The Heart Attack Grill might be one of the darkest stories in restaurant history. But it's pandering to utter excess certainly shows that for some people, gluttony can truly be their ultimate flaw.

The Chuck E Cheese restaurant I once went to was a really wholesome highlight. I just had my open heart surgery when I was seven years old, so I spent months with basically “no fun allowed” for the sake of my own safety, and for obvious reasons. However, I decided that when I finally recover, my family and I host an “All Better Party” at a Chuck E Cheese restaurant! Long story short, my recovery went very well and we had a successful party at Chuck E Cheese! In fact, we even went back for another party for my eighth birthday! It really is heartbreaking to see pretty much my entire childhood crumble away, whether it’s bankruptcy or being “exposed” to the “newsworthy gossips” about important things in my childhood like Disney! (That probably explains why we Disney fans don’t like being told to “Grow Up “)

Yeah, you know it's bad when even they refuse to listen to Gordon Ramsey and let him help the place. The worse part about that episode of Kitchen Nightmares is the couple who run the restaurant want the episode to not be about Ramsey helping them improve like every other episode, but rather, to use him and the episode to prove that their food is great and that all the negative responses were wrong all along. Obviously, their plan backfired.

I have my doubts about the reasons why restaurants like Hooters doesn't have the same appeal as before; firstly, I think that the reason why someone wouldn't be interested anymore in going to a restaurant to see girls in somewhat revealing clothing is because of the internet, where you have complete access to adult content; also, I doubt most influencers actually make a good change on body positivity, I think is quite the opposite since lots of people are full operations and can just edit their photos, giving a distorted version of reality.
@realwiggles
@realwiggles Жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure porn has nothing to do with why this generation isn’t going to hooters. Internet porn, or at the very least, relatively easy access to porn, has existed the entire time Hooters has been around, and it’s not like strip clubs are hurting for patrons. Also, i can’t say I agree with your second point as I don’t think it has anything to do with body positivity, either. (I don’t understand the point you’re making anyway, not sure why you believe increased body positivity in society has as much, or anything really, to do with influencers as you claim. It’s pretty much just been a general shift in what many people view as being a desirable body type from the stick-thin, curveless skelton of the 90s towards curvier physiques. I’d argue that hip-hop’s increasing popularity has more to do with it than anything lol) As a dude in his mid-20s, I just don’t see the appeal in visiting a restaurant that puts its workers on display like their zoo animals or something. I don’t want to sit in a room full of a bunch of middle-aged men while knowing that these dudes my dads age are being creepy towards girls my age or younger. It just seems like a weird an uncomfortable atmosphere and I can’t understand why anyone would willing subject themselves to that situation instead of just going to an actual strip club. I’m not visiting a hooters with my family, I’m definitely not taking a date or my SO to one, and if I’m with a few of my guy friends and we’re in the mood to hangout around a dozen beautiful women for an hour or two than we’re going to a strip club instead.

The type of influencers you're thinking of, no not really. But there is a constant shift and ebb and flow of "beauty" throughout time. There was a time where being super model thin and busty was considered undesirable. And big, hefty, very curvy girls were the hot thing. Why? Because that meant she had a family that had enough money to feed her OR she was successful enough [cough] to be well fed. Thus, she was more likely to survive pregnancy and birthing children. Which made her desirable. Now those same sizes are seen as gross - but are working their way back to desirable. [Some sizes might be a medical issue but that's not for the lay person to judge, that takes a professional]. Vikings liked red haired women, and tall women. Tall women are juuuuuuust making their way back into the "Oooh that's hot" zone and even still get the issue of "A woman over 6foot is a man" or other insulting commentary. Hecc in the 80s, hairy women were HOT - then around the 90s/00s having hair anywhere but your head was seen as undesirable. And now a variety of levels of hair are seen as sexy again. There ARE plenty of influencers making strides in body positivity - hecc that huge leak of celeb's nudes [I think almost exclusively female celebs] actually helped a lot too [granted it was still disgusting and if they ever caught the jerks I hope they got a lot of time] - I remember reading one female celeb said the outpouring of LOVE from female fans going "omg your skin ISN'T perfect JUST LIKE MINE" and "oh you do have stretch marks, and tummy fat, JUST LIKE ME" etc etc etc - made her say that while screw the people who violated her privacy - she was so happy that her body [which she also felt terrible about] made so many women feel BEAUTIFUL because they realized "Hey if X celeb is a catch of a woman, and I have all those same issues, I'm a catch too!". And I think to be able to say "Despite being self-conscious about my body, my REAL body bein able to be seen made someone else realize they're beautiful too, makes me appreciate my imperfections a little bit more" is really the kind of body positivity we all need.

