Ohhh... never go and swimming there. The story is absolutely true but almost unbelievable. In the picture it looked like a small juvenile great white but it's more believable that it was a Bull shark swimming that far up from the ocean.

@@jimmykarlsson2567 most likely yes a Bull shark because they can swim in water that is a mix of both salt and fresh water.

I was 7, when we saw it o a rare wet day, on holiday at the seaside, it must have been released for the summer holidays My middle brother, Glenn, was with us, Craig was at home, doing hippy things Glenn was 5 years older than me, and had already seen it Luckily he warned me about the jump scare, with the head Obviously, I refused to go back in the sea, and for months after was terrified that my bed was going to tip down, in my sleep, and drop me in the ocean 🦈...

It's why I have a problem with shark enthusiasts always saying that sharks aren't vicious and that they don't want to eat people. That's sometimes very true.. but 'Jaws' is not some made up idea that was designed to endanger sharks.. it used a very real concern and pulled from suprising real life events to make an interesting movie.

I saw Jaws in the movie theatre when it came out in 1975. The audience jumped and screamed throughout the movie. It was extremely suspenseful and scary for the time and still holds up to new viewers of the movie to this day. Thanks for the tour of Matawan New Jersey. This 1916 shark attack story sparked Peter Benchley to write the Novel Jaws. Hence, the movie was made from it. From tragedy the world received a masterpiece!

@intertubicular Benchley denied claims that he was inspired by the 1916 shark attacks. He was inspired by a story he read about a guy who caught a massive Great White Shark in 1964 and he was also writing about people who lived in a beach town. The ideas came from that. He wondered what would happen if a Shark terrorized people at the beach town and Jaws was born. Spielberg, however, did take into consideration the 1916 story when he made the movie version of Jaws.

I've read and heard stories about bull sharks found in the Mississippi River, hundreds of miles from the Gulf. The movie Jaws is arguably my absolute all time favorite movie. I was born in 1993 but I remember up until long as I can remember that I’ve always wanted to see Jaws and I was 17 or 18 was when I watched half of it and I really enjoyed the parts that I watched at the time and then the following year I got Jaws for Christmas and that was when I finally got to see the whole movie and remembering thinking that it was one of the greatest that I ever seen and then ever since seeing Jaws I’ve became a huge fan of Jaws and I would try to watch the Jaws every year in the summer.

As you know the original Camp Crystal Lake was here, Chucky is from Hackensack, and finally, Haddonfield, Illinois is actually based on Haddonfield here in New Jersey because that's where the other writer from the original _Halloween_ was from. Damnit, it's getting to the point now that I get bummed when I hear you say "And with that being said..." because I know the video has come to a close. Your channel is the ONLY one I automatically "Like" videos on as soon as I start them because I enjoy them so much! It's always such a pleasure when I see you have a new video out because I know I’ll like it and don’t want to forget to give you the like. This was a cool story, thanks for sharing the history with us! I hope you two are enjoying life! You really seem to be (probably a good thing I don't see the BTS details on how much work you put into giving us such great content). Can't wait for you to get back to my neck of the woods and do another Creature Features episode, they're always fun. Happy trails!

This was awesome and amazing guys I remember watching jaws and I don't ever want to get in any body of water bc I think a shark 🦈 will sneak you and get me. No thanks I will stay out of the water but it's sad that lil boy and man lost their lives and you would never think a shark would come inna river or a creek if there is access to ocean...ty for sharing bc I enjoyed this video and all your videos you guys show. I loved Jessica and the turtles and her sneak you dance on turtles so cute girl...thanks Michael and Jessica Grimmlife 💖.... Have a great day!! Happy Halloween 🎃👻!!!

Kudos to you both for another top notch video. Ive been infatuated with Jaws since the 70s. Obviously back then I was scared shitless. Jaws has become of of my top 5 movies of all time and, up until this video, had no clue there was inspiration behind the movie. Universal Studios had an attraction I think after Jaws 2 was released. Maybe 1978? Great work guys..thanks for the video!🐢

My experience with seeing Jaws for the first time was similar. I was watching it late at night and the next day we had a family picnic at a reservoir. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with the water. Lol

I remember reading this story in a copy of the Readers Digest years ago. I still have it. Thanks for your video. I was always amazed that a shark would swim upstream in a freshwater creek. Poor child and young man. God bless their souls.

Nice! I was unaware of the 1916 New Jersey attacks until sometime in the 90s. Have since read several books on it, and it is fascinating stuff. Good on you for covering it in your usual fine fashion. I believe Charles Bruder was the second victim of the shark on the Jersey shore.

Hi GrimmLife! This was awesome! I always knew "Jaws" was inspired by a true story but never knew the full story--til now, Thanx to Michael and Jessica for taking us to Matawan, NJ and showing us the details. You guys Rock! Stay safe. Peace and Happy Halloween!

Jaws wasn't inspired by this story. Peter Benchley wrote the novel based on a massive Great White Shark that was caught in 1964, and he was writing about people who lived in a beach town. He combined the two, and we ended up with Jaws. He said himself in 2001 that the 1916 shark attacks didn't inspire him to write Jaws.

As a New Jersey native growing up me and my grandmother would always watch jaws…and the sequels before social media she would tell me it was a bull shark that had attacked the people in north jersey and as a younger man I wasn’t sure what she was trying to tell me. ….because we were just watching a movie….and here we are….things happen…

I know about this case .i saw tje documentary on it long time ago. My mom read the " jaws " story in her readers digest collection. I looked at the picture on it and ask my mom about it. " What's this about" i asked. She said it's about a shark. I said what happens. She said it attacked people and got away. So when jaws came out , she didn't want me or my sister to see it.

Used to fish in Matawan creek below the Old Bridge dam. Saw seals come up there along with the herring run. That's likely why the shark was there.
