I’m a heavy truck mechanic. I hate cutting u bolts too. Too dangerous and they don’t pay me enough. What I do: heat up the nuts until cherry red and remove them with my 3/4” drive impact. Sometimes my 1/2” will remove them. Then, I heat up the “u” part of the bolt until it’s cherry red. And then straighten the u bolt until it will come out of it slot. Believe it or not, heat it up enough, it’s as flexible as a spaghetti noodle. Love your channel and be safe brother!

May 29th, 2020 Hi Zane! Up here in Quebec Canada, all the F600s I have seen through the years . folks just cut off the U bolts. They are replaced by two pieces of 3/4 inch, plate, about 2 inches wide, drilled out for 3/4 course threaded rod stock, with nuts, and lock washers. both ends. The length, of the plates is up to the installer. this set up works great to hold on any piece of heavy machinery to the trucks frame! Always put hard wood between the frame of the truck, and the frame of the platform, or machine! TORGUE? GIVE HER A GOOD SHOT, WITH A 3/4 DRIVE IMPACT, WHERE THE THREADED RODS STRETCH ABOUT A 1/4 INCH. That is plenty tight ! Minimum 4 clamp assemblies, of course, six or eight if needed! I have never seen eight, but it all depends on if you are building the Brooklin bridge! I use a marine gas tank, with a quick mount holder I built with a mig, to slap on to bare frames, and or, I put the tank on the rear and secure it down with a crank strap for use around the property! Zane , I assume you are going to have to cut the frames, and join the two trucks. check with DOT just to be sure you are up to date if any changes in the regs were made, behind your back! take nothing for granted ! Better still, write them a letter and get the answer in writing! Remember it is your time and money which is at risk! when it comes to propellor shafts, have the right specialty shop do it and balance it! And if in doubt, have a professional from that shop visit the truck when it is ready for measurements, and let them determine the right length ! Be sure they include that service in the price of the work, because if there is a mistake or issue, the whole shaft is at risk , again! Remember the frame must be fish plated inside and out with 1/2 inch thick steel, plates, and bolted with grade eight bolt and nuts! AT THE JOINT, AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE, WITH OUT FAIL ! REGARDLESS OF HOW EXCELLENT THE WELDING QUALITY IS! EVEN IF THIS WHAT I AM TELLING YOU IS NOT, OFFICIALLY STATED, LET ME TELL YOU FOLLOW WHAT I SAY. IF THAT FRAME EVER LETS GO, AND PEOPLE ARE HURT OR KILLED, IF YOU DO NOT DO AS I SAY, THE LAWYERS FOR THE OTHER SIDE, WILL SUE YOU TO THE POINT YOU WILL NEVER GET OVER IT! I DO NOT GIVE LEGAL ADVICE, BUT THIS IS HOW ALL THE PROS UP HERE IN QUEBEC DO IT! REMEMBER, IF THE FRONT FRAME ON THE TRUCK IS 100% FINE AS IS, WITH THE WINCH? IT IS PROBABLY OK. IT WAS ESPECIALLY WHEN HEAVY SNOW PLOW PUSH FRAMES WERE INSTALLED ON THEM, THAT SERIOUS REINFORCEMENT WAS NEEDED. SORRY FOR SOUNDING LIKE A BROKEN RECORD! TAKE CARE KEN ZAKAIB. kennethzakaib607@gmail.com

You dont have to apologize one bit! 🙂👍 you're no broken record my friend. I appreciate the information. I've used mower tanks before, but the one I use is on another project right now 😂.
