I was going to make this answer much darker but I didn't want to overdo the joke.

Damn you should have more subscribers However I agree with the other comment, the punchline was very predictable.

Edit: Pinned So I don't have to re-type the explanation. The punchline was meant to be obvious. I wanted to structure the joke as some type of formal explanation you'd find in lecture/class and not some "Aha, I bet you didn't see that coming" type of thing. In a lecture/class, you're meant to be able to follow the logic (at least in STEM) and should have some idea of what the answer is. Which is sort of what I was trying to go far (albeit, still poorly). That's also why I tried to keep the video short, so you wouldn't get disappointed by the ending.

@@jasonmayo I see, that makes sense. It was a good video and idea/format anyways, which is why I mentioned you should have more subscribers! Not meaning to denigrate your work at all, It's just feedback I thought if mentioned could help you in the future, especially considering many people might have felt the same way. Not mentioning it would've been a disservice to you (and to myself by extension), because I feel your budding channel and has a lot of potential, and I love this style of humor and format. I'm sure you'll better the art (perhaps being more subtle etc.) with experience as you make more videos. Perhaps we'll see you hit the million subscriber milestone soon!

Yeah, I understand the criticism. I just preferred this because I wanted to put emphasis on the poor logic rather than the punchline. It's only there to make the video complete. Sorry if it looked like I was singling you out or something, I just wanted to explain my thought process.

This is funny and all, but you kind of misunderstood a vital part of the trolley problem. The problem doesn't involve you having to pull the lever to kill five people or pull the lever to kill one. It's pulled the lever and kill one or do nothing and let the trolley run over five people. It's important to the problem that if you choose to pull the lever, the trolley runs over one person, because most people would naturally feel less guilty letting one person die rather than five, assuming they have no prior connection to any of the people, so the problem involves the outcome were five people die means that you do nothing, and so You can't really be criticize for letting those five people die because you simply refuse to get involved. On the other hand, you could be considered responsible for the one person's death because you actually had to pull the lever in that outcome.

If you're referring to my 2 second explanation of the trolley problem, then I agree. The part where I say "taking more than one life" can be misleading because some people would argue that letting nature take its course isn't the same as taking lives. But it fits the theme of the video since it foreshadows the conclusion. If you're referring to the end where I said to flick the lever such that it's headed towards the side with more people, that was a deliberate choice of words. In the original trolley problem, you wouldn't need to flick the lever to hit the track with the most people, so according to my wording, "flicking" the lever would mean not flicking. But by wording it this way, it gives the sense that we're deliberately choosing to hit the people rather than let nature run its course. And of course, the lever flicking "animation" was just there to illustrate my choice of words; you wouldn't actually need to flick it.

You are ignoring the fact that 6 people will consume more energy in their lives if they live longer. So you actually slowed down entropy by taking those 6 lives.
@jasonmayo
@jasonmayo Жыл бұрын
I mean obviously, yes but you're ignoring the point of the joke. Here, the universe is personified. Entropy isn't meant to be taken literally; it's meant to be seen as a tool/means the universe can use to achieve its goal. The fact that I did ignore was the fact that elements contained in the set of things in the universe don't have to have the same goal as the universe. Or, while the collective goal of the universe is death, some parts of the universe might try to survive. Like how there can only be one elected President in the United States (the goal) but each individual can vote for different people (different goals). So yes, we slow down entropy. But entropy isn't the concern here, we're concerned about the goals of the individual, which were erroneously stated to align with the universe's goal of death.

actually, by saving the most amount of lives, you're speeding up the process of inevitable death. since people living do more amounts of chemical reactions than when they die.

Just because there is a law about an increase in entropy doesn't mean it's a "goal". It just happens and we don't have to do anything about it.

you could just derail the trolley by flicking the lever when the first bogie passed so the second one goes the other way and if the tracks are far away enough from each other the trolley would get stuck and fall over 👍

Set the point blades (turnouts) so that the truck derails before reaching anybody, accelerating the atrophy of the truck rather than that of the people. Alternatively, switching the point between the first and second bogie is sure to wreck it
