Ok, I can explain why the Hockey sets look so weird. Apparently, the NHL didn’t want LEGO to use actual players for the sets due to some drama going on for copyrighting. The reason why they were wanting to use players was because their NBA and NFL lines of Mini-figures and sets did extremely well.

As a European (where the set was exclusive), the town/castle mashup doesn't look too strange. I've seen a similar street in real life, although it was a 16th century cathedral rather than a proper castle. The knights are just modern day guys, parading in costume It's certainly a unique set though

Yeah, it reminds me of a Medieval Fair. I live near a city with a decently large castle at the top of its largest neighboring hill, and there's always the yearly medieval fair in there, which makes this set make quite a bit more sense to me. Just a Town set where folks are having fun. Don't really get the Legoland Carnival posters on the castle, though...

Yeah, idk about other countries but here In the UK there's tons of older buildings, streets, phone boxes, churches and whatnot just scattered around our modern towns and cities. Here in the town I live in there's an entire few streets that just look like you're stepping into the 18th century, then you walk a bit away from them and there's a Mcdonalds.

Lol I was about to post this myself, it looks like a normal UK historic town to me, like York. You can walk past a castle, a seventeenth century black and white timber building, and a modern glass building in ten minutes in some places. They just kept building on top of the older parts of the towns and leaving some in the poor/posh districts so it's all mashed together here.

Yes it also reminds me of an 80's Doctor Who story called "The Awakening" it was set in present day while medieval pageantry was going on at the same time. Something to do with May Day festivities as I recall. As you say quite common in Europe.

For the Town Square: There are some Posters declaring this as Legoland Carneval, which is probably what this set is supposed to represent. You see, in central Europe we regularly had and still have "medival festivals" or other type of historic inspired events. I live in a town were a famous battle, the "Battle of the Nations", took place and every year this battle gets reinacted by actors as an annual event, with uniforms, sound effects and all. So with LEGO being a danish company and their main market being Europe at the time, this set made a whole lot of sense to put out.

Except it wasn't release in central Europe. However here in the Netherlands (and from my knowledge of the UK, the UK) it's not uncommon for cities to still have medieval structures standing in the middle of town. My own village has early medieval church and the 2 cities next to me have full on medieval city walls, houses and gates (and churches). So within the context of the places it's released in it makes quite a lot of sense.

Honestly I really like Legoland. It doesn’t have the same budget as Disney, but it has a little more passion and the rides are focused on being fun rather than being “immersive experiences”, and that’s what I like in a park. I get that it’s also corporate like Disney, but I have way more fun at Legoland.

I was five when I went to Legoland. I loved it. But unfortunately when I next visited, when I was 13, someone almost pushed me onto some railings and threatened to punch me. I waited eight years for that.

@@sabermations4765 While yes, Disney definitely is one of the most money-hungry companies in the world (which I hate, they should take a break, it's not like they're about to go bankrupt or somethin), I actually really like their theme parks a lot, mainly because of their awesome technology, meet n greets, and rides. I love watching KZbin videos of stuff there, but I will admit that I also love Legoland as well, and one thing I absolutely do prefer that they do over Disney is that they pull off a concept of a ride where you shoot at screens better. The Ninjago ride at least had breaks from the screens at times, and didn't have to make you pay 80 dollars for an add-on for the ride… unlike Web Slingers. Though I personally don't hate any amusement parks, I love to go to them for relaxing experiences :)

When I visited Legoland in the uk I was 5 and I have 4 memories: there was a log flume that I think I was too small to go on, I went on a dinosaur ride that's one of those rotating things where you make the carts go up and down (and I spent most of the ride trying to take the bricks off so I could take the giant Lego home), 90% of the day was spent queuing, and I got a soft toy flail that was later confiscated as I kept hitting my friend on the head/in the face. We haven't been since bc apparently it was really expensive and in this case it wasn't the best value for money, especially compared to flaming land or Alton towers, but I enjoyed it at the time

I have a different SpongeBob set too. Someone just gave me a bucket of Legos and I found pieces but I have Mrs. Puff, SpongeBob, a chum bucket sign, a boating school sign, and a start sign in the font of the show. I think it's two different sets but idk. SpongeBob is almost winking with his tongue out to the side for anyone who wants to know.

There don't seem to be too many sets based on video games yet to begin with, other than the recent Mario Lego sets (and no, the Lego Star Wars video games don't count, lol). If you really wanted a video game based Lego creation, you might have better luck MOCing one up for yourself

I believe the idea of the castle set is to be set in an old town in either the Netherlands or Britain which would have existed for many centuries, having both a castle and more modern buildings because it’s been there a long time And the actual castle itself is a tourist attraction now, with people who dress up like knights

Legoland is honestly really cool in person. Drove down there with my family from Stockholm back when I was 6, and aside from our cars pretty much non-existent air conditioning during the rather long drive which just so happened to be in the middle of summer it was a fun trip

While I haven't been to Legoland, I did pass through the Lego store at Dreamworld while my dad and I were on vacation in Queensland the week before last. It was certainly interesting, seeing all the different models, being fully aware how it must've taken weeks, if not months for some of them to be finished. It certainly provided colour to our day, considering the park was mostly empty that day to the point it was rather depressing, not helped by the fact more than half the park was shut down and the staff hadn't cleaned up the massive number of spider webs

#6 isn't weird at all. Especially considering where it was released. Loads of cities in Europe have medieval castles in major cities, since those cities have been around a long while. This looks just like somewhere like Cardiff or Edinburgh.

We've also come a very LONG ways in developing toys since then, too. Just look at Transformers, for example, in which the older toys had much more simplified transformations and often didn't look that much like the characters in the show they were supposed to represent. Or even look at Lego as a brand themselves, with how many new pieces that have been introduced in the many years; to wit: just for fun, look at the complexity of the recent Titanic set they created (which has over 9000 pieces at that!), or for that matter, just compare the very first Millennium Falcon set Lego ever released in stores with the most recent Ultimate Collectors Series version of the same iconic ship, and you'll see that the difference is night and day! ............Long story short, the old Fabuland sets are very, VERY much so a product of a simpler time

About the Space set: Lego have always promoted imagination and creativity, I suppose this set is also in line with that effort, it can be whatever you want it to be. The same goes for the Town set with the castle, although as others have pointed out too, this is not a rare setup in Europe.

Brit here - it has to be a Lego city set which is set in the present. There are loads of towns and cities in the UK that are like this. It makes sense that one of the only places it was sold was the UK because to us, it’s completely normal
