A haikyuu quote that strongly motivates me and puts my anxiety at ease is Tanaka's "well does the mediocre me have any time to waste looking down?" It often lifts my spirit up and humbles me in a healthy way. It reminds me to do not dwell on my failures that much because I still have a huge room to grow and that's where I should focus more. In the manga when hinata goes to Brazil , we can see in the wall in his room there's a banner and the words which are written in it is "he who climbs the ladder must begin at the bottom".. which also shows that these words hit him deeply and coz of this he's able to grow stronger ..

We can all debate about what Oikawa is and isn't made of, but Oikawa isn't Oikawa without his Pride. This is what appeals to me the most about his character and it clearly speaks for his strength because no matter how he thinks of himself vs others, he holds on to it and persists. It's just too wonderous for me.

One thing that comes to mind for me is the lesson you've talked about before (not in this video, but in the Izarizaki video) about Oikawa. About how people who feel ordinary can push through and become extraordinary, and that special people are not born that way, but become that way through their passion. Kiyoko said this to yachi when she was hesitating of joining the club. Haikyuu has a lot of character, I relate to all lot of them, but the one I relate the most is Yachi. I didn't have anything I was interested in when i was in high school, and I was always scared of trying new things cause I use to think that I would get bored of it, dislike it, or simply bother/disrespect the people playing/doing it. So when I saw yachi a girl like me who join the volleyball club (knowing nothing about volleyball) I was touched and inspired by it. It's okay to try new things!! Don't be scared of it!! You don't know if you're gonna like something until you try it.

Absolutely one of the underrated characters that furudate introduced us that is really bound to realism that in life we encounter different opportunities and life offers those to us on a whim as well and it will always up to us to take the first step after those ideas are introduced, but no matter what the results are after pursuing it, it will always be a valuable experience and if integrated, it can guide us to the path that we really want to take

Out of all the amazing quotes in Haikyuu, Kita's "I'm build upon the small things I do every day." have the greatest impact on me. It really changed my mentality on how I handle all the tasks and obstacles in life. I used to procrastinate or just give up on things because they seem too big of a task to handle, too ambitious and I was also too impatient to see results on things I put work in. The expectations I cast on myself turned into burdens. Somehow it was only when I heard those words that it clicked with me that it's all right to take things slow and easy - it just have to be consistant. Rather than trying to get somewhere fast I should concentrate on just moving in the direction of my goal, each and every day, even if it's just babysteps and sometimes even making two steps forward and one step back. It's still something. Continuity is key. Don't get all hung up on the results. Take it easy. If you stay consistant, you'll get there eventually. And I loved how much of Kita's mentality actually showed in Hinata in the small things he does every day - aside from training, he takes care of himself by eating well, sleeping well, yoga, meditation, even studying the language. And look what all those small things which he made his daily habits got him at the end. It's just brilliant. Haikyuu has so many important life lessons one can learn from. I especially loved the final arc. Seeing the many different paths all these different characters chose after graduating was so refreshing and so realistic and I wished I read Haikyuu many years before when I was still a high school student, because it would have helped me tremenduosly with choosing my on path and understanding what really matters in life. Man, I wished back then I'd understand life like Nishinoya did: Just because you're good at something and others might think it'd be a waste of potential, it actually doesn't mean you can't just do something else you have more fun with. Not everyone needs to have a fancy college degree and be a doctor but it's ok to work at a funeral home or even be in between jobs (well I mean, at least Hanamaki seemed to be happy with his life lol). Sports science, why didn't I think of that when I decided on what to study? If for nothing else, just read the final arc for its vast job choices lol. Seriously, all young folks out there should read Haikyuu for the important, realistic and multifaceted life lessons. I just love Haikyuu so much and on so many levels and I regret not having started it sooner. Funny how the reason I kept pushing it back was because I thought "oh but it's just volleyball. what can possibly be so exciting about VoLleybAll?" and now have ended up with screaming at every person I recommend Haikyuu to "IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT VOLLEYBALL". To be fair, I did see ppl saying just that back then and I just didn't took the advice serious lol (end of rant.)

"It's just about x" can be said about any plot in the world, it's a lazy way to discredit a concept or premise. Haikyuu suffers from poor understanding from it a lot.

