I have been doing meditation and yoga for about 11 years it changed my life. I started doing Tai Chi with the elder folks at the parks for about 3 years. Everyone is at retirement age I am the only young person in my twenties who goes to it. Keeps you calm and focused and in the moment. Meditation has greatly improved my sense of self and well being something as simple as taking a breath of air sounds silly but in reality it really works.

The translators took VERY large liberties when they translated the things that the monks said, but I guess it's expected for a documentaries like these. For example, what the senior monk says at 3:17 is "一定要把心静下来做这个动作。 专注于当下。". Translated relatively literally, it just means "[You] must calm yourself to perform this movement. Focus on the moment". He does NOT explicitly say that his junior's mind is restless or anything that dramatic. The senior delivered his advice concisely, but not nearly as profoundly as the translators made him sound. Either way, this was fun to watch, since I used to do Kung Fu as a kid.

Chinese speaker here. The scripture he recited during the exam was the Heart Sutra, which is literally "the single most commonly recited, copied and studied scripture in East Asian Buddhism." While I don't doubt the typical exam does require stringent memorization, the Heart Sutra is something you'd be expected to know within the first week, much less a whole decade. And certainly not something you'd expect to be plucked 'at random' out of 200-pages. My guess is the examiners threw the guy a softball knowing he was the subject of a documentary segment and that at least part of this whole exam was 'putting on a show'.

@Philip Arvanitidis Muslim people called Hafiz memorize the entire Qur'an, which is about 600 pages and it takes approximately 2 years. Students who became Huffaz at my school did it alongside their regular middle school education. As of 2019, there are 78,000 such people MaShaAllah

gregory hoover bruh do you know who the BBC are😂 I think it’d be more like films festival asking to submit this than bbc wanting to submit to them.

A typical feat for the American school graduate. Drinking your Bud light and eating your plastic food will definitely not help.
