@@donsimons9810 real martial arts doesn't take much physical strength. If you hit Arnold Schwarzenegger in his pecks, he wouldn't feel shit. Even if you put all your strength into it, he's just too buffed. Now if you hit him in the solar plexus, that he would feel, and a woman could knock the wind out of him that way just like a man. But doing that kind of thing takes intellect and thinking and meditation, not just steroids like with MMA. Also don't forget, Wing Chun, which is 50% of Jeet Kune Do, was created by a female...Shaolin Monk. I think all styles can be made to work, but if you sincerely feel like your technique can only be done by a man because you need to be in the same weight class, you need a better one. Because on the street you might as well be a woman. No one your same size or smaller is going to fight you. It's going to be somebody bigger or somebody with a weapon. So your technique has to work on that. Not just in the ring against the same weight class.

I love Chinese martial arts. I was fascinated by Shaolin temples and all the old movies since I was a kid. I love the power behind the smooth movements. It's a pity that I don't take the time to visit a Shaolin temple. Maybe I will manage to visit such a Shaolin temple in the future. I love the calm and balanced way of the Shaolin fighters. I could watch the training for hours and I would love to join in. But the students there are much younger and on a much higher level. I would probably need the whole thing in slow motion :) Thanks for the very great video. Sorry for my bad English (translated with DeepL).

I train mma (striker) alot of what I see here at its very core basics are similar. Minus the crazy acrobatics and "flowy"? Type movements. I understand that they are more for emphasis on precision and control over every tiny body movement, balance, dexterity, and over all mastering your body mechanics. MMA and modern martial arts in general tend to focus on the simple, most brutal, most efficient techniques that can be easily taught to anyone. How effective that "anyone" is, depends entirely on them. Given the insane athleticism displayed here, and YEARS(not months as you see so many people drop MMA training after a few months and believe they are the ultimate weapon) of training, fighting one of these masters would definitely be not an ideal situation to be in. I got to train anywhere from 2-4 hrs a day pre covid. These guys train all day everyday. Day in day out. Not just the body, but the mind is extensively trained. This is my take away from this. They truly are training in "real" martial arts. It's eye opening to see true masters of traditional martial arts displaying their skills, and not the McDojo types that are all bark, no bite...you know the ones Xu Xiao Dong AKA Mad Dog embarrassed. Very cool documentary and eye opening to myself. Loved the selection of bgm and how they were used in this video, many of which come from my favorite games. That little bit you went into around the 21 min mark, had me take a deeper look inside myself, and ask myself what I was training for. Self defense? Ego? Pride? Maybe all 3? One thing I did come out of this thought provoking moment was: Seeing my limit, and going beyond. I feel the reason many MMA practioners come off as toxic, are the same reason why fake masters of the traditional styles are also toxic is: they havent climbed to the peak of their mountain, just found a nice plateau, with a nice view, on which they can look down upon everyone. Thank you so much for this documentary. Subbed!

Sparring and form, for me. I think this is a healthy path to finding out who'se the boss. Then, to reclaim the driving seat. In western societies, spiritual culture is often ridiculed, and ignored. We become overly sensitive of how the body "feels", and rely on pills and drugs and alcohol to make it feel better. The boss of your life will always be you. Hard training makes you come back, or closer to, who's the boss - you. Thank you very much Phillip for that wonderful video. Will watch more from you! Cheers.

And you explain everything so well. I practised for 7 years and learned persistence, self confidence and so much more. I later took on Vipassana meditation and did two Silent retreats. After the 7 years I pursued my life time dream and became a Commercial diver. They warned me and I was invincible ,right...7 years of Training. but years later it took it's toll on my body. I'm practically Robocop! I still practise Qi Gong because I refuse to have screws put in my back. I recently picked up my old Staff and slowly working on what my back will allow me to. no matter how fast or slow the flow , it is mediative. Even 30 years later I will automatically and surprize myself how I still have the reflexes. Catching that cup or falling glass is still...nice.