@@calcelmoanayru5870 Yeah, but I'd say it's a bit of a different case with sport animes/manga (at least from my experience). People tend to only look into a sport series when they actually have somewhat of an interest in the sport that is portrayed there. And unfortunately Volleyball isn't as popular of a sport as let's say football or basketball - which isn't fair, I know. Because it's really such an enjoyable sport but I too was never interested in Volleyball and never watched a rael life volleyball match before Haikyuu. The only reason I watched it is because of all the good things I heard from ppl. It's just not as "mainstream" as some other shounen.

The one line that hit me hard is from the tsubakihara coach said during himekawa ceiling serve. "it's not others who won't forgive you when your mess up, its Yourself". This line resonates with me so well. After mistakes I did cause problem to others around, I always trap myself in a bad state of mind. Thinking about others reaction, feeling so down and wanted to just disappeared. While in reality, others can forgive rather easily compare to what on my mind. Trap in self hate and regret. That line reminded me that sometime it ok to make mistake and I, myself, has to be the one willing to forgive myself for the mistake I made. Break out of my griefing mindset and take a he next step either redemption or move forward.

I think if most people are like me, a lot of us went into Haikyuu expecting a sports anime with good animation and slice of life elements. But after watching it we left having an improved mindset towards life. Yamaguchi, Tsukishima, Oikawa, Kageyama, Hinata as well as pretty much everyone else lol, taught me all unique and important lessons. Sometimes if I'm feeling a bit down or just need some motivation I'll rewatch some episodes of Haikyuu or one of Aleczandxr's videos on the characters and I'll feel reinvigorated. This is definitely one of the videos I'll be rewatching in the future. Thanks for another one Aleczandxr :)

I see him as a coward but little did I know he came back wich gave me a sense of bravery. Manga spoilers: I was struggling with ideas of my future, of my career, wondering if I would be satisfied with where I ended up. Seeing after the nationals arc, when people grow up and pursue different paths in life, they still got back together to see Hinata. They still kept their connections. They still have their friends and their weekend events amidst busy studying our careers. They still have lives, and happiness. I will graduate, I will find a job, and it will be demanding. I will be challenged and stressed, but I want to still have me-time, and time for my social connections. It helped.

Honestly, Haikyuu has changed my life. It has that calm, serene atmosphere that makes me feel safe. It helped me through the worst times of my life to overcome my insecurities and anxiety, and still continiues to do so. I can relate to so many amazing characters furudate gifted us and learn from thier experience or to simply understand myself better. "Today you are defetead, but what will you become tomorrow?" "It's no fun if you don't try other options once you know they exist." "A challenge where after ending up on your hands and knees, you must see if you can stand up again? If you stay on your hands and knees, that proves that you are weak." "Even if we go for what's somewhat safe here, it'll mean we never changed." "You don't need a reason for emotions! if you're happy, you're happy!" I could share and talk about this topic so much more, it's that important for me. I suggest you check out run with the wind, in my humble opinion, it more mature than haikyuu, the problems the characters face, each so diffrenet and unique that you can relate with atleast a few of them and eventually love every one of them. The mangaka has a deep understanding of human psychology and portrays it in such a beautiful fashion, I ended up crying a few times. Even alec has a video on it so definitely check it out.

I recommend reading Kenrantaru Grande Scene, as it also gives me Haikyuu vibes. The manga's about ballet, but there's no fanservice or silly romance side plot (not that that's bad). The manga's art is very accurate when it comes to ballet, as the creator herself credited the ballerinas and ballet studio who helped her with the poses and dances. The main character, while different, also reminds me of Hinata a lot. When she improves, she takes in as much experience as she can from other people, even her rivals. She learns to take care of herself as well as not doing so was what led to some of her losses. "It's heartbreaking really, not only because standing on stage feels like a dream everytime to me, but also how fortunate I've been to be able to keep it a reality." (ch. 72)

