The colt has already claimed two Group 1s, including The National Stakes at The Curragh and the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse, England.
In addition to wins at Royal Ascot Racecourse in the Chesham Stakes, Goodwood Racecourse in the Qatar Vintage Stakes, Epsom Racecourse and Wolverhampton Racecourse.
Trained for Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby, Pinatubo has been ridden by jockey James Doyle four times and William Buick twice.
He has been given a mark of 128 in the European Two-Year-Old Classifications, a higher rating than champion racehorse Frankel at the same age.

The first time I watched Secretariat’s Belmont was in 1990; my first year following the ponies. I didn’t really know anything about him. My girlfriend at the time said I should watch his triple crown races. When I heard “Secretariat by twelve... Secretariat by fourteen...” I got chills up my spine. I still get shivers every time I watch that race. That run will never be duplicated. Sham was a great horse, and Secretariat broke him in 6 furlongs. Forget the world record time; on that day Affirmed and Seattle Slew and Citation and all the other greats would have been a distant second. That was a race for the ages; a race for all time; a race that not only defined a horse, but defined a sport.

I have watched this race more times than I can count. No other but Secretariat should be in the #1 spot. I actually felt sorry for Sham watching his total destruction in this race. Never has there been a Secretariat & while there have since been Triple Crown winners, they haven't even begun to touch that magic.

As awesome as it was for Theo to win by 49, it was a short race. Secretariat ran MUCH longer and won by 31. he should've been #1

Captain America America ... just so I’m correct... The vast majority of horse racing jocks, trainers, fans, enthusiasts, breeders and owners are all brain washed sheep? I’ve got no problem bowing down to a true talent but most of us brain washed sheeple don’t agree with you. Lots of horses lose races in their careers but show up when they need to show up. Not the horse you hold so near and dear to your heart. The horse is rarely mentioned in horse race folklore and has very few wins that place him in elite status. Gerry Thompson…Secretariat was not slowing down. He was being hand ridden…..never touched with the whip at any point in that race. Turcotte could have picked it up at any point he wanted….and ran 2:23 or faster if he wanted. He was not slowing down. Take a look at the alternate footage. He was running as strongly as he was early in the race. The camera panned out to show where the rest of the horses were so it may have appeared that he was slowing down but he was not. He was pulling away all from the field even more in the stretch. None of them closed that gap at any point because his lead kept increasing. He slowed down after he crossed the finish line.

Knew nothing about Secretariat until i saw the film on UK TV. I love horse racing having followed it for over 40 years. Secretariat holds the stakes record time for each of the three races. His time of 2:24 for ​1 1⁄2 miles in the 1973 Belmont Stakes also set a world record that still stands What a phenomenal horse.

I think Zenyatta's 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic win should be here. It's the most impressive race I've seen, second only to Secretariat in the Belmont Stakes. She broke poorly and started off dead last and yet she easily breezed by all the other horses to win the race. She was the first and still only female horse to win the Classic. Watching that race still gives me chills. Also, she definitely would have won the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2010 if she hadn't been blocked in and I'm still mad about it.

Zenyatta was a contemporary thoroughbred. She's still alive. She did beat the Kentucky Derby winner and the Belmont winner. That's what makes her win so significant. Also, no filly had ever won the Breeders Cup Classic. She remains the only filly ever to achieve this. That race is spectacular.

For distance won no doubt Secretariat was epic because he shattered the record and was the first horse to win the Triple Crown in 25 years. But Feadors win was something...He so outclassed that field, he was the winner before he had his morning oats. But if you are going strictly on "Epic Races" you MUST include Silky Sullivan. No horse (except for the movie The Black Stallion) ever came from as far behind to win. Including Zenyatta and Winx. Oh, and Man O' War won the Lawrence Realization Stakes at Belmont, Sept 4, 1920 by 100 lengths.💥

Aside from Secretariats' incredible Belmont Win by 31 Lengths, in which he shot out of the Gate like a dynamo, and stayed in front from beginning to end!! His Kentucky Derby and Preakness Derby races, were nerve wracking, in how he came from the rear, to make up the time and difference to Win!! He, Secretariat, made me think of a big Buick, slow off the start, but once it got going, it picked up speed, and momentum, and roared away, and nothing could come close! I think we all were expecting Secretariat to behave in the same way at The Belmont Stakes, and he ended up shocking us all, when he shot out of his Gate like a bullet, and stayed in front all the way, only to keep gaining more and more speed, and momentum, to finish the Belmont Race by an incredible 31 unbelievable Lengths!!!! I Love You Secretariat, you incredible beauty, and Wonder Horse!!!

