Matt doesn't need to play his guitar. It is there merely to make him awesome. Actually, it's probably a comfort thing. I'm a singer/guitarist in my band but, even on songs where I play guitar very little/not at all I like having my guitar as I'm more familiar with it than my voice so it makes it easier for me.
