The secret of Bob Massie's 'swing' was that he was basically an outswing bowler who changed his bowling action to bowl inswingers. Once England worked this out and away from conditions as helpful as those that prevailed at Lords in '72, Massie was a busted flush. He never threatened to run through sides in a test match again

Ian Chappell “last time England had a good side been on the slide since”. England won the Ashes 3:0 in 1977 then 5:1 in 1978/9, then 3:1 in 1981, 3:1 in 1985 and 2:1 in 1986

@@jugheadsrulecorrect. They were rarely competitive against the West Indies, as nobody was, and had South Africa played then I don't think the English would have beaten them either.

God Australians moan - “dudded” because a pitch wasn’t prepared for their own bowlers.

A great series with many top class, actually legendary players involved. To this day I am convinced that Australia would have won that series if they had picked Bill Lawry for that tour. As for the 4th test...... the poms got smart for once and prepared a "special" sort of track - the sort of thing that Aussies do all the time 😀.
