I’ve always loved how their whole body of work is ridiculously intertextual and self-referential. So self-aware, and so intricate. The world of The 1975 is like a collection of films by an auteur director, or an iconic book series, or a very detailed video game franchise. Brilliant.

Absolutely. As someone that lives near Kasnas City, MO, I was over the moon to see they would be playing in Independence, MO in December. I will absolutely be going. I have never seen them live but they are one of the few live acts that I'm addicted to watching and listening to their big concerts throughout the years. I haven't been to any big concert since 2013 I believe. So I am really pumped to see them get to perform a lot of material from the new album and NOACF, since they didn't get to complete their tour for that album due to the pandemic. I have a feeling it will be an epic and euphoric experience much like this new single which is just my favorite kind of the 1975. They are one of the few things of any kind that give me a huge natural endorphin boost. I listen to The 1975 and my depression and anxiety seems to evaporate for some time. They have really meant a lot to me over the last four years. I've really been going through some things and they are such a wonderful depression suppressant. Can't even explain why. I liked them as early back as the self titled debut LP. But I really coming back to them a little while after I like it when you sleep came out. That album has really become an important part of my life since then. It's easily my favorite alternative/pop album of all the 2010s. Then remembering the whole role out for Brief Inquiry and that album truly didn't disappoint when it came out, even though it was a major departure from the first two full length studio albums. Still love Notes too, and I think if it weren't for the pandemic that album would've really grown in public opinion and appreciation. It was so bold and unafraid to be what they wanted it to be. I'm hoping Being Funny in a Foreign Language will be a product of quality over quantity. I can't wait for it. It comes out four days after my birthday, and it could really be exactly the album that I (we all) really need right now in this moment of time. Much love to The 1975. Truly special modern band who are so singular, yet create a nostalgic sensation without pandering and being generic genre rip offs. I hope they continue on forever as long as they are feeling inspired by the music and the creative process. We need to appreciate this moment because we are witnessing something special and I hope even more people start paying attention, especially over here in the States. They are truly special and are also great at finding other outside talent.

I'm your biggest fan from Russia and since the beginning of this outrageous war I was unable to listen to any new music because it was all blocked from us. No streaming services, no new music videos, nothing. So many young people feel helpless and deeply depressed and this inability to listen to music only adds up to it. Thank you for not cutting us off. For me personally this music is a distant breath of fresh air.

This whole music video and song are both just great. I've always known the 1975 to be a bit nostalgic for the past, curious about the present, and a little dreadful about the future in their art. This definitely feels very nostalgic, but there's a sense of realism that feels new. Barely anything is filtered like it has been with their previous albums, or rather it is filtered in this old school glamor (see the set design) but you can see and sense the pain (one prominent point is where the couple is fighting while Matty's on a spinning stage), making everything feel a bit more grounded. I actually really love it, you can see the duality between their filtered fun and the pain they see.

I absolutely love that they did almost no closeups for this music video in its old-school aspect ratio. It’s like they’re saying everything onscreen is exactly what they want us to see, whether it’s the background actors, props, blocking, composition, you name it.
