Crazy to think that there are still three of those vehicles just sitting there, now long buried. Imagine if you had been in a plane or something and you came across one them half buried or something.

Which ones? There were four, three are in museums and one fell into a crevasse in the 1960s.

There are many vehicles, planes and huts buried in Antarctica since this expedition. And we won't talk about the used equipment the Navy used to drive out on the ice at McMurdo and let fall through ice. The 20 ton sled that the Seabees towed onto the ice and attached JATO bottles to and lit them off was kind of a fun idea. I wonder how far it got? To be fair the Navy was very good at retrieving C130's that had crashed when it was feasible.

Great story telling but the basis of it isn't true. The 1st person to reach the south pole & role into scot base by vehicle was none other than Sir Edmund Hillary using Massey Ferguson Tractors. He was the one who was driving ahead laying markers that you scarcely mention & he was the first to arrive at Scot base not fuchs.

Yup. What an idiotic video. How do you make a video about the Trans Antarctic Expedition without talking about Edmund Hillary?! Mike must be of British origins. They are eternally bitter that a Kiwi and a Norwegian did it first.

Not true the expedition was a crossing of the pole not a journey to the pole

the expedition was not about going to the pole but about a crossing with the first real attempt to measure global warming taking ice cores, Sir Ed was under the command of Fuchs and went against orders and made a dash for the pole and ignored orders to wait at the depot for the main expedition after sir ed had flown in laying food depots for the main expedition.

D700 was the last of the depots stocked by Hillary’s party, and from here he sent a message to Fuchs advising the party would now attempt to reach the South Pole. The Ross Sea Committee advised Hillary he was not to travel further than D700 and separately Fuchs also asked Hillary to abandon his journey from D700 to the Pole. But Sir Ed wanting fame and glory made a dash for the pole against all orders from the expedition leader. The exhibition was about a crossing of the South Pole and not a journey to the pole.

I see from comments further down that you have a parental connection to the story. So do I. It was my father who sent the supposedly "ambiguous" telegram to Hillary about permission to proceed to the pole. The plan all along was that if Hillary had fulfilled all his obligations to lay the depots for Fuchs and he had sufficient fuel he would proceed to the pole. Fuchs was way behind schedule, so Ed and his team were the first to reach the pole overland since Scott's party, which rather got up the some what aristocratic Fuch's nose. The ensuing diplomatic row was a storm in a teacup when you look back now - but in some quarters it still seems to matter.

How do they overheat in those climates. And who filmed this lol
@BeaverCreekSnowcatServices6 ай бұрын
The radiator fins get plugged with snow stopping the air movement across the core and the heat transfer. despite the fridged temps the engine can't dissipate the heat through the block, hoses, ECT. I've had my truck start to get hot when driving in blizzard conditions.
