Totally agree, I took a Hawaiian Airlines flight in 2014 and TSA was a complete nightmare, but last November I took an international flight to Ireland and was bracing myself to die in that line, yet it was completely painless. Maybe it was just unlucky the first and lucky the second, but I've heard similar responses from others. Traffic was still a nightmare in November, though. I really can't wait for all the public transit connectors (and am grateful they are rail and not bus)

There are 2 main issues: lack of gates and bad terminal designs. I don't work at LAX but fly to it all the times, and yes my flights always came early but were held on the tarmac and I became late when exiting the terminal.

I have been traveling from NY to LA during the past two years. Is a very busy airport. But I was surprised how they manage passengers to go through security really fast . Extremely well coordinated 👍.LAX is functional even with the construction challenges. I’m sure I’ll be much better when they finish the expansion. I have been lucky with traffic also .

The plan is quite good and very needed.. Having a transit center a certain distance from the airport means you no long have to enter the traffic making mess that is the LAX horseshoe anymore. I like that you have just one simply transit center, where people have the option to decide how to leave without going to a different terminal, whether it be by taxi, uber, bus or train, or pick ups.

The people-move and new rental car center are going to be HUGE! When I rented a car at LAX I was surprised I had to take a shuttle bus and ride it for about 5 minutes just to get to where the rentals are. For a major airport like LAX it's surprising that they don't already have these two things. Definitely will reduce traffic by a considerable amount

Hey man, when was the last time you visited LAX? The terminals are no longer disconnected. You can walk, inside of security, all the way from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8. Narrow hallways? Only the tunnels that provide shortcuts under the parking garages, which very few passengers ever need to use. Crumbling terminals? Where? Every terminal I'm familiar with has been recently updated, and is modern, clean, with plenty of seating and amenities. Yes, it does need a tram. (I clocked a 2 mile walk last week when a gate change from the International Terminal to Terminal 1 was mistakenly posted. And it's just over a mile walk from the International Terminal to the Lyft/Uber pickup zone.) The tram is under construction, and the track appears to be nearly complete. And yes, it's the worst handling of Lyft/Uber of any US airport I frequent. And yes, it's also the worst handling of rental cars of any US airport I frequent. A few days ago, between the time my plane touched down, and my driving away from Avis-where I'm a preferred member, and I can immediately claim my car (so, no wait)-it was 61 minutes. But far worse than any of that was the 8-mile, 1-hour drive up the 405. To my mind, Los Angeles has a lot more to worry about on that score, than about anything at LAX.

Other than a train through that Sepulveda pass, the 405 will be the 405. That 8 mile stretch is a regional change from the basin to 70 miles of Valley suburbia .It's like 2 million people south of that stretch and nearly 3 million people north of that stretch .

Also linking to the train system will be amazing, so many times I have had a lay over there and never wanted to leave because I didn't want to deal with the bus system or a taxi, but I'm a train buff and it's nice to just hope on a train and go downtown or do something without worrying about traffic and stuff getting back.

I used to be a direct flight snob until I moved to LA. Now I refuse to use LAX and use the smaller airports. Getting to and through LAX is awful, stressful and a huge time waste. I am hopeful that all this money and thought actually helps. Time will tell. Awesome video.

I would say getting to and from LAX is the real issue. Inside it moved fairly quickly. Especially with TSA Prech/Global Entry. It also has great dining options. But the ride in and out? Awful every single time.

I really do not understand this, I have probably taken 20 international flights out of LAX since 2017 & I have never experienced any significant issues, short delays sure but nothing major.....I think the key for me has always been using the Van Nuys Flyaway bus to get in and out.....No on should be driving into LAX for pick up or drop off

Dude it’s not an opinion. You don’t seem to know much about LA if you think a high speed rail from the airport to DT which is not the heart of LA. The venues for these sporting events would be sprawled all around the gigantic spread out metropolis. When people visit LA, they stay in Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice, the South Bay, and other places. Not necessarily downtown. Vancouver is much smaller and condensed than LA. A train from the airport to DT where people don’t really go to is not a solution

If you spend as much time at LAX as me, you will notice they have the outer 2 lanes closed for shuttles only, however there’s usually never any shuttles in the outer lanes and you’ll find most shuttles clogging the inner lanes, for the last 5 years. Anyone can spend some time at LAX and realize they’ve created a problem that doesn’t exist as badly as they perceive it to the average Joe. They should’ve taken down the 50 year old, 3 level parking garage structures one at a time and rebuilt them taller with better traffic control and opened additional lanes on the ground level below the structures for shuttles and ride share. It would’ve been cheaper and a better outcome. The best part of LAX was walking out to the curb and not having to take a damn train to a parking lot or ride share somewhere else.