That pass on the first turn on the OUTSIDE in the Preakness was beyond unreal. He went from last to first in 15 seconds while passing the fastest horses in the world. I was watching him from the very start of the race and I did NOT see Turcotte touch the whip (but maybe he did). That was all on Secretariat! And once he got in the lead he was on cruise control nobody was gonna be passing him that race was over right there and I knew it.

Most famous racehorses are related in someway. Secretariat and seabiscuit where basically cousins. Man o war was seabiscuit’s grandfather, and war admiral was his uncle. American pharaohs great great great grandfather was secretariat. I love racehorse history

I guess to me again I am new in horse racing, secretariat in the 1973 Belmont stakes is the greatest race I have ever seen. Secretariat's Belmont win was the greatest dirt track performance. It made the front pages here in Australia where we are mad about horse racing. Phar Lap did something similar winning a race at Randwick early in his career in the AJC Plate, breaking every track record from 8f on when opening up a 30 length lead. Eased down, he broke the Australiasian record by 6 seconds. Vain's 12 len win in the 6f Craven Stakes in 1968 was the greatest sprint performance I have personally witnessed, or seen anywhere. He ran 1m 9.8 on a badly rain affected track at Caulfield. I was at the track when Might and Power recorded the win above. The horse that ran 10 lens second won the now G1 Mackinnon Stakes the following Spring. His Caulfield Cup win was also astonishing.

Risen Star should be on this list. Secretariat's boy running at the Belmont, destroying the competition. He should've won the Triple Crown but the way they ran him in the Derby took it away. He was a huge horse, much bigger than his daddy and while he was a well tempered horse, you didn't make the mistake of not respecting him. One of my favorites.

I’ve read that Secretariat was actually ACCELERATING on the home stretch and over the line...after he died the necropsy showed his heart muscle to weigh a third more than average RACE horse’s heart...truly a unique creature, and arguably the greatest sporting achievement of the the last century. With all the advances and research into breeding, training, feed, medicine, workouts, and no other horse has come close to him in that race.

Dont forget the victory of man o war in the lawrence realization, Man o' War won by slightly more than a quarter-mile - the official margin was 100 lengths - while setting a new world record of 2:40 4/5 for a mile and five-eighths. This broke the existing world record set in England by ​1 3⁄5 seconds and lowered the American record by over four seconds.[41] This world record stood until 1956, when it was broken by Man o' War's great-grandson Swaps.[26]

@@Rennies-World I actually pointed that out in a post. Thank you. :) The owner didn't believe even in the Kentucky Derby, who knows what changed his mind for War Admiral, but that horse was his baby. protarget1 So why is Secretariat in the Hall of Fame and Prove Out isn’t? Secretariat win the Triple Crown after a 25 year drought and his records still stand after 47 years. He was unbeaten on the grass and defeated older horses in both of them. Oh and in the Woodward he defeated Cougar II by 11 lengths. He broke a world record in his next race the Marlboro Cup again defeating older horses.

