I legitimately couldn't love matty anymore right now if I tried. Have loved the 1975 since they first come out. And have followed them since. They seem to get better as a new album is released. I am obsessed with his acoustic laid back stuff more nowadays though. So happy to have stumbled upon this. Fantastic!

@@PC-ww4hw what i get from it is that it's these kids being introduced to a new way of thought and not being able to grasp it, but wanting to the whole song feels like it's from the perspective of being homosexual in a faith that condemns it; but more importantly, it presents exactly HOW one can become trapped in their faith that way the end of the chorus, to me, feels like it's the kids responding directly to somebody explaining this new, non-theological way of thinking, by saying: 'if that's where we actually go when we die, not the kingdom of heaven, but instead we return to the soil and become a tree... can i please get to be the leaves?' it's bittersweet it's sweet because they recognize that, in this new way of thought where they can be gay freely, they'd want to be in the sun finally but bitter because they can only understand this thought through a theological mindset of literally becoming the tree, and that means they fail to grasp it fully, as if the song is showing how they are fundamentally incapable of conceptualizing a world in which it's okay for them to be gay

@Raleigh Anderson people can still have a faith towards their religion but know they may not be 'perfect' in gods eyes. If you believe in Christianity but still have homosexual feelings that doesn't change the fact you still believe in that religion, you can't just erase that. That's kind of what this song is about, the irony of still having faith and love for Jesus even though you're sinning.
@RyannBarton4 жыл бұрын
@Raleigh Anderson if I went to church from age 5-18 and was a christian but then found out I liked guys and acted on that feeling i'd still be a christian but wouldn't go to heaven based on the religion. It's that simple. You can be a gay christian as you can't choose your sexuality but you can ignore acting on it to get into heaven.
@RyannBarton4 жыл бұрын
@Raleigh Anderson You do realise that you don't have to get into heaven to be a christian right? That isn't the sole purpose of life. You're speaking as if heaven is the only reason to practice religion. Someone can be a gay christian and not go to heaven if that's what they want. You can't tell someone they're not a christian because of their sexuality. There are thousands of gay people who practice Christianity.
@RyannBarton4 жыл бұрын
@Raleigh Anderson omg you're obviously not fluent in english because nothing is getting through to you. End of the day you're ignorant when it comes to Christianity. Even priests/pastors welcome gay people into their church because they understand a lot more than you do quite clearly. You can be gay and a christian it's factual. You think if you can't get into heaven then you're not a christian which is wrong, learn what being a christian is first.

I fucking cried to this. It’s like matty read my mind. Growing up a catholic I was always taught that lgbt+ relationships were deamed invalid in the eyes of Jesus, and my whole life I convinced myself I was only into girls. Then came Along this boy who’s name shall remain anonymous. I remember how deeply in love I was at the first sight. Around the same time I had found feeling for a girl as well. I was like fuck I’m bisexual. Fast forward some 5 months and I was basically forcefully outed. My mom took my phone one night and said that if I didn’t tell her what was wrong I wouldn’t get it back. I played it off like nothing was wrong for bout 15 mins. After that I started to cry. I then looked up at my parents and said that I was bi. My dad didn’t even look at me. He went downstairs and stayed there for about half an hour. Meanwhile my mom cried as well. She kept saying how I must be confused and didn’t know what I wanted, when clearly that wasn’t the case. My dad didn’t speak to me for days, him being the most catholic in our family. My mom kept asking me how I knew, and me scared never wanted to say anything, as The aforementioned boy was in a class I didn’t want to get taken away by my mom. So I played it off for a few months saying oh mom you’re right it’s a phase. One day I was heading out to a group trip sort of thing where the boy was as well ( this was a journalism competition, as I write and draw for my newspaper at my school). She said to not let him get to me as I’m confused and don’t know what I want. I waited for my dad to leave and I said really mom? I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you again. I’m bi. She looked st me and asked: so you like boys and girls? And I said yes. It’s been a few months since all of this, and ABIIOR really helped me out at the time. My relationship with my dad is still pretty neutral, though he still believes it’s a phase. God bless the 1975 and god bless this song. If you’ve read this whole shpeal, thank you.
