I ride a sweet one with the original flame tank paint job AND the original AMF decals (that almost everyone peeled off in disgust). It's pretty much original, apart from the pipes and an S&S carb. (I also added bags, a carrier, and a windshield for long trips.) I bought it in north-central Vancouver island in 1994 as a barn find, with less than 2K miles on it, under three inches of dust. Love at first sight -- though I had to put in a lot of effort and $$$ to get it like new again after sitting unused for so long. I've put a TON of happy miles on it, coast to coast (Canada) and top to bottom (Main to Key West) several times. I'm an old fart now, but still ride it regularly, and will never sell it. I'm in the Daytona area now, and it always attracts a small crowd of old timers when it's parked on Main St during Bikeweek or Biketoberfest. I just happened across your video as I was searching "FXWG wiring" on YT, as I'm about to do a substantial teardown to replace the wiring harnesses end-to-end. At 45 years of age, I'm seeing more than a few electrical glitches, so it's time the old girl got completely new wiring.

I love my 85 FXWG. That EVO is stock and staying that way. Reliable as hell.

Wow Bartels is still around. I had Bartels bell tip slip-ons on my 95 Electric Glide Standard. Loved the look and the sound!

Yup! We've just celebrated 40 years. Bill still runs it with Ron.

Wish I could see Jay Springsteen ride his Bartel’s xr750 one more time. One of my favorite childhood memories.

Oh wow! We have a lot of Jay memorabilia scattered around the store. Do you have any photos you can share with me so I can share with Bill and Ron Bartels?

Yes sir I do. I’ll be on the lookout. Will be in touch!

I have a 1983 FXWG. Mikuni VM Carb, Sifton 440T cam. Need to put it back together.

Nice bike, you can tell the FXWG by the back brake pedal. I've had my 80-80 since 1990, far from stock

Thanks for commenting! Any way you can share a photo so I can show the team here at Bartels' Harley-Davidson?

Local HD stealership doesn't even welcome my '68 Shovel or '50 Pan in their parking lot!

We would. But we aren't a "stealership".

@@talk_to_ianI appreciate that you would welcome pans, shovels, and hopefully evos in your lot. If I get the opportunity to ride out west, I will have to stop and visit.

@@fmagalhaes1521 because of Bill and Ron, we are still connected with the old school guys. Bill is getting on a bit and is more of an emeritus role now, but Ron knows a lot of people. If you visit, we will welcome you with open arms.
