In Ike’s defense, during the gamecube and Wii era, I didn’t know much about fire emblem and what the series was about. My first fire emblem game was Awakening and my interest came from seeing the gameplay on the eshop. I would have totally played PoR and RD if I had known what the Fire Emblem series was about because I love RPGs! 😍

PoR was released 6 months before the Wii came out and it wasn't marketed very well either. It's a definite sleeper hit, but that's Nintendo and Intelligent Systems fault. RD, however, had a different set of problems. Even never told people Ike was playable in that game until after it was released and Intelligent Systems not expanding on their products nearly got Three Houses to low sell if it wasn't for the final trailer.

Yeah that was great. It's always nice to see people try a new game series thanks to Smash. Which always makes it silly to see people hate it when more recent characters are added to Smash to help promote a game. Especially when you have stories like this. Seriously Xenoblade 2 got a huge boom in sales after Pyra and Mythra got added. Of course people want to play their game to know who they are. I mean I do get it. It's because people have been asking for much older characters for so long that it feels like a slap in the face to them when a new character from a fairly recent game gets in before their picks. But at the same time it's kind of unfair that newer characters can't be given a fair shot.

Hot Take: I actually think The Binding Blade not being localized is WORSE than Mother 3 not being localized. Roy is 1 of the top dogs of Fire Emblem, even getting a special cutscene in FEH when you was able to summon him. Heck; I'd even say he's worthy of getting a full-blown remake because of how popular he is. Not that I'm saying Mother 3 shouldn't be localized, it absolutely should be, but to me Roy's game is even more tragic.

“I know I’d like to give Roy’s adventure a shot” Man…FE6 is a pain for new players in particular. The low hit rates, bosses with insane throne bonuses, and the fact that around 80% of your army (including Roy) sucks buffalo cock all make it really hard to stay engaged, especially compared to most other games in the series. And I think that’s why this wasn’t the first FE game released worldwide. They felt it would be too alienating to newer players, and I honestly think they were right. FE7 is a much better gateway into the series and was a great choice for a first international release.

the Reason for fate's sloppy story, is because the writers where trying to achieve too much with not enough time. Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Nintendo knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.

That is really the beauty of SSB, even characters that don't have much in the way of sales are able to get in. Even though I think she's not going to be the last DLC fighter, I'm not giving up hope on Shantae to be a fighter in SSBU until the bitter end. I believe that is how people would feel about characters from franchises that don't do that much in the way of sales. Sure SSB is a cash grab, but it is more than that. It's meant to celebrate the games that characters come from and give gamers the incentive to branch out. I mean, if it wasn't for Bayonetta's inclusion in SSB 4, I may have never tried Bayonetta 2 and discovered just how much I love hack and slash games. That's really why I hate the SSB community. Most of the people are either trying to undermine someone else's character's chances, or just acting like toxic idiot brats when their character does not get in. It's the kind of community that a franchise as beautiful as SSB does not deserve.

Secondly, she's not my waifu because I don't want to date her. The only waifus I have are Cynthia and Leone from Akame ga Kill. Thirdly, if I gave up hope that easily, I would've died years ago from suicide. In other words, I reiterate that I won't give up hope for her to be the last one until the bitter end. However, she doesn't have near as big a chance as she did before the mii costume, though she still has a chance. She is as far as I know the only mii fighter outfit to get a theme song attached to it after all, something Sans didn't even get. Other people have already tried to convince me to give up and provided a lot more than one stupid reason, but I still haven't given up hope. So go bother someone else with your toxicity because I don't want it.

Tbh, I don't think sales is an accurate depiction of how "popular" a character is. Ike is actually the most liked/popular character among 595 other playable characters (Roy also.) Not to mention, Japanese only characters like Roy/Marth/Lucas shouldn't have sales figures even considered, because most English fans emulate their games.

Its funny, I don’t think of Ike as an obscure character because I was big into fire Emblem already when his games came out (actually literally got into fire Emblem because of Marth being my best character in melee and buying the first fire Emblem game I saw) so I got them both day 1 and are literally my second favorite games of all time. I’ve been maining Ike in smash since brawl because of that so when he was number 3 I was kinda shook lol. But understandable because apparently Radiant dawn was a gamestop pre order exclusive.

Exactly. Take the FE characters mentioned. Roy and Marth largely suffer from being japan exclusive, Roy especially with only one game under his belt, but even Ike due to his two games just being when the series was less popular. But among people who know Fire Emblem well, Marth especially is an absolute legend. Not to mention his ranking didn't include mobile games. While Fire Emblem Heroes makes a ton of money, surely some research could have had what was spent on banners featuring alts of the characters. Another example, Pyra and Mythra. Long before their inclusion in Smash Ultimate, I still knew who they were despite not buying or ever even playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

As a big fan of Fire Emblem myself, let me say, there is even 1 or 2 titles even worst in total copys tha Binding Blade (none of them are in smash, but just for fun). Fire Emblem 4 Genealogy of the Holy War sell around 300k copys, and Fire Emblem 5 Thracia 776, around 150k. Fire emblem always was a rollercoaster. It was Fire Emblem 13 Awakening (Robin, Lucina and Chrom's game) who boosts the saga. Fire Emblem Three Houses, for those who are curious, it's Fire Emblem 16 actually. If someone want to try the saga the more common recommendations are: Fire Emblem 7 (Or just "Fire Emblem"). The first FE title out of Japan. The protagonists are Lyn, Hector and Roy's dad, Eliwood. Or Fire emblem 13 Awakening. Good history, cool characters, casual mode (Turn the permadeath of the units OFF) etc

What's worse about Thracia 776 is i think the game was released in the year 2000 for the SNES, like, what?! The N64 was nearly on it's way out and the SNES was long dead, it's like if a first party exclusive game for PS3 came out today. I also recommend Three Houses, it introduced me to Fire Emblem and it's the only FE Game i've played excluding Shadow Dragon and the Blade Of Light on Switch, really good game.

Why are you counting "Shadow Dragon" for DS, "New Mystery of the Emblem," and "Echoes: Shadows of Valentia" as numbered titles when they're just remakes of older games? (The original "Mystery of the Emblem" gets a pass, since only half of it is a remake.)

The problem is that it is treated like Pokémon in that the latest game gets a new fighter. But everyone liked ike so they brought him back for 4 and had one new and one clone character for 4. They overstepped with Corrin but Three Houses is so big for the series it should have a character in smash although the timing was a little eh.

Awakening, Fates, and Three Houses aren’t unpopular. If Sakurai had to get rid of the less popular characters, and ignored smash fans who grew up with their movesets, Marth, Roy, and Ike would be gone long before Robin, Corrin, and Byleth would be.

@@splaturials9156 The thing about Splatoon is 1. The game is much younger than Fire Emblem. 30 years and 4 smash games vs Splatoon that has been in 2 (if you count the mii costumes) 2. The thing about Fire Emblem vs the majority of every other Nintendo series is that every game has a completely new cast a characters and world. Like Three Houses isn’t related story wise to any other game. Unlike a game like Splatoon which will have Inklings in every game, just having like Marth when he is only in 2 games and 2 remakes of a series with 16 games wouldn’t be good representation. The thing about Fire Emblem is that it doesn’t get more reps then for instance Matroid or Kirby because it is more popular, its that every Kirby and Meteoid game have Kirby and Samus in them but most Fire Emblem games have completely different characters.

I don't think that summing up the total sales gives a good information about the obscurity of a character, since one is obscure enough, the people buying their their games are probably the same, which means you're counting the same people and multiplying them for the number of the games in which the character appear. I think that an average or just the count of the highest selling game is more indicative.
