 ай бұрын
I've never seen that angle before,but I like it because it takes the whole field in and shows the positioning nearer to the rails you can't see normally.
