HAPPY BIRTHDAY RON!!! Everybody stay safe in this heat! Its dangerous hot. Granny used to put a bowl of water in freezer and after it froze she would break it up,put a piece in cheesecloth, for each of us kids. She called it a Coolie. Sometimes she would freeze lemon water or lemonade, whatever she had. We didn't mind the heat. We were too busy having fun!

Fall /Harvest season is coming up before you know it! 1988 was the year I graduated high school! :) Plus my Father's Mother lived through THREE CENTURIES..She was born in 1899, lived through all of 1900s and she died in 2001 at the age of 101! She was very active until her mid 90s traveling to England from her Natchez Mississippi home.

In the 70's for the winter we made frames with perspex panes which sat in the window reveal. We put foam rubber inbetween the outer frame and the perspex frame to seal out drafts and cold. It made a big difference to the heat loss. It was an alternative to the double glazing we couldnt afford at the time. We stored the frames in the loft/attic in the summer months.

When I was young, living along the Mississippi River (with no air conditioning) we used to hose down the roof of the house at sunset, so it would cool down faster and you could sleep better, evaporative cooling. If you don't have air conditioning, give it a try.
