Thing is, I guess, at that price? Can you even expect QC really? Considering where it comes from, this is just cheap plastic crap to try and get one-up on the hundreds of different ceramic cartridge based players that advertise the same features at the same price point.... at least it has a magnetic AT3600L cartridge which is very good, but the arm, bearings and counterweight assembly, and lid packing are really only worth a facepalm... But at this price, can you really expect better? And any form of QC? When you're looking at the AT-LP60X and above, then yes, QC is expected, and mostly does it's job - some dodgy ones do get through, but at least AT are more particular about their products, and have a reputation to maintain, but who are "One-By One" and their "Rock Pigeon"?

It seems more like the counterweight screw that fits on the spiral groove of the back of the tonearm was missing and that's why it won't fit properly. Considering the cost of the Michael Jackson Thriller album which goes for nearly $30 at most retailers, and the fact that it is included as a free bonus makes the actual cost of the turntable come in at around $29. @johncoops68972 жыл бұрын
No, a linear volume control causes all of the "action" to occur at the minimum settings. A log pot is used to even it out so 50% loudness occurs at midpoint, rather than at 10% rotation. This probably uses a linear pot to send a voltage signal to an electronic volume control IC, since that is the way most modern circuits are configured. The reason is that it allows the cheapest single gang linear pot to be used on a stereo system, or even 2.1 channel or even surround sound as well.

The problem with volume is the exact opposite of it being linear. Volume potentiometers are supposed to be logarithmic, because that's how our ears and our brains process volume, but this one is linear and that's why it's weird.

this
@eDoc20203 жыл бұрын
A linear potentiometer would result in the volume changes being more substantial at the low end. My guess here is that instead of attenuating the signal directly the knob only sends a control voltage to the amplifier chip. If the amplifier is designed to take a linear control signal instead of a 'corrected' one then a double 'correction' like we hear here could result.

@@eDoc2020 - yes, correct. It probably uses a single gang linear pot and a digital volume control chip.

Was looking for this. I’ve seen cheap guitars with the same issue on their tone and/or volume pots which can be easily fixed for a little soldering and a couple cheap replacement parts. It has a 'low cleaning factor', like the 4.5 HP vacuum cleaner that runs off a 15 Amp 120 volt wall receptacle...(1 horsepower is 746 Watts, you do the math.)

I understand your points but for the avarage non-serious listener seems good product for the price. Sounded good to my ears.

Sadly, in 2023 it doesn’t look like this is available anymore. But for 90 bucks, you can get a 4.4 star Popsky with Bluetooth and even headphone jack. I’m glad to see there are reasonably priced entries for the hobby. My record store sells vintage clearance LPs for 50 cents each if you buy 10. Have fun, and don’t bankrupt yourself.

seems like a lot of these cheap amazon products come with those little cards offering free extras in the hopes of a good review

It's not hard to hear the irregular speed when it's playing.

I remember I bought acouple no name stereo's with a record player and built-in 8-track player in 1976. Until I was introduced to real stereo equipment then I got a technics turntable a kenwood receiver and kenwood speakers. Still have those kenwood speakers 777D's. Hopefully people who buy these kind of units move up as they gain more experience like I did. Luckily for me I was in the air force and was exposed to quality stereo equipment!!

For the price the sound isn't bad actually. It's quite good. I want to suggest that you try modding by changing the original motor with the better quality ones you showed in your previous Teac cassette deck video but since you're planning to return the turntable so probably there's no need to do it. Great video 👍🏻

i love that REAL fake wood. ^_^ The extra goodies are actually pretty neat. Like that Cartridge adjusting chart.

For that price i think is top of a class and is a lot better than the ordinary turntables people used to have all the previous years for home music listening.Nowadays is impossible to find turntables of the known hi-fi brands and the other solution is to buy a hi-end class equipment which turns to be impossible also.

Hahaha. I actually got a rock pigeon commercial on this video

I think it is fine for the price. Obviously an audiophile would never buy a cheap turntable to begin with. But a casual user might be satisfied especially with the built in speakers. I paid more just for my dust cover for my Technics.

I kinda dig your Arthur Murray's album. Haven't been able to find a copy for myself : (

8:03 Is that another trimmer pot above your knuckle ? When you were plaing that first song with direct feed, I noticed the platter was slightly lob-sided, which generates the wow on the strobe dots. 22:25 The wires must be wrong on the cartridge.

Huh -- it could be. So maybe that's the trimmer for 33⅓ RPM.

A rock pigeon is the kind of bird used in a Flintstones turntable, right?

The speed variations are amazing! :-P Not bad looking however could be better. Remove the plastic and adding some alu will improve the looks.

Marshall Crenshaw also had a song called "Mary Anne" back in the '80s that should've been a hit.

Reversing the channels won't affect the fidelity. It will simply reverse the "soundstage." But if you're accustomed to listening to a particular record, it WOULD seem weird.

I see this as a good turntable for someone who wants to get into records, but has never used one before. If they enjoy records and want to upgrade at a later date, at least the turntable won't have ruined them, seeing as how it does use a decent cartridge and stylus. If they don't, well, it was only $60, so......

18:00 a long-lost Olympic Hit song, wonder if Lance Armstrong knew ‘em? Only song by The Winning Lion, maybe they were one-song wonders, such as Cycle V, Combo Audio, Lloyd Allen, and so on. Like a light version of Europe’s big hit, “The Final Countdown,” more geared toward NASA.

So it's one that looked quite promising at first, but in the end, I wouldn't swap my 30+ years old Technics SL-B31 to this... that AT-LP60 looks like a great deal though.
