I had a Bill Blass 1981 after owning a 74 Mark, then later owning a 93 Mark 8. Albeit the 81 only had a 302 engine, and was a heavy car...it outclassed everything on the road in those days. Took mine cross-country in comfort and style the likes you don't see nowadays. Man I miss it and note the values of these are only going to climb

Thanks for the posting, man in 1999 I owned a1980 Lincoln Continental Design Series was a Givenchy one. Got it for $150 in the police impound in Pacoima. I wish I didn't have to get rid of it and restore it . A truly beatiful car.

Thank you for making this video. Only the few of us who owned this car can really understand just how special it was. Sadly..what Lincoln makes now is nothing more than expensive Fords. The Lincoln brand that we all knew and loved is now dead. Long live the old survivors!

I always thought this Mark VI was a better size than the Mark V , my neighbor had one and told me it was really too big to drive around especially shopping center parking lots, For some reason the Lincoln designers just kept making them bigger as the 70s rolled along, but out of all fairness the El Dorado got huge in the 70's too .
@dmartinez42 жыл бұрын
Hello, the Mark VI is reduced in size compared to the Mark V, which is really long. It's true what you say about the 1970s with the theme of the Marks' length. A time that will not return.

@@dmartinez4 big Ford products, unlike Cadillacs and Buick Electra, didn't handle very well and move easily around tighter parking lots. The Eldorado's with FWD, do that very well, in the early 70s I bought a 70 Riviera, nice handling car, but in the late 70s my brother sold me his 73 Toronado, which was bigger than the Riviera and made a tighter u turn in front of my house than the Riviera, it actually handled quite amazingly well

@@califdad4 Both my 1984 Lincoln Town Car and 1982 Lincoln Mark VI handled wonderfully for their size. I could fit them in any parking space. They also had the softest and most comfortable luxury ride of their time..even better than a Rolls Royce. That was the one big failure of Cadillac..the ride did not feel as luxurious or soft as that of Lincoln..which I have since read was done on purpose by GM to resemble a harder European ride. I now drive a MB S Class..but I still miss my wonderful Lincoln ride.

@@Nightbird. Cadillac as a whole handled much better than the Lincoln, that ride came to great cost of the handling of the car. The DeVilles rode just as nice, I have rode in and driven both, and I will tell you that the Cadillac in the 90s had a lot more power than the Lincoln's

@@califdad4 I never met anyone who purchased a Lincoln or Cadillac for their handling. If you wanted good handling..that's what BMW and MB were for. Cadillac buyers tended to be those who liked to shine and show off. Lincoln buyers tended to be more reserved and elegant. And while you are correct Cadillac's had more power..they also had more engine and electronics failures..which is why limo companies generally chose Lincoln's for their vehicles. Pluses and minuses for both brands.

I had this brochure when the mark VI first came out, I was only 19. Never liked how they looked, too boxy. I bought a used 1975 Mark IV in September, 1979. Gorgeous car but mechanically a POS!

Hello. The Mark IV as the Tbird of those days are my favorites, the design is the best. The Mark VI is one of my favorites since I grew up with it.

Why do people feel the need to put annoying music on video this music has nothing to do with car or 1980 just terrible elevator music
@Quad8track5 жыл бұрын
Not even elevator music. Elevator music is pleasant. This is just fake blues you usually hear at an amusement park or county fair. Late 79, early 1980 disco/funk and/or early smooth jazz would have made sense because those who listened to that when new were the target buyers.

I disagree. The Mark VI was just as beautiful as the Mark V, and much more dependable and better built. It was also larger and more spacious than the V, and had a better engine and components. The interior was also more ergonomic (if that's possible in these cars) and more modern too boot with it's cutting edge electronics for the time. Not to mention the more vast designer series such as Pucci, Cartier, Blass, Givenchy, Sig. Series. The V's were great, but the VI's were awesome. I Loved mine!