A 1969 filly, The Bride, career record 4:0-0-0, and a 1965 filly, Syrian Sea, winner of multiple stakes but not a champion; a very good race horse, not a great one. Man o'War had 4 full siblings. One was a moderately successful racehorse. Barbaro has 4 full siblings, all younger. Three have won $100,000+, but none reached a million dollars. 3-time champion Bold Ruler had 5 full siblings. One was a moderately successful racehorse. There are many, many other obscure or failed racehorses who are full siblings to champions. Indeed, I am unable to think of any full sibling pair in which both horses have been champions/great, although such probably has occurred at some point. There is the additional "problem" that Zenyatta, bred to stallions more successful than Secretariat, has been a major disappointment as a broodmare. (Secretariat was a good but not outstanding sire of racehorses, not the failed sire many perceive him to be.) Zenyatta's two sons were retired with no wins in a combined 17 starts. Her 2017 filly Zellda has yet to make a start, which is of course also true of her yearling daughter Zilkha. For reasons of size and running style, I am personally doubtful Secretariat and Zenyatta would have been a good match, although (as I have been trying to point out) genetics is always a role of the dice. Sec and Z would have been distantly related enough to have been bred together, unlike Ruffian, had she survived to be bred. Zenyatta, btw, also had a 2014 filly who died from a paddock accident as a weanling; a 2015 colt who died a few days after birth from meconium aspiration; and pregnancy losses in 2018 and 2021. : (

@@toddjohnson7133 Frankel blitzed the field in the 2000 guineas in a manner no other horse has done in over 200 years. He beat Canford Cliffs in the Sussex Stakes as a 3 year old. He beat Excelebration a couple of times who was his same age and the closest challenger to him domestically over the mile trip. He beat St Nicholas Abbey and Farhh when upped to 10f in the Juddmonte at York. He beat Cirrus des aigles and Nathanial in the mud at Ascot. To have campaigned him more aggressively would have been reckless. He was the best of his generation and it will only ever be an opinion to believe there was another greater.

The so-called number one horse here (Feodore) was running significantly slower fractions than Twice A Prince did in coming second to Secretariat. In other words, if he races Secretariat on that day he loses by much more than 31 lengths. Theodore was a reasonable (but far from great) horse racing complete donkeys hence the blow-out margin of victory. At the 3/4 pole Secretariat was a full 9 seconds (45 lengths!) ahead of Feodore. Curiously, Feodore is also a descendant of Secretariat via AP Indy.

I honestly never bet on any race. But I’m the only one standing on my chair shouting and screaming and immediately after any awesome race bawl like a little girl. Got no clue why though. Secretariat did something that had never been done before and hasn't been done since then. After the Belmont race, he wasn't even winded or even sweating. He ran the last furlong quicker than he ran the first and he wasn't even tired. Turcotte would later state that he was only there for the ride. Secretariat did it all on his own. The whip was only there because it was required. Turcotte never used it on Secretariat, only talking praise and encouragement. When Secretariat heard "let's go" it meant to switch to a faster gear, and he did so.

Man O War was and will always be the original Big Red. 😁 he would have raced in 1921 but they wanted him to carry a record amount of weight in an attempt to make the races fair to the other horses. Man o'War was forced to extend himself in the Dwyer against John P. Grier, the second best colt of the crop, and who was carrying a lot less weight than Man o"War. The race chart says that MoW was "hard ridden." Both horses were wiped out at the end. John P. Grier was the only opponent to make Man o'War extend himself.

That race was arguably more impressive for his time even than for his length of victory; an easy world record for 1 5/8 miles in what was essentially an exhibition, not a race. Man o'War was competing against a single opponent, not multiple ones vying for place and show money. His lone opponent was a last minute replacement, entered by a sporting owner. Hoodwink had a lone win, a maiden victory; he had an otherwise totally obscure, undistinguished career. He was surely eased up, as was Miss Musket early in her 50-length trouncing by Chris Evert in their 1974 match race. But it was incredibly impressive for MoW to set a world record with what amounted to no competition, and him under restraint at the end. Kelso would eventually tie Man o'War's world record time.

I hate to break it to the Secretariat fans, (and I'm one, trust me) Man o' War won a race by 100 lengths. He slaughtered a competitor in a race and was being held back for most of it. (The owner refused to let him out fully for fear of him being injured, and this was the only race he was fully let loose and he gained 25 lengths in a furlong when he was let loose.) The horse wasn't that great, but that still doesn't slow down his accomplishment.