I just finished Haikyuu not even a week ago, and this story is just so inspirational. The exceptional way in which Furudate weaved so many pieces of life advice and perspectives into so many characters and scenarios is truly remarkable. Never have I read a story that has given as much to its readers as this one. So many different pieces can be extracted from Haikyuu and be applied to ones life. Absolutely fantastic job at exploring some of those pieces AJ! Your thoughts on ‘Who Needs Memories’ especially got me to think so much about how that applies to my own life. Good work. Yes, I agree. I can't think of a single story, in any medium, that demonstrates growth in such a natural, true way. It's uplifting in the best possible way. The moment of Hinata's receive, his moment of calm in the midst of the hectic game... they make me tear up every single time. All the characters are great. It's a reminder that there are no enemies, no adversaries, only challengers that help us grow if we let them; if we allow ourselves to see it and to respond to them. YES!!! THIS!!! Haikyuu is _the story that I have been looking for my whole life._ I have watched all seasons repeatedly, more than 10 times each season (excluding the newest S4, only 4 times), and read the manga a few times, and somehow... somehow... I still find something new everytime. New lesson. New details. Both big and small. Or at the very least, I get reminded again. To the point that it makes no sense... how could something be so... continuously novel... so "immortal", and "timeless"? And the coolest thing is, _every single lesson/wisdom_ that is supposed to be about volleyball can be implemented in any aspect of life!!! So, automatically, Haikyuu is also one of my life compasses. My life guidebook. Haikyuu seems to always have a saying, a quote, or a scene for whatever happen in my life to help me through it. _Always._ I don't see life in a good light, especially in this era where everything looks like it's collapsing the planet, but Haikyuu is one of the very few things that makes me grateful to be born and live in this era. P.s. All the life lessons even made me think that Furudate Sensei is an old grandpa with too much wisdom to share. And got shocked when I first found out he/she's only in their 30s (and that Haikyuu is first published when they were still ±27)!!! Two of my impossible wish is #1, to find haikyuu sooner in life. Haikyuu found me in late 2017 and I just... wish I have read it so much earlier. From the first published chapter if possible. To better myself amd my life. And second, is the ability to remove or hide my entire memory about Haikyuu and experience it for the first time all over again whenever I want it. Haikyuu is definitely in TOP 3 of the best things that happened in my life. Probably even the 1st. Forever thankful to Haikyuu and to Furudate Sensei. I hope he/she knows that their story is one of the greatest things to ever exist. A creation so impactful that makes so many people's life a lot better. That there are people out there who loves and cherishes Haikyuu _this much_ . I always pray for Furudate sensei the best for everything, and try my best to support sensei. 🙏

Sachiro Hirugami’s arc is one that really hit home for me. I am swimmer all through college and at one point I was in Hirugami’s situation where I think everything will be over if I dont succeed in the sport. Swimming was not fun back in the day. My friends in college and Haikyuu saved me from that mindset, my last two years of swimming the most fun of my career Btw showing pokemon platinum as you started talking about nostalgia hits me in the throat. Haikyuu is so inspiring, it teached me more about life and passions than anything. I have always knew that i like to draw but as a child i wasn't good at it and i grew up knowing that i don't have an artistic talent and i was okay with that. I have never really done anything to learn how to draw because "it takes time, it requires commitment, it's too late etc." When i was watching s4 and i heard kita's speech about talent- it hit me. At age 22 i decided to finally let myself having drawing as my hobby. i have been drawing almost everyday for 6 months and i'm proud of how much progress i have made. Having a passion is great, committing to a passion is worth it and it's never too late.

