My suspicion is that the whole show will be about trying to find the "Base" layer of reality...and if it even exists. Essentially trying to solve the simulation hypothesis that once a civilization reaches a certain technology level, they will create simulations to better understand the nature of reality, thus there will be more simulations than reality. Therefor you are more likely to be in a simulation.

Agreed. For Dark, it was Quantum Entanglement and Multiverse - this seems like an attempt to take on Nick Bostrom's Simulation Hypothesis.

There was also a lot of reference to Plato and his Cave allegory where people trapped inside a cave don't know that the images they are seeing aren't reality but shadows of objects. This allegory also includes multiple layers of reality before you are able to escape the cave which reinforces the impression that the main character hasn't escaped the simulation at all.

Lol ..please its not KEYERAN . maura's brother name is kerian you pronoune it wrong.its an Irish name. During the show her husband mentions maura is an Irish name but she's Scottish so perhaps there's an Irish meaning.

I got also a couple of wild takes: To the Eyk - Key debate: Notice that in the room with the many screens, where the protagonists are being watched at the screen of Eyk is in the middle, as in "its the most important screen to observe". To the Prometheus name. So as you said in Greek Prometheus gave fire to the humans, although the gods didn't like it. That is why they forced Prometheus to be bounded to a rock till eternity and they send a bird to feed on his liver (Because he's a god he cannot die but it still hurts). That may be a metaphor for the endless pain the passengers have to endure.

Thank you for pointing out the hand thing. I did not notice that. You missed the mural in the dining hall. It is indeed a compostitum of different statues and similar artwork. For example on the bottom left we see Hercules wrestling with Cerberus; this statue is located in Vienna. Top right is Prométhée enchaîné which is located in the Louvre in Paris. In the upper left we obviously have a depiction of Zeus but I still did not figure out from which art piece he was taken (maybe it's Jupiter or Tinia instead?). On the bottom right we see a female figure from the Pergamon altar that is often identified as the goddes Nyx, one of the muses, one of the moirai, or the goddess Persephone. The last one seems most interesting to me since this would tie all four images together in their relationship to one another and in their relation to the underworld. Meaning they represent Henry, his children Kiaran and Maura, and his adversary, Daniel. Speaking of relationships it should be noteworthy that the configuration of a maddening mother with three children, the love triangle, the betraying servant and others are iterated several times across the main characters.

The issue at hand is that the first season apparently discusses the question "What constitutes reality?". But that is not how Jantje described the show. The central question is "What does it mean to be human?". Which allows for several other observations and conclusions.

I find it extremely interesting that Maura’s brother calls her Henry She explains that her middle name is Henrietta therefore that’s the nickname that her brother affectionately calls her. However that’s also her father’s name which makes me wonder what this really means?? It’s probably not a coincidence so are she and her father one and the same person?

My initial reaction to both Dark and 1899 was the same: mannn, I'm not smart enough to follow this. 😂 And yet, you get drawn in and by mid-season you just follow whatever logic the writers have and enjoy the ride whilst your brain gets scrambled.
