I wish the backbone was more comfortable but I use it sparingly on the go. It fits in my back pocket, I can use most mobile games, emulators, and remote play with it. Plus I have a Galaxy Z-Fold which make it even better in terms of screen size. The Portal is nice but its really more of an At Home device. I wanted something I could use anywhere.

Same here I use emulators like ppsspp, lemon, dolphin, cod etc it works wonders, but It’s actually the complete opposite for me regarding the comfortability, don’t know if it’s just me but the BB fits my hands perfectly, honestly couldn’t have asked for any better as far as the size.

@xonlytyrek3601 it's really only uncomfortable when I play games like Spiderman 2 using Remote Play. So many buttons and combinations to push. Then some minor pain with Call of Duty but I've somewhat adapted over time.

I use this more or less as a Steam Deck alternative. With Backbone Plus, it's so easy to just jump in and play. The wife hogs the TV at night so I just keep this by the couch and play when she's watching TV and it's freaking awesome. Amazing that Sony doesn't invest more in THIS rather than the Portal, imo.

hey, I’m niall from the video. my data plan costs me around £22 a month and I get 30gb of data with that. been using the backbone pretty consistently for a few months now and never really even come close to being out of data, but I’m very lucky to have gotten what I reckons a pretty good deal.

Nah it wont unfortunately but there are similar devices (that do almost all the same stuff) that will fit over an iPad Mini, like the Gamevice, though I’m not sure if that’ll work on PS Remote Play.

This is assuming you have a phone strong enough to even boot up the remote play in the first place. Which some people, like myself, don't. It looks and probably is great but my phone just won't run it.

And same goes for the portal, you need to own a ps5. With the phone you can use cloud gaming, that doesn't require a strong phone, just a good internet connection for minimal latency.

not PS5 games or anything like Remote Play or xCloud, but there’s stuff like Limbo or the GTA Vice City/San Andreas/4 mobile ports downloadable on the App Store and have controller support.

And the PS Portal is unusable if you don't own a PS. So it is a very good alternative, and you're free to play from any cloud gaming service, not just PS streaming.

mine doesn’t quite fit with my case which is pretty slim but apparently the new USB-C models for iPhone 15 and android are more likely to fit with a case. I can’t say that with certainty though because I’ve not used it.

Problem with Xbox version is based off switch tech where remotes would attach to mobile device and need game pass or game pass ultimate and dual band Wi-Fi and have console on I saw when tried use this aspect. As for portal reminds me things they tried in pass and wasn’t success question now it my only work with ps5 games as far I know.

Yeah, my difference with that is you’re actually getting a reasonable service with PS+ that exists as an addition to the console (the game library specifically, less-so the online play) whereas the Backbone app feels like it’s taking away key selling points and features if you don’t pay even after purchasing the product. It’s just a weird line I have with products having subscription fees but I guess it’s just the direction the world is moving in now so I should just get over it ahaha

Stop showing this as it's perfect it isn't, I freind acutal got the 200$ one and it's better than your average remote play as it actually works well even at 7-10mbps up and down, my phone however just sucked with that speed. That controller is extremely horrible for most new titles if you use the shoulder and trigger buttons alot (same issue with my switch, but not to this extent as the travel is far lesser which feels more like a tactile button) Also most phones don't come with Oled screen, andriod here is better as most andriod now are amoled same for iPhone which many until recently aren't even FHD (ironically your using an iphone in which you can get 4-6 of those useless ps portals). By far the ps portal has THE BEST controller and i think sony is experimenting with it for their next handheld. Ps portal is basically a dualsense with the TouchPad replaced with a tablet. Honestly I will never buy a ps portal as there are better alternatives, such as a PSvita (or 2ds/3ds line up) and a nintedo switch/steam deck equivalent (steam deck i don't recommend yet as it's still in the early days maybe in a year or two it might get better as even now the steam deck is a mess and needs to be simplified more). Back, to point these devices like the Vita can do remote play (even the switch oled but you will need to mod your switch physically) as well as native gameplay and emulation. Even my razer kishi is just collecting dust as phones still just cannot replace the feel of a console. For anyone planning to buy the backbone or anything equivalent don't, first try it atleast before you get it. 100$ is overpriced when you compared it to full sized controllers that cost almost half.

think that’s mostly valid, (even tho the vast majority of mainstream phones definitely do have OLED screens now), everyone’s gonna have a different experience with the remote play signal, and phone speed, and comfort but I do wanna say that at no point in the video am I trynna show the Backbone as perfect, but instead, shine a light on it as a Portal alternative. Important to remember that my videos on this channel are opinion pieces and not trying to be objective, so anything I say is just my opinion. I genuinely believe the Backbone is an awesome bit of kit with great comfort and have had very few issues with remote play. If you haven’t had that experience, and prefer other alternatives, that’s cool too.
