I love how all these people comment with negative views like, "You shouldn't ...", "You don't need ..." , "You have to have..." Every person has different needs based on their individual strengths and weaknesses. That is why there are so many variances in these videos. That is the point!! Thank you for sharing your kit with us. Viewing all the different kits makes us re-evaluate our own needs each time, and honestly if you guys are anything like me, my core priorities are always the same, but the other items constantly change based on skills and environment.

Excellent video content! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard about - Saffebbi Subconscious Smasher (do a google search)? It is a good one off guide for discovering how to protect your family during a crisis minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my coo-worker at very last got excellent results with it.

Glad to see a young man teaching the 10 Essentials! I've taught this in my Outdoor Living classes for the last 40 years, but it seems that many people who participate in outdoor pursuits today have never heard about them before. Keep it up - these few items are the basics for any survival kit on any continent. Other items can be added, but always carry the 10 Essentials: Map, compass, sunglasses/sunscreen, extra food, extra clothes, headlamp/flashlight, first aid kit, fire tinder, matches/lighter/fire steel, and knife.

A good basic list. But rarely mentioned in 'kit lists' are the skills and knowledge to use the kit. No matter how fancy or expensive your kit is, it's useless unless you practice and hone your skills in varying scenarios throughout the seasons.

VG, no-nonsense video. This basic kit gives you a good start to build on for your-own situation. Starting with a basic kit will inspire one to do it, while more advanced kits linger in the department of good intentions only and never get done.

Lots of good things to bring along, great video. The fire starting gear, knife, and the canteen & cup would be the first and most important items in my kit. I don't even go anywhere in my everyday life without a lighter and knife.

Good video. I agree with most. I'd trade the saw with a multi-use small hatchet or something. Trade the first aid kit with a large scarf or bandana. Consolidate the water container and cook pot with a single metal water/cook container. Having 2 items for that is convenience not essential in my eyes. Compass is nice, I like the magnifying glass. Nice dual purpose. I need one. Maybe specify the type of knife. 90 degree spine for the rod ignition, full tang, etc. Really good vid though. Doesn't matter what you prep.... its what you end up with in that situation and make due. That's why knowledge is so important, like knots, actually starting fires with glass or rod. You get my drift.

This is one of the best videos I've seen on YT! Well thought out and well presented. Your kit looks much like my own. I'm especially glad to see a genuine first-aid kit rather than a couple bandages and a packet of triple antibiotic. It's also refreshing to hear you say it's the kit you "use". Your kit is a good basic outdoors kit regardless of environment. It will work anywhere. Not just Britain.

I have only listened to the first 45 seconds so far. I am hopeful because this Gentleman has already spoken a truth that a lot of " SO - - CALLED " Survivalist never say. He chose his Kit Based on the Fact that he lives ...IN ENGLAND.. This proves if nothing else he used his brain to pack what would be advantageous for someone living in a specific climate. Just like no 2 kids or Dogs or Guns are a like, There are also no 2 climates alike either...Good work Laddie.

i really dig what you said at the beginning about adapting your kit to your specific climate, i think a lot of people over look that aspect, and just pack relatively lightly. living at the foothills of the adirondack mountains in upstate new york, our climate swings dramatically. from bone chilling cold and snow in the winter with over 110 inches of snow annually on average, to temps in the 90's in high summer (30-40c), it quickly becomes a challenge to decide what and how much to go with.

Good video. You made a very good point about keeping your specific climate in mind when selecting gear. I would suggest a mylar space blanket in your possibles bag, as it retains 80% of your body heat yet folds up to the size of a pack of cards with neglible weight.

After the hurricane-that-wasn't here in NYC last year, I've been giving some thought to what I would (and could) do if some sort of catastrophe took place which either temporarily or permanently knocked out most of the technology which modern people depend on and take for granted. As a result, I've been taking some preliminary steps to be prepared...and even though I live in the US and not the UK (although I did once), it's comforting to know that I already have most of the essentials together.

Great information! I personally prefer the half 550 paracord, or often referred to as 275 paracord. It's about half the weight, and half the bulk, meaning that you can carry twice the length for the same weight and bulk. And if you need 550+ lbs of strength, you can simply double it. So it's more versatile. Cheers from Southern California. --Scott

Good choices to take. Did you mention food? The ten essensials, the way I practice it America, always includes a little food; I like some preseasoned, instant 'whole grains' in a zip-lock bag. It keeps forever and is quite filling. A couple of pieces of dark chocolate and a couple of packages of soup will round it out, all in the same zip-lock bag. It's an easy thing to carry. Low weight, bulk, and gives you an added egde of safty if you have to spend and extra day or two out in the bush.

