Depends on the systems on board. If it had the latest shields, warp core, and other tech, the Borg would definitely assimilate. They care about advanced technology, not size... Assimilation is the only real way the Borg advance themselves. So any ship with technology more advanced than theirs is assimilated... ;)

The only reason they got rid of the first defiant was because they written themselves into a corner they couldn't get out off and seen how much Sisko was becoming a Mary Sue (like Burnham who would come later) they had to knock him down a few pegs(what with him getting away with murder and breaking rules that would have gotten Kirk court marshalled). For me the worse ships in trek are Defiant, discovery, and Voy. In the end DS9 should have had a Miranda class for the hero ship as it could easily be refitted or more quickly made with the same advance technology as seen on the Defiant but quickly reproduced. On a side note The Lacota(sp) was vastly superior to the Defiant after some heavy refitting and could have(and should have) Destroyed the defiant but was saved by plot armor. Regarding the Oberth class. Everyone gets it wrong. The large canoe underneath it is not the Engineering Hull. The Oberth Class is really just the upper half of what we see. It’s a general Utility ship. The Canoe thing is the mission pod that the Grissom was carrying. A Planetary Survey Sensor platform. Think of it as the Big Saucer on top of an AWACS plane. While it did have decks and spaces, and could be accessed via the pylons. It wasn’t routinely crewed except for service and maintenance. The Warp Core and Engineering spaces were in the back half of the square section behind the saucer. Much like they were in the Reliant.
@valor1omega3 жыл бұрын
It always reminded me of more crammed bulky and small Miranda inspired craft with the warp neccels up top.
@DrewLSsix3 жыл бұрын
@@valor1omega my going theory is the Oberth is actually a very old design, even by the time its first seen in in the films. The (rough) guidelines for ship registry numbers is something like the development number of the class + the construction sequence of the individual ship. Ie the TOS enterprise was of the 17th design and the second of her class. 1701, the 01 being the second ship as the first ship would have been 1700. Likely the USS Constitution NX/NCC-1700 Then theres the Reliant, NCC-1864 Suggests the design was next in line after the Constitution and the Reliant was the 65th ship of its type. The Grissom was NCC-638, I would accept that ships of different general types wouldn't fall into the same exact numbering scheme, like smaller ships get their own sequence of registrations while the larger cruisers get another, but a 3 digit registry still suggests an older design, especially when you might expect smaller tender type ships to out number the frontier fleet. Either way I would expect the Oberth class to date to sometime relatively soon after the founding of the Federation and be a roughly century old design by the time we see the first one on screen.
@andrewtaylor9403 жыл бұрын
@@valor1omega The Warp Nacelles on top and the very flush bottom lend very much to the theory that the core Oberth is basically an interplanetary equivalent of an ocean going tug, or barge hauler. With a somewhat broader mission profile. Probably a very old design but one produced for a very long time. With incremental upgrades and refits. The sort of ship that would be used for thousands of internal Federation missions. Rigged for science when needed. Hauling large items when needed etc. and never ever intended for combat.

@@valor1omega can you give me a well reasoned argument as to why it sucks?
@valor1omega3 жыл бұрын
@@KBhattacharya13 Hmm, I'll try but I will be honest I have never done well with putting my thoughts to text at times. The ship itself is too advanced It makes no sense to go from something so advanced to what we seen on the Enterprise which underwent a refit before Kirk got her. They used the movie refit of the Enterprise instead of her TOS look. It breaks too many canon events For example the Klingons don't get cloaking tech until much later when they worked with the romulans(ENT broke these as well). The Klingons look like something you would see in wh40k (aka orks). The Discovy has too many weak points in the "saucer Section" that if the enemy targeted those supports then you can kiss those rings goodbye. The million shuttles that the discovery shat out. The vast roller coaster in the ship. Burnham the mary sue. They ripped off SW and Ironman. The ship itself is ugly over all. I am sure someone else can do a better job than myself. Come to think of it Anti-trekker (don't let the name fool you he is a Trekkie), Birdoprey5, and Trekyards does a better job.

According to rumours, after reluctantly putting the U.S.S. Firebrand into commission, Starfleet Command acquired some agony chambers from the mirror universe for their engineers. In the mirror universe the U.S.S. Firebrand never got built, because the responsable engineers didn't survive childhood...

The Larson class USS Yamato was one of those single nacelle "beauties" you could add if you ever make a top 20 list. The borg can assimilate ships as well as people, and it probably explains the asymmetrical ship in the list. If you do a star wars list definitely put the B wing at the top. WHY have an atmospheric stabilizer wing jutting 40 feet out the bottom of an offset hull in space? Makes no sense. Good list, I totally agree with it!

You forgot the Enterprise D. That thing just looks stupid with its over sized saucer, bent warp pylons and the weird eye shaped (deflector?) at the front of the hull. As for the Discovery, I think it looks fine. As a fan of '70s sci-fi design, I like the angular style. I liked the Daedelus class because there are very few pre-TOS ships that really look pre-TOS era. It should be ugly/boxy/clunky to make the newer ships look sleeker. The NX--01 looks like a repainted TNG ship. The Ares class was also pre-TOS but looks too similar to the Constitution-class and the Constitution was supposed to be a huge step forward and revolutionary.