Good video, but you forgot to mention that the LAX People Mover will be connected to the LA Metro. Finally, allowing passengers to go to and from LAX via the LA Metro. The LAX APM will connect to a new, under construction, LAX Metro Transit Center station. It will be the largest station on the network outside of Union Station. The C and K LRT lines will be at the lower level, and the LAX APM will be on the upper level. This station is located just West of the CONRAC mentioned in the video, and one of the biggest differences in how passengers will access LAX and the new APM. In fact, many of the recent improvements already in place have made a positive difference in using LAX. The experience has improved noticeably in the last several years and will continue improving as these various projects are completed. Dropped off a friend visiting from Spain this week, and LAX looks physically very different now. The facades of almost all the terminals now have a unifying Mid Century Modern design aesthetic that compliments the original Theme Building. I would venture to say that LAX is going from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan. The transformation should be complete by the early 2030s.

if you live in LA you know the metro is full of homeless & crazies.. just connecting it directly to LAX will now give access to the homeless. I live at the end of the gold line, I can tell you since Metro connected it to the blue line we have even more homeless that are dumped here at the end of the night, same with long beach , same with the metro when connected to Santa Monica...Look what happened to the promenade.. everywhere that Metro connects brings in the Homeless & the Crazies and crime.

Every major airport in the world has at the very minimum manageable public transportation access. Terminal renovations sound good, but the biggest problem with LAX is the traffic once you arrive at the airport. If you've ever driven into LAX you'll be greeted by overcrowded, narrow lanes, with these huge shuttles (almost buses) that try to cram themselves into spaces only a mini could fit. Of the numerous times I've been there, I've actually been hit once with the shuttle driver not even glancing in my direction, and cutoff or blocked innumerable times. They need to ban 3rd party shuttles from the airport drives completely. Have them park outside the airport and then shuttle them in on reasonably sized airport shuttles or the people mover mentioned in the video.

I've lived in the greater Los Angeles area for 41 of my 45 years of life. I don't remember one day where LAX wasn't under construction. This monorail (or whatever) that they are building is intriguing. If there is a way for those dropping people off and picking them up to be able to do that away from the airport and not have their loved ones assaulted or robbed, after you leave or while they are waiting to get picked up, that would be just the chef's kiss for that pit of despair called "LAX".

LAX has been under construction for nearly a decade. Half of the 8 terminals have already been renovated, remodeled and upgraded. They are work on the last few and added yet another small concourse to the international terminal which going quickly due to pre fab construction.

Just to be clear these renovations and expansions were planned well in advance of the Olympics. In fact, LA wanted the 2024 games originally, not the 2028 games. However, LA has been able to leverage hosting the Olympics to get some federal funding sooner rather than later which is a good thing. LA has built more public transit infrastructure in the last 34 years than any other city in the USA. They've been off their butts and building for decades.

Fun doco! I make it by business to avoid LAX like rabies! I flew into LAX eight(?) years ago, probably longer and it really was a freak show at the terminal next to Tom Bradley. I had been warned even back then to save myself the tears. Wise advice. ONT is quite a drive, but it makes up for it as an easy, quick and sometimes cheaper way to sneak into the Southland. Many of the cynical natives of the City of the Angles believe that is is a Make Work job just building and tearing down the airport on a schedule. A case could be made for this opinion. Keep 'em comin'! LA is such an odd and weirdly wonderful in a Bennie and the Jets-sort of way--and there is always something going on. Always.

The test of an airport is "if dropped into any point in the airport, can you figure out exactly where you are and where you need to go without walking more that 10 ft?" And LAX fails this test. There are very few signs. And in many cases the signs are confusing. So they didn't do testing. You have to test signage just as you'd test software.