Where ever you are in the world, although you can add items to suit the environment, the essentials are the same. The fire steel didn't have a striker, don't waist sharpness of your knife making fire. On purification, these days a good survival straw will do. Duck tape is a must. Bungees instead of string for the basha is a good idea, the strands can also be used. Redundancy is vital, back up everything. Not a bad video, collect more info and stuff, nice to see a Brit. making one of these.

Thx for a great video Mike, But theres is one thing that i would change out in your kit, thats the tarp. @gambleyourhealth I understand your point, and often at night I'll use the stars for navigation. But in England, fog often obscures the view of Sun and stars. For modern day emergency use, a map, compass, satellite phone and GPS are the items I might wish I had....

Thanks for your video. The most important thing, as stated in this video, is to make the kit for your area of operations, these vary greatly all over the world. You need to understand the particular weather / flora / fauna threats in each area and the natural resources available to you that you know how to use to your survival advantage: this requires a lot of bush time. Practice with all your items and be confident with all your kit. Rude and dumb arse comments like stovepipe9er and Gjaa Gjaa do not help, keep them to yourself. Kind regards to you all, Greg

+the oncoming storm. His comment on the video was fine and you will see that I am in total agreement with both you and him on this. How ever his comment to Ei Pi was unnecessary. Many people from different climates add their opinions because this is important for them. It is fine to make a technical correction and or point out a dangerous practice. However in a survival situation it is up to each of us to take what is appropriate to our environment, if it seems too much kit that is OK, as it is they who are carrying it not you or I. By way of example: many east US survivalists choose only to carry a survival straw and no water bottle, OK not my problem; by contrast I come from the driest continent on earth, so my survival rig includes two water bottles, Milbank filter, a bladder and solar still and other necessary stuff. I fact my survival kit is modeled on the SAS belt order for the last three decades and it has served me well is some very remote places. We can each learn from one anther as this survivalist forum environment is wonderful for inventiveness by young people and you also may share something of worth for us all. Kind regards, Greg

For one, you do not need to buy any type of paracord to survive with because it is unnecessary. I was homeless for three nights in Fisheman's Park, and never did I need paracord. The park provided me shelter in the form of a huge sturdy pavilion. I got electrical power from electrical sockets/wiring attached to poles, and my solar power bank that I bought. I got water from the public fountain, and the public restrooms. My food came from a Food Pantry, or a Walmart. My clothes were provided to me free of charge by a clothing voucher. Medicaid gave me some meds, and I walked a lot.

Looking at your kit, I see you have the basics covered. and that's what really matters in REAL survival. I don't know what was in your possibles, but water purification tablets should be considered, if for some reason you can't boil your water. Being more important than food, you should always have a back-up way to make sure you have safe drinking water. And since they are lightweight, consider two water bottles instead of just one. May be a long time between refills. Best wishes from the U.S.

I know that. And for that you don't need a compass. There are a lot of ways to determine sides of the world that don't require compass or any other tools and/or accessories, but that's it. It doesn't help much if you don't know your exact position. That's why we use maps. It's a must have, IMHO. As for GPS, batteries lasts several days with a solid power bank and careful usage. But still carrying a map+compass as a backup.

Tarp is good, but tarp and pocket hammock is better. Off the ground means far less cold, and energy kept is good energy. You can tarp along all you like, but hammock would still mean more warmth. Your torch in an emp pulse will go dead. You need a yo yo fishing reel(doubles as snare), and a 110 single spring body trap. Then you can actually eat too.

My kit is a SAK knife, a bic lighter, 5 Kleenex tissues, a tiny pen light and some tape on a card. I spent a few nights on the streets (urban survival) when I was young and it was all I needed. Shelter isn't a prob in an urban setting an and I was never out on my ass long enough for hunger/thirst to become more than just discomfort. Just my 2 € cents

I live in Norway, so with the steel, I'd need to add flint, because here in Norway, you could be wandering for days trying to find flint/tinder.

even if 3 hours exposed to the elements don't kill you, it doesn't really help you to survive either. try the following: do 3 sets of 20 push-ups , open the window of your bathroom, turn off the radiator, and shower for 3 hours with the coolest water you get.(that water is still going to be approximately 10 degrees of Celsius) whatever you did in the woods, it was physical exercise of some sort, and you probably didn't expect to stay over night, so you don't have appropriate clothing.
