Love Skunk and Larry, but the Dias solos are what make me just go WOW!

Steely Dan solos are legendary for their lyrical memorable qualities but Denny Dias is just so funky and slinky it's just crazy great!
@davidregehr26872 сағат бұрын
Tim thanks for that. I'm a life long Steely Dan fan, at 66 they're still my favourite band. I've never played a lick of guitar but there isn't a solo in their repertoire that I can't Air Guitar note for note. Icons! Loved to see your grin as you played.

Forgot Boston Rag. That solo is next level.

I gave this video a "Thumbs Up" before I even viewed it! I just knew it would be exceptional, and I wasn't disappointed! We are so, so fortunate to have access to great guitar players like Tim Pierce.

Donald Fegan & Walter Becker composed amazing arrangements , they knew what they wanted to hear and pulled it out of some of the greatest guitarist in the business . These leads always sound fresh , tight to the core , and recognizable immediately . Steely Dan raised the bar .

Always felt it was great music for an East Coast winter day. It has the attitude if the East with the Coolness of the West on a foundation from the South.

Tim, honestly, I think you're the greatest session guitar player of all time. What a great video here. Best bassist, Carol Kaye.
@DanielC__Сағат бұрын
Thanks for playing these. Those are some BRILIANTLY constructed solos. Some are more complicated but even the least complicated ones meld perfectly to the song. Becker and Fagen always seemed to let their guitarists comprise the solos and it sure as heck worked for them. They were micro managers of course but still let the musicians develop awesome accompaniment. Not just great song writers but great producers.

Your Top 10 Guitar Solos for any decades, years, or genres would probably be a pretty popular topic. My favorite: Reelin' in the Years, a timeless classic. Perfection 😎
@annubisbones3 сағат бұрын
They are all great. Maybe because it’s one of the few (if not the only) solo to open a song, plus the notes choices and great playing of Larry Carlton, I pick “Don’t Take Me Alive”. Such a great song! Maybe it’s a tie with “Kid Charlemagne”. 😎
@KereBuchanan2 сағат бұрын
So fantastic Tim. I had a Steely Dan group in Australia for 15 years called the Bodacious Cowboys. Sure would've loved to have had you come play some gigs! Love your work man, Kere.

I second getting Denny Dias on the show. What a unique voice. So glad he’s on the list. On an extended out version of King Of The World after his his final solo, you can hear Becker or Fagin cursing with delight at what they just heard

I like Rick Derringer's slide solo at 3:00 in Show Biz Kids. Considering he's the main riff also and creating fills throughout with some of the best tone ever that's top 5 for me.

Nerd question. I'm curious what amps (& pedals) you used to play these solos? You are awesome Mr. Pierce!!! (I'll do some research in the gear section of the Master Class to see if I can find some clues).
@themayor32633 сағат бұрын
Not being a wise guy but I would prefer top 10 Tim Pierce solo's. Is this possible Tim?? I just love your playing since I grew up listening to you Luke and Reggie Young
@michaelhayes27942 сағат бұрын
Tim I noticed you could play along with most of those guitar greats ,but not Danny Diaz, talk about improvision in the moment. Did he also do the solo on Aja ?

I am not a musician so maybe I dont know how to properly explain the fact that I listen to Kid Charlemagne only because of the guitar solos. I dont really like the song as a whole (vocals, melody, rithm...) but I LOVE the guitar solos in it, they are the reason why I even listen to that particular song.
@ChrisM5415 минут бұрын
This goes to show just how COMPLETELY subjective this whole "10 Of The GREATEST Solos In Of ALL TIME" business is ;)