This just seems to be something America can't figure out. I don't know why. Nobody yells at people in Korea or Japan airports but in most US airports the TSA yells constantly at people. LAX is not as bad as you say the only narrow hall ways are the tunnels . Unattached terminals is only a couple which I believe is getting connected.i fly a lot . Since my daughter was twelve she played hockey all over the USA and Canada . She a senior in college now. So I fly every weekend during hockey season then about one a month after the season over. I haveTSA pre check . It never taken more than five minutes for TSA. Chicago and Detroit take 2x to 3x as long. Now driving through the loop is the biggest problem . But as you say once the people mover done . There won’t be any traffic. They’ve got a lot of the terminals done . But how large it is. Isn’t that bad

All terminals connect now! You can walk from T1 to T8 without leaving the secured area… T1-T2-T3-TBIT-T4-T5-T6-T7-T8.. One big U shape walkways, bridges & tunnels connect as one.

Im from Los Angeles, and I fly about 15 times a year out of LAX. All the footage used in this video is old. Other Terminals were added a couple years back pretty much fixed everything already. All the new things that are being done are for the new train and rental car area. The airport is getting upgraded but its not hard to get in or out and theres really not much traffic or waiting at all. Video is creator is ill inmofrmed.

Fortunately I live closer to one of the smaller regional airports so don't have to use LAX. The first time I was ever there I was actually just in transit, domestic to international. To transfer, I had to experience what LA is best at: traffic. Stuck in traffic in a shuttle for 45 minutes just to transfer from one terminal to another! It's LA's version of Las Vegas's slot machines in the terminals?

LAX, just like everything else here is a big disaster that never ends. I always wonder how other countries or cities make entire cities from the ground up and we can't even get a permit to change a window here in LA. The permitting process all the rules, policies, paperwork, clearances, testing, studies and everything else take so long and are so restrictive, nothing good gets built or when it does, it's so expensive and takes forever that is outdated or unaccessible. The 5 freeway has been in a never ending construction since I was born, it's in constant construction mode, never ends, ever.

what are you talking about? I use LAX almost exclusively and haven t waited in a security queue for more than 10 minutes in more than a decade; the terminals are clean and have good amenities and lounges and yes there is traffic getting there but that's also CGD, LAX, IST, etc.

I’ve got a great idea, how about airlines start spreading some of their flights over the other 3 airports in LA and Orange County(Hollywood/Burbank, Long Beach, and John Wayne). I’m sure there are people that would rather fly into those if they weren’t so expensive.

Those other airports with the exception of Ontario have limits on the number of flights and types of aircraft coming out of their airports due to local noise restrictions. They can handle a maximum number of flights and capacity. Ontario will be the future for more flights domestic and internationally.

As a now-retired flight attendant based at LAX for over 20 years, I agree. I've been to every major city in North America. LAX is the worst. However, Atlanta is a neck in neck 2nd worse airport in North America.

@@Niteowlette i honestly hope with the addition of the Metro line being added and the “people mover” it’ll help control congestion inside terminals and outside drop offs and pick ups. i DESPISE the Rideshare pickup because while it might have helped with extra traffic inside for pickups, they still allow drops offs and the shuttles are infrequent and always packed

Yea it's called being the place all the billionaires across the world want property. There are enough empty homes to house all the homeless and crime is pretty low. So to fix the homeless problem u could incentivizw the billionaires to rent or sell whatever is empty but that could crash their housing market so it's really not a ton to do. Cali has better schools, a higher percentage of people with healthcare, and way better public transit than Texas or Florida and they have always been crazy expensive. They could build housing for homeless but nobody wants then near where they live. Final point, Cali residents give more to federal govt than they get back unlike poor red states like Alabama and Mississippi so really they could fix some of their problems if some states would pull their weight better... and with the exception of NM I think all the states that get back more than they give are red and they still have developing country levels of infrastructure in places.

I shifted to LA last year from Dubai. It was a shocker to see the condition of the airport. Hardly anyone helps and I still don't understand why is taxi stands and rentals a mile away. The shuttle bus system is ridiculous. Imagine having 6 bags, carrying around in small overfilled shuttle buses during peak traffic. Hope, LAX developments makes the system more efficient and effective.

Hopefully, all these new constructions reduce travel time entering, and leaving the airport. Otherwise, it’s a mess forever. They should also have different entry and exits for international, and domestic airlines as well similar to SFO.

LA needs a new airport. As a SoCal resident, I absolutely hate going to LAX. Im willing to pay $300 more and a possible connector in an airline ticket at John Wayne Airport to avoid LAX.