As a young male (20), this could be true. If I want to look at women, why not look it up, or if you want to hang out with someone while looking at women, you might as well go to a certain type of club instead, tho I have no idea how many of these are around either, maybe less than hooters. Still, if I could, a club would be the first choose over hooters. The thing is however, while I doubt many other young men dislike looking at pretty women, but rather it’s doing it while eating. It would just be very awkward for some people.

I'd want one that's sort of like a middle ground. From the sounds of it, the point of Karen's Diner is to get insulted and so the staff are actually supposed to do it. I'd rather have something where it's more totally neutral. If they feel like being nice to you, they can and that's totally fine. But if you're being an ass, they're totally allowed to call you on it. I'd really like that for every place I go to. The whole forced good mood customer service people have is genuinely creepy and unsettling to me and I always feel uncomfortable when staff are nice to me because I can't tell if they actually mean it or if they're being forced to lie about their emotions. I'd really just love if they could be honest either way.

The origin of the owner feels like something straight out of psychology villain; apparently he was a professional nutritionist before this. To literally feed gluttonous habit too those far gone and be a cautionary tale for the outside looking in. If you feel disgusted at this restaurant, then it's doing it's job efficiently.

There's actually a message in this whole thing - the guy that founded it is rather interesting though it's hard to find easy background on him. But, he will straight up tell you that his food will kill you, stop eating the food, and if you keep this up you will die. Seriously. They serve it because people come and do it, including giving morbidly obese free food because it's what is demanded. It's an interesting microcosm since often food itself is blamed for someone's weight issues (or medical issues that simply do not work that way) instead of a person being on top of what they are eating. This place goes to show that people will willing continuously try to kill themselves no matter what you tell them.

My dad and sister had gone to a Heart Attack Grill in Vegas. I can't remember if they actually ate there, but I didn't know they showed the customers' cremated remains to the customers! That's disgusting! On a lighter note, the Hooters hotel here in Vegas is still standing, rebranded to OYO. :)

"I still remember accidentally stumbling into hooters as a kid." Some off the clock neurologist is mentally unpacking that statement. Chuck-e-cheese also had an issue with the reusing old pizza conspiracy (Which turned out to be false) but that hurt the restaurant a lot. The people behind the franchise even made a, horrendously bad, statement that didn't do anything. They also had a controversy with them making a delivery service called pascwaly's (I don't have a clue how to spell it sorry) pizza and wings which was made to trick people into buying chuck-e-cheese. I honestly feel really bad for this restaurant, it has a lot of things I love all in one package. Arcade machines, employees in character outfits, the constant feel of party and those animatronics were just amazing. The only part I didn't like was the food, I never really liked greasy food like that anyway.

He's not - he straight up knows that this food kills people but people want it so he's willing to make bank off of it. No. Actually I want to wake up one morning and open the door and have no one ever come in again, because maybe the world would have learned the truth. I can always go find another industry. I know how to sell things if I need to. … I don’t need to do this. But it is pathetic, in my opinion, that major corporate fast food chains will not tell the truth. I don't know if the owner of the Heart Attack Grill, still has this policy, but he long ago said that the purpose of the restaurant was meant to be satirical, in the sense that he wants to show the dangers (in some case lethal) of eating Garbage Food. And he said that the day that people stop coming to his restaurant to eat, he will shut it down... Chik Fil A was in the news again recently, apparently they were trying to supplement their worker shortage by hiring “volunteers” in exchange for free food. So basically forcing people to work all the responsibilities of a full time employee, in exchange for a chicken sandwich. I’ll have to look into it, but a lot of people were pointing out that this is supposedly illegal (which would make sense since they are doing the exact same job as an employee for no pay) But either way it comes off as really scummy that instead of just hiring these “volunteers” they’re being used to undercut actual employees. I can see this easily turning into a way discourage unionizing or negotiating for better wages. “Don’t like it here, well there are plants of ‘volunteers’ waiting to take your job”