Honestly. I constantly struggle to find the words to describe that this show isn't just about volleyball. Volleyball is simply an element. Something I took away from Haikyuu was Nekoma's simple banner, Connect. In my mind, the banner and the team as a whole fits it well but there's much more. While it can litterally mean to connect the ball there's a greater meaning to it when it comes to Nekoma. There's many different manifestations of "connections" in Haikyuu. While it can symbolize their defense and need to connect the ball, it's much greater than that. Connections, the need/desire to connect with somebody, how you connect with others, trying to connect with others even when you're different, how having connections helps you grow & etc. We see the theme of connection through & through in the series. But Nekoma & Nekomata take the cake. It starts with Ukai & Nekomata & their connection, their rivalry. When Nekomata moved away, Ukai had the desire to find him again. Takeda re-establishing that connection years down the road. Nekomata connecting Karasuno to joint training. The rivalry, the connections we see form in season with Nekoma & Karasuno. Noya & Yaku, Hinata & Kenma, Yamamoto & Tanaka at the beginning and later Kuroo & Tsukishima. Kuroo & Kenma meeting when they were young, the effort Kenma put in to connect with Kuroo. Kenma didn't necessarily like it but kept at it. Kenma has the analytical sense of connection. He can easily put things together & strategize. He can easily, connect the dots. Kuroo values his connections. Choosing a job that can connect people to a thing that brings him joy. And the banner banner flying behind him when he's first shown during the timeskip. The struggles of trying to connect. That being shown in first year Yaku & Kuroo and then first year Kenma & Yamamoto. Fukunaga uses comedy to connect with people. There's so much more I could go into but I believe that would be too long of a comment. At the end of the day, connections, the human need to connect or to put differences to connect is important. Something so simple but often forgotten is, connection. To connect. (I wrote this at 4:30am so I hope it's at least comprehensible)

Tbh Akaashi’s storyline resonated with me the most. Just his one line “if only I was kageyama” just hit me like a ton of bricks. I relate haikyuu heavenly with my progress of art. It’s eerily similar how my art experience and volleyball can be haha but Akaashi’s small storyline made me cry because I actually felt seen for once. Anyways Bokuto’s advice of “it’s not impossible, it’s just hard” has basically become my motto for art :]

Haikyuu really excells at how failures shape the characters. While failure feels heartbreaking, what matters is that you tried, had fun, and try again. The moment with Hinata's fever felt very personal to me. I've seen characters and people in real life deal with certain injuries or sicknesses, but with persistance, they were able to overcome their obstacles. But Hinata's situation is different, and I'm glad that Hinata was not allowed back in the court, because there were still his teammates that both Hinata and we as an audience could have faith in. However, I more deeply empathized with how Hinata felt. Not only did Karasuno lose, but Hinata was not there to play. After all, he wanted to stay on the court the longest. Sometimes, things in life will happen that are unpreventable. But then, he was "able to breathe" , let out his pain, become better both physically and mentally. I will never forget how much Haikyuu means to me and I hope one day, I'll be able to accomplish what I can today, breathe and fly.

Oh god I actually cried watching this. I found Haikyuu when I was going through a very low moment of my life. I stopped doing what I liked, even though I'm good at my job (and I absolutely love it) I was completely burnout, I wasn't taking care of my mental, emotional and physical health. So I read it on a whim and seriously was amazed by everything this story taught me. I started little by little changing my perspective, taking care of myself. I understood that if I don't take care of myself I couldn't do what I wanted to do. It helped me to actually put into words what I was already trying to understand about what might me wrong with some of the things that affected me the most. This video resonates a lot with what I learnt from Haikyuu. It really well put together and I can feel how passionate you're about this story too. Thank you for doing it and reminding me the beauty of it.

By far i think the one part that I remember and look to the most is during nationals when Yachi talks with Akaashi and Bokuto at the bringing of chapter 306. It's when Yachi had started worrying about the current match karasuno was playing and Bokuto's response is "Pay attention to the now. Watch and see how good we've gotten." there is a bit more he says but it's that part specifically. Cause i feel like it's something really important since it often feels like people often always worry about the future or what they'll be doing next when at times they should pay more attention to what they're currently doing. I actually had ended up writing the quote down on a piece of paper so I'd have it around to see when I needed.