I travel a lot around the world and let me tell you, LAX is not that bad. The only thing I hate is the Uber LAX-IT buses. We definitely need a better solution for ride share and taxi pickups. Other than that, I find it pretty efficient compared to other airports.

Working at LAX metro transit center which is the terminal station of APM. APM side is completed. Metro side still being worked on. Metro will have the overhead lines permanently energized. Across street from us is ITF East, which I believe will be a parking structure. CONRAC behind that is complete but sits empty. Tom Bradley international terminal already has expansion known as MSC, midfield satellite concourse. North and south. South is all prefabbed buildings. Concourse 0 is being built for southwest is being done. United already has their state of art Hangar, which fits super jets. Only Qantas and Korean air regularly fly jumbo airbuses. Still won't fix LAX. Even cities with half of LAs size has two or three airports. LAX tries to do it all, and tried to kill its regional rivals. When the half the airport faces the ocean, the entire population has to approach from the East. South is blocked by s a full sized refinery, one of the largest water treatment plants in the US. And the historically corrupt LA city departments will do everything to impede construction.

I've definitely experienced how annoying this airport has been multiple times coming back forth from Asia. It has been such a pain. Going out of terminals and having to start from the beginning mid journey has been very annoying. Not having to do that again would be very nice

If they can bring back some of the fast food restaurants instead of these mom and pop restaurants that many people don't care for. I, for one, want a quick bite and get the food quickly instead of sitting down to drink and dine. Also, the choice of the current restaurants are really limited.

watching this reminds me why i used to hate flying from Australia to the USA multiple times a year for decades. Thankfully not travelling as much as I used to, and towards the end would always try to go through Texas which was much better....... We may come to LA28 so have this horror awaiting. May try to fly through Hawaii or somewhere so we can avoid LAX

Very understandable. Try flying into San Francisco and connect to Burbank. Burbank is not that far from most of the Olympic venues, and is a safe city with several hotel options. I recommend the Holiday Inn. Although Burbank Airport is old and in need of a new terminal, it is far easier than LAX. Also, there is a direct Metrolink train to L.A. Union Station.

I don't understand the concern regarding these events in any given weekend in the fall, LA host NFL football games, Football games from UCLA and USC. and Dodger and MLS games. So moving masses of people across the region for sporting events is a typical weekend thing.

It's about time LAX is upgraded. The state of LAX is disgraceful considering it's the second busiest airport in America, and is the first thing you see when flying into LA. As a local I would much rather fly out of BUR, but there are limits to using this airport. LAX will finally be the shining star it deserves to be after all the upgrades are complete.

There will always be construction at the airport. It's a world where nothing really gets finished. As far as the 2028 Olympics, these projects would have been completed whether or not the city was awarded the Olympics. The airport is there for the long term, like forever. The Olympics is something that just lasts a few weeks.

I’ve flown out of LAX quite a few times the last few years and ill say this: departing is no problem. I’ve never had issues departing the airport but arriving is AWFUL. Multiple times I have waited upwards of an hour or two for our craft to get to the gate. After a pleasant experience at John Wayne in OC, I prefer there and of course ONT since im from the IE. However, both airports are incredibly expensive compared to LAX, my flight one way to charlotte is 116$ at LAX compared to 350-450$ from ONT and John Wayne. Yeah ive lived here for 20 plus years, I can handle any of the BS california traffic pulls for that price difference.

Lack of modern and fast public transportation combined with an enlarged capacity means caos in traffic. As for what it really serves (fly people in and out) nothing will matter of TBIT keeps short staffed in immigration and TSA all over the complex. I’ve lost a connection out of an international with a 4 hour layover because of understaffed immigration.

I would utilize nearby airports like Ontario, Long Beach, San Bernardino, formerly Norton AFB along with Victorville former George AFB, Palm Springs and Palmdale. They all have long runways that can accommodate large capacity jets. Long Beach Cruise Ship Terminal might be another option.

Those airports are too far away from the Olympics venues, with no Metrolink connections. Also, Palmdale airport has been closed to commercial flights for years.

Ontario is an excellent airport, but the transit connections are terrible. You'd have to take a bus to the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink station up the street, which isn't too bad, but Metrolink refuses to upgrade to electric to improve headways because its so used to the public just shutting up and eating whatever it gives them. Their excuse is that freight companies own much of the rail, as if Metrolink is not gov't owned and able to fight back if it really cared to.
