In October 1920, a group of 30 people from around the Pecket Well area met at the Robin Hood Inn before undertaking a journey in a Charabanc to watch a sporting game of Knur and Spell in Colne. Heading over the moors of Cock Hill they were descending the twisting roads of Oxenhope, the brakes failed, and the Charabanc crashed through a wall. 5 of the passengers were killed. They were all buried at Wainsgate Cemetery.