I knew this video was gonna make me cry and here I am... crying. You putting into words everything i've known about it but coulnd quite grasp served me with a little reminder to not give up. A reminder I need everyday. But yours was done beautifully. Haikyuu is so much more then it prmoises to be to the normal audience but I think its most core idea is just to...not give up. Wether you push or you take steps back to reorient yourself or stop and to breath; In the end you're taking all those steps to not give up. It really embodies that for me. And im happy that I found haikyuu back when I was just growing into myself because i think it's were my core idealism comes from. Life has made me feel worthless and stupid and like I'm no good for anything. I have made myself feel that way. But my deep love and adoration for haikyuu brings me back to this idealism and this urge to try every once in a while. What a beautiful, meaningful compilation of some of Haikyuu's best lessons. For me personally, the one that stuck with me the most is Tanaka's line during the Inarizaki match: "What's lame isn't losing the match. It's to be scared of the match!" As a professional musician, when I first saw Haikyuu I was surprised by how closely sport can mirror the performing arts--the skill and discipline required, day-to-day routines, practice hours, I could go on and on. And when I heard that line from Tanaka, it really struck me because in a musical setting, being "scared of the match" may well translate to being scared of performing because of the possibility of messing up or making mistakes--mistakes that can cost you a competition prize or simply your own pride and sense of fulfilment. You can practice for hours on end and still play wrong notes because maybe your nerves got the better of you. You could do well in one concert and somehow not be in tip-top shape, physically and mentally, in the next. These are things I deal with on a regular basis in music school. But Tanaka... embraced those possibilities in volleyball. He learns to accept that it's part of his commitment to it, because at the end of the day, experiencing the joy of playing volleyball far outweighs the risks of loss and disappointment. And by god I was so surprised by how comforting and inspiring that quote was for me when I first heard it. Thank you for reminding me about it, and everything else you discussed eloquently in your analysis!!

One lesson I enjoyed was from Daichi, speaking to Tanaka when he was a first year. I forget the context exactly, but regarding Karasuno getting better, he says "It's not that easy, but it is that simple." I feel that helped me reframe a lot of things in my life, such as writing my thesis. I just have to write, is what I'd always say. It may not be that easy, but that is what I have to do.

I don't mind them but the only times where I've been dragged into pointless arguements which I just ended up leaving were about ships and why they shouldn't be the focus of attention when there's such things as listed in the video. This wasn't about a Haikyuu ship. It was about Zoro and Robin from One Piece and someone made like a bunch of posts about me after I just commented a fact from an interview with Eiichiro Odas (author of One Piece). They tried to force it opon me and for some reason friends of me that never watched Haikyuu had this image of it that it's about "ships" and nothing more. And when I forced them to give it a shot they told me that they didn't expect any of it. Thanks for the good luck. Imma need that haha

Nobody remebers Jozenji match but it home for me when i rewatched haikyuu at first i ignored them for being Karasuno on steroids but then their coach telling them NOT EVERYTIME IT WILL BE FUN That moment No matter how much you love smoething beyond a point for moving above your threshold it wont be fun anymore but it will return if you PERSIST . Obviously kemma match winning set Hinata finding most annoying blocker Hinata in tranning camp taking it slow and playing in practice as if he is in a match and suki being annoyed. Winning and losing both start much early than we realise, Yes in the moment you practice do you take your practice as seriously as say you are in a match enviornment every thing you do adds up one just like my guy Kita explains Aleczandrx thankyou for introducing me to haikyuu and run with wind (its a master piece ) else i would have never go beyond Knb cause i loved bball more .

Finally caught up with the manga and watched this video just today and I have to say that I relate to a lot of things and points you said; personally tho, one of the things that really made me pause and stare out of the window for a minute was the phrase 'it's not impossible, it's just hard' said by Bokuto with the most precious smile. I love it coz sometimes I get discouraged and think what I wanna do is not possible for whatever reason and that phrase really put stuff into perspective. Things might not be easy at times, but thinking that, despite that, they're are still possible opens a brand new view.

Love that video AJ! I've seen it a few times and many lesson you nentioned, resonated with me as well. I wanna add another one that resonated with me personally quite a lot. Spoilers for the Haikyuu Manga incoming. I wanna call that lesson something like "understand yourself". During Karasuno's against Komomedai Hinata played really well and playing against the new little Giant he discovers that their playstyle is quite different. Instead of trying to imitate him, he accepted that difference and made that statement: "The title of greatest decoy is a good one." I love that line. There is so much that went into this line lile how disappointed he was at the beginning of the story to "just be a decoy" and not the ace or how he finally acknowledges that he is different from the former little giant and maybe shoulfn't try to be like him no matter what or even what Haikyuu says in general about different people having the potential at being great in diffenrent things. I can't even put into words how this line affected me and how much I love this moment. I hope I could at least articulate a little bit what I and many others love so much about this scene.