You are an excellent host and I enjoyed your video very much. I use to train my students pretty hard, but everybody ended the day smiling at their achievements. Formal salute and blessings!

You know what is truly amazing?? How we can come here from pure loving source energy, connected to to all things through love. In such a short amount of time here, we become so out of touch with everything that we are. To see what we must do to remove the fear. Look beyond pain. To feel truly alive again. To reconnect with our higher power that exists in each life giving breath we take. It absolutely blows my mind.. What a beautiful experience it was that you chose, and they allowed!! I thank you for sharing this with all of us. 🙏🙏 I also send much love, light, and gratitude to all the masters that have dedicated their lives to share this training so others can experience this beautiful way of life , and learn the culture and ways of the elders, that walked on this planet before them.. You are walking on sacred ground when you enter the gates of that Temple..

I'd rather have an education. Being abandoned by your parents, and left to be raised by a troupe of kung fu circus performers, who don't even have a concept of child welfare - absolutely not. That's only a fantasy that soft, privileged people from the West could have. Stop having kung fu fantasies. Be an adult. Get an education. Better yourself. Support your family better. That's the true Chinese way.
@Dork203 жыл бұрын
@@shaolinabbott9161 Self-discipline isn't some obscure Kung Fu myth, it's a completely normal part of every human's every-day life. It's an essential part of some peoples' lives, and it only has benefits. With self-discipline you can do a lot of things that you otherwise wouldn't be able to do. It's not a martial arts technique, it's a fucking learned trait. Quite simple. No "kung fu circus performance" is needed nor involved. So to your whole spiel about "Being an adult, getting an education, better yourself, support your family" ALL involves Self-discipline in varying degrees.

I achieved yellow belt in Budokai when I was young, also completing a 1,000 kicks marathon that got me so ripped at age 12. I know I have what it takes, its because I want it. I comment here because I wish to know how to go, what to do. Buy a plane ticket and never look back? I have been wishing to do something like this since I left my dojo for financial reasons. 12 years later, Life put your documentary in my face by chance. I am grateful. Nice job on the Skyrim music. the US will always be your home dude. who said a person cant have more than one home right ? i think if you do go, it will be a spiritual journey. I think it will also open up your eyes and mind about the way the world portrays china. you'll find it to be quite a surprise and different. the culture is rich, the history is long. the only regret you'll have is not take the chance to go on an adventure. At some point life seems to tie you down somewhere and its hard to leave for anywhere. But at least when that happens you can look back and say "what a time of my life". China is peaceful and fun and beautiful. Theres sooo much to see and do there, from high tech mega cities to temples and small villages that have stood the test of time.

You can and should do better then wing chun. The only times wing chun begins to even APPROACH efficacy in unarmed fighting is when the wing chun practitioners start to take on elements of kickboxing. Which begs the question - why not just do kickboxing, in that case? Just do sanda, muay thai, Dutch kickboxing, Japanese kickboxing, or whatever option is locally available to you?
@DavidRodriguez-jt1ns3 жыл бұрын
@@maxgoldfield7790 I've done Muay Thai, another style I love, but to fight with Wing Chun the way you practice is not feasible in a real fight, but the application of it's touch sensitivity to trap, tie and redirect the opponents attack to leave them open to your attack, as Bruce Lee said, keep what works and throw away what doesn't, but you're right, one discipline won't cut it nowadays.
@maxgoldfield77903 жыл бұрын
@@DavidRodriguez-jt1ns I've heard similar things before, that applications from more "traditional" Chinese martial arts only become apparent and useable after the practitioner has a good delivery system in striking and/or grappling - usually by doing a more practical art/style, like muay thai, judo, boxing, wrestling, etc. I'm glad to hear you managed to go down the more efficient path with muay thai, and thus be able to actually benefit from your wing chun practice. I hope you can keep training and enjoying martial arts.
