i just did a frame cut video series on a an old beverage truck. i showed it from start to finish. im not a pro by any means but it came out good. you can see how i lined up the two frames, how i did the splice joint, the outside double frame and the inside frame liner. not saying it is the best or the only way to do it...just the way i did it. hope you find something useful in the videos. if you have any questions email me "j.c.smithprojects@gmail.com" love the visual aid drawings! very impressive.

Big plans Zane, Major undertaking. Make sure you plate the inside of frame where you join it. The outer doubler frame addition will then have more to bolt to. Gonna be a cool truck when you finish it. On the stuck engine, pull the plugs first, might be hydro-locked. Put the truck in fourth and rock it, might break loose. Thanks for sharing.

I used to work for the International dealer here in Louisiana and I've done this job before. I think the hardest part will be driveshaft length. We were fortunate to have a person in our shop that was very good at building driveshafts. We'd measure out the shaft and he'd build it. It was always right on the money! However, it might be easier to just swap out the frames. The advantages of this is NO cutting or alignment worries, which are always a hassle anyway. Swapping bodies and drivetrain, as well as the engine, may take more time, but is way easier than all of the cutting and alignment worries you'll deal with in the long run. There is a strength advantage as well. An uncut frame is generally stronger than a cut and welded frame. I'm also a new subscriber and am enjoying the work you're doing on this old truck to bring it back to life. I binged this entire series about this truck and really enjoy this type of KZbin content.

A 391 and a 361 are quite different from a 390 or 360. The way to tell a 391. from anything else is; there are 2 extra exhaust manifold bolts near the center ports. The 391 also has 2 thermostats. There are some internal differences too.

Gonna be a huge undertaking to change all of that but you can handle it ....would be a good idea to plate the inside of chassis as well better to be safe than sorry ....

Heck yeah buddy almost 5k subs!! I hope you keep growing and build some more bad ass ol fords! Need to do a 78/79 bronco. I've owed 6 in my 35 years, shooting myself in the foot because I dont have any of them anymore
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
You had 6? That's awesome! :) I would like to run across one here pretty soon. I seen one a while back that had dana 70's front and rear. I guess they were older military axles. It was a beast. With a 460 too :)
@levikelley18424 жыл бұрын
@@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE yeah I got my first when I was 15. Had a 351m and a c6 auto. 35" swampers and cut off exhaust lol. Welded the spider gears front and rear. It was my huntin truck. Since then I've had a bunch. My biggest street legal one was a 78 with a built 427, granny low 4spd, 44" cut boggers, 4.56 posi rear open front. In the perfect circumstances, I could lift the front a lil bit In 4lo. It's the only full size truck I've had that would float, I've had a few toyotas and jeeps that would but not a bronco

@@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE I live in central Florida so there is plenty of swamps around. Sad thing is these days a 1ton on 44s ain't nothing. If you aren't running 2 1/2 tons and v treads you ain't running with the big dogs. I miss the good ol days. That yellow truck should perform well for you. As long as your drivetrain holds up, you should be good. What tires do you plan on running?
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
@@levikelley1842 that's true lol. Everything inside now has v-tread tires. I've got some unimog tires to throw on this truck 🙂👍

I had a 1959 Ford F700 fire truck that was in great shape with low mileage. Wanted to take the fire body off and put on a flatbed with ramps or a rollback but sold it all when I needed to buy a vehicle in 2012. Wish I had gone through with the project now 😔
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
I hear you there. I've had to sell stuff before to buy a daily driver. There's plenty of old trucks out there though 🙂👍 I see it as you can always run across something more cool 😉

Other than a couple of J-hook chains the stinger on the roll back is pretty much complete. It was never intended to be a wheel lift type stinger. It was for towing junk cars not nice cars. You just put that round pipe up against the bumper and used a couple of j-hook chains to hook it up. Real low tech and fine for junk cars or vehicles with bumpers that can deal with it.

Is it possible just to use the truck frame from the rollback and move all the parts from the yellow truck over. That would be far better than cutting the frame in my opinion. They are both f600 the possibility is pretty strong.
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
That's true. Only problem is how time consuming that would be. I'd have to pull the engine, transmission, transfer case, wiring etc. The way I'm doing it, I may actually have it done before too long 🙂👍 thanks for the view and kind comment

I had a 74 F600 with the 361 or 361 FT (ford truck) motor, I'm pretty sure it's just like the other motors, just heavy duty, I'm not sure if the 360 and 391 are tall deck motors. Mine had a ramp truck body, but registration and insurance in CT was ridiculous and I couldn't afford to register it

Thanks for the view and kind comment Stephen :) It could very well be a Holmes bed. I'll have to dig around a bit more when I can to find out. Take care and be safe out there :)

Zane, subscribed! Like your explanation and the way you do videos... Very laid back and a great change from a lot who are obnoxious, keep it the same sir! One question... Will going to the 4x4 setup change the height of the rollback bed, and if different, does that present any problems with geometry for the bed as it rolls on and off the frame?
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Kevin. I truly appreciate that :) As for the geometry, I'm not 100% sure at the moment. I would guess it will change to an extent. Hopefully it's not enough to really affect it. We shall see :)

It would. Badass to put the yellow cab, engine, and axles under this one and make it a tandem rear axle, which can be easy with Rockwell axles
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
That would be sweet! 😃👍 thanks for the view

@@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE I dont think I explained it well enough though. Keep the roll back frame intact and move the cab and axles and suspension from the yellow truck to the roll back. And then move the engine. I believe the 360/390 and 391 share the same bell housing pattern but may be wrong on that so swapping in the 391 shouldn't be too hard.
