Thanks for this episode. Being near his age and having the same outlook in life. I was fortunate enough to retired early, traveled the world, and immersed into the local, his death gave me pause and reminded me to appreciate everything. I also collect watches, but only those with meanings. It’s great to see the nicks and dents and fades on those pieces. With this journey, our watches are witnesses to our memories. Keep up this type of reviews. Much appreciated.

My favorite watch of his was that 34mm date that he wore so often on his travels. A gorgeous watch with loads of character thanks to the engine turned bezel.

A true legend, to use a very overused word. In his case, totally accurate.

Anthony Bourdain also wore a Movado museum First edition 32mm. As seen in A Cook’s Tour, Mekong river.

Saying Panerai Radiomir is like saying omega speedmaster, well theirs a lot like the moon watch, racing, dark side of the moon, snoopy etc. Panerai has an individual PAM number which is their reference number. The PAM number changes even if the slightest difference in the watch for example the PAM305 is a 47mm submersible in titanium which they made thinner by 3mm basically the same exact watch but thinner has a different reference number and is now called the PAM1305. Anyway the Panerai pictured is a Radiomir not a Radiomir 1940s. The 1940s does not have wire lugs like the one pictured above it is sort of an in between the luminor and Radiomir. It had solid lugs and a more flush crown to the case as appose to the “onion” shape of the regular crown. The Radiomir was the first Panerai and the luminor (crown guard watch) was not even made until 1957. Anyways great video just wished you would have done better on the Panerai side. Respectfully.

Anthony, I didn't agree with your politics, but I always appreciated your openness to others and your willingness to adventure into new cultures and cuisines. Thank you for creating a wonderful tv series to watch, you will be missed. RIP

I always liked that Ernst Benz Chronoflight because of that show. I managed to identify and find it around that time. Swiss made, oddly possibly sold exclusively in U.S. by a company in Detroit. Nice looking watch and GMT would be appropriate for his travels. Not often sold on gray market and they command an absurd price despite not being an inhouse movement. Some day I’ll find one and pull the trigger… if only because of that show. He probably hated it and was told to wear it by someone in wardrobe/props department. lol

On his first show “a Cook’s tour” he would rock a Tag Link. I used to think it was kind of an ugly watch but somehow he made it cool.

3:22 "it says presented to H.D. Bobbett, I don't know what that means." Seriously? You don't know what that means? It means it was a gift to an employee in 1930 when he worked there for a long time, or retired. You see this A LOT on used watches. It's kind of obvious this was a retirement gift to someone who worked at a company. It even says he name of the company Sun Offices in Birmingham. Most likely the SUN newspaper in Birmingham UK.

No such watch as the "Rolex Explorer 1" - its simply the Rolex Explorer. There is however a Rolex Explorer 2.

It’s referenced as Mark I dial and often you’ll hear people say Explore I.