When I realized the meaning of their motto, hearing Kita's speech and reading Atsumu's time skip monologue, it really grounded why I am attracted to their team. This quote applies to life so well as everything you do and every setback you face, all of it is still a part of what you're working towards, you need a lot of sugar to make a cake, but every good cake also has some salt.

Damn, it looks like you REALLY love the series haha, given the amount of videos. Haikyuu is my favorite manga/anime (and Hunter x Hunter too!), alongside with Vagabond was the manga that made the most impact in my life in recent years. For me the most important lesson is easily the one given through Hinata/Oikawa/Atsumu about the value of hardwork, creativity and willingness to challenge tradition and status quo. This "Growth Mindset" (or "Learning Theorists" as Josh Waitzkin call) approach was something that i already knew since i study sports psychology a lot, do weightlifting and want to play volleyball too, so i was surprised and delighted when the manga decided to very explicitly express those themes. Is so common to see animes using the excuse of "hE's a TeNsaI" to justify bad character development or to rush the plot (yes i'm looking at you Togashi) so is refreshing to see a more realistic approach, one that gives hope. the traditional view of talent is something that does more harm than good, just believing that you can do something can change your life completely - i'm the living proof of that.

Especially when i was watching the first 3 seasons, i was fueled with an intensity and passion for life so strong that was really uncharacteristic at the time, made me want to work even harder towards my newfound goals. My mom said that there were moments that i was so focused that it was scary (and i became the annoying type of weeb who screams a lot, cries a lot, and sing shiiii-ratorizawa).

Of course this video made me cry. I could always relate to the lessons and themes in Haikyuu, but seeing some of them put in a list like this furthers the idea that there is still so much more to this story. Seeing a different perspective on what it can teach you, while all the same being able to relate to what others feel is refreshing and encouraging. First of all: You made a great video. To me, only two other series (Fruits Basket and Aria/Aqua) ever had such an impact on my life like Haikyuu did, and you summed that up perfectly. Thank you for showing us your most important lessons. These lessons are the reason, why to me, Haikyuu as a whole has to be conciderated as real art, not only simple entertainment. Futhermore: My personal list is a little different. The most im portant lesson was the storyline around Hinatas breakdown. "Training and supplementing, for make beeing healthy a habit" plus "Dont try to overcome those limits, work to set those limits higher", hit hard as a person with autoimmune disease. The truth is, it helped me to accept my body and my illness and was the start for many healthy changes. Oikawas "Never forget my foolish pride" helped me to accept my nature. I was raised in a very religious family where pride is a sin. But I always was really different from my family, I wanted to be good at something, I am proud, I speak to my mind and I like that about myself. And the truth is- that got me far. But since I was raised this way I always felt like a bad person. So when it was declared that Oikawa left japan and became a citizen of Argentina I cried my eyes out. Because it shows "Be who you are, theres a place you belong, where you can achieve what you want." There are others many more, but these two are the most important to me.

This is the thing about haikyuu, it is truly healing, through its comedy, or its portrayal of passion, or its beautiful storytelling it sure does pull us back to it again and again. One thing I wanted to add, something that resonated with me so much that whenever I am sad, helpless, frustrated I come back to it to get some clarity. It's Kiyoko's story from battle lines volume i.e S4 Ep 10 in the anime. "After practicing and practicing and practicing everything I worked so hard for ended so abruptly. I may not be on the court with them nor am I be able to wear the uniform, but right now this is my battle. I have to take on this challenge". The entire Jist of her story was how she grew a bond with Karasuno similar to one she had with athletics. It made me realize that she put hard work into everything she did. So what if our goals aren't the same anymore, as long as it is what we love, as long as it is something we truly yearn for; it is enough to give our all for it. This part is extremely close to my heart.

I think both lessons 11 and 10 apply to kiyoko (and yachi) too, with when she first became karasuno's manager; how you don't really need a reason or steeled resolve, it's fine even if you're unsure, even if you're not passionate. you have the right to try new things, it doesn't have to be a commitment. Also what you said during n5 immediately made me think of bokuto and more specifically the fukurodani nationals match ! (21:37 "it's not impossible, it's just really hard!" the bokuto parallel is so strong you literally said konoha's current troubles from his character's sheet haha)