I later found out that it wasn't just my local Ryan's that shut down, but a couple of Ryan's restaurants were shut down as well. I remember when my family had taken a trip and a Ryan's there had also been shut down, indicating that it was a stateside thing and not something that just happened locally. The restaurant remained standing for a couple of years after it was shut down before it was finally demolished. It seems odd that places that get shut down remain standing for a long time before they either are demolished or are converted into something else. I don't know how long exactly that restaurant stayed standing between closing and demolition, but it was a couple of years.

Here in Philippines there's one controversy happened in Jollibee, where a customer received a fried towel on their Chicken bucket meal. The story goes an employee misplaced his or her wiping towel and it fell on the deep frier and that deep fried towel is good enough to be mistaken as a fried chicken and somehow got served.

Ah, Heart-Attack Grill. I remember being a kid watching stuff like Food Network and Travel Channel, and seeing that place featured all the time when a show talked about insane restaurants. It's still open? Such is the way of American business. Also... everytime someone talks about Hooters I can only think of that one time when I was real little and my dad brought me with him to Hooters without telling my mom 😅... well that and the one King Of The Hill episode lol.

I feel like to an extent, Dave and Buster's could also be a huge competitor for Chuck E. Chuck E. Cheese has definitely played a big part of my childhood since I was indeed a kid having a birthday party there once. When I visited there in my teen years for another friend's birthday party, I absolutely felt heartbroken by the change. There was just something about the modern Chuck E. Cheese that didn't have the same charm, color, or even passion behind it. My childhood has ball pits, little rides, and arcades! Then it just became arcades. Sometimes, arcades can be a good selling point, but for Chuck's case, it was a large step down.

In regards to Hooters, when I see someone, male, female or otherwise, wearing a crop top with dolphin shorts, I don't see it as an opportunity to reduce them to objects. I see it as people expressing themselves in such a liberating way and being confident with it. In fact, it always makes me sad when women (the main targets) are not respected as humans, whether or not they wear revealing clothing. Also, as a huge fan of the 80's, I can say that crop tops and dolphin shorts were loved by all genders, but it's understandable that not everyone has the same interests and wants to see change that better suits the general census. In regards to Chuck E. Cheese's, I can understand how Chuck is a bad name in Australia; it's because it's slang for vomiting, so when the chain moved to the country, Chucky was renamed to Charlie.
@MsDudette21
@MsDudette21 Жыл бұрын
many women dress like that when the weather is nice.but with hooters, cuz its the whole point, it's no surprise that they are harassed by customers as they are all concentrated in said restaurants. i dress similarly and it does feel good and confident. and I had never knew about chuck meaning vomiting in Australia. that's an interesting tidbit

With Hooters, I don't think the outfits themselves are an issue. It's the fact that the restaraunt pretty much marketed itself as a place to stare at and objectify women. People can be wearing potato sacks and some gross people will still objectify them. The skimpy clothing just makes it easier. Also, choosing to dress in little clothing is fine, but it's creepy when the company uniform forces employees to dress like that. Most women who took the job were finally fine with and comfortable with the uniforms, though, unless they were just completely desperate and couldn't find work anywhere else. I'm a dude and if my job let me wear booty shorts every day I would lol.

Jeez, the Heart Attack Grill doesn't really hide any of its controversies, judging by the _name_ alone. And from what I'm seeing in the footage, the waitresses are dressed in skimpy nurse outfits, showing cleavage quite clearly. And they spank naughty customers too? I guess the restaurant runs not only on being as unhealthy as possible, but ALSO on sex appeal and fetishes, perhaps even more blatantly than Hooters.

During the pandemic, I decided to order Chuck E. Cheese because I was passing by one. It had these hand-made posters offering a lot of food for cheap. I was suspicious of it but I said screw it. Called and they sounded desperate. They sound gleeful that I wanted to order some pizza and tried to get me to buy more. I went to pick up and saw stacks of pizza boxes and small toys for sale.
