@emmanuelisanda14495 жыл бұрын
The only thing stopping Kipchoge from breaking the 2hr mark is the slow pace makers. Never in history did we have a man so strong that his pacers were pulling him behind. If you watch closely, the controlled pace on the first half is good but it is in the second half that Kipchoge really thrives. If we gonna have the pacesetters, make sure they are at least keeping the 4:34 or better. Kipchoge can best that by himself in the second half.
@TotalRunningProductions5 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Isanda Agree 100%. It’s pretty remarkable how well he does over the 2nd half.
@zstepohznrebrenhoirer75 жыл бұрын
The reason he dis so well during the 2nd half in London is because his pace in the 1st half was very slightly conservative. Had he run more even paced, maybe he could have nipped 20 seconds off his time, but not much more and definitely not enough to run under 2 hours.

Kipchoge's 2018 Berlin form he could break 2h in wind blocked project as Nike. London 2019 was great and Ethiopians ran outstanding times because they enjoyed behind "everlasting pacemaker". It's hard to put things to perspective but one of the greatest runs of all is Sammy Wanjiru's 2008 Olympic Marathon which has done in heat, no pacemaker and bad air quality as well, also if remember he didn't have these modern shoes either? what else kid clocked 2.06 all alone. Kipchoge is still greatest but in major city marathons his limit is around 2.01:00 flat in greatest weather conditions.

@jeffrey9543 No man can force them for more on marathon as you see how much Mo wanted win but placing 5th with his unrealistic pace. It's about perfect pacing and 2018 Berlin was good job but not perfect which comes to pacing. Kipchoge has the capability of breaking two hours, and I think he can do it in a 'legitimate' marathon such as Berlin. But it will take two things: 1) perfect weather, and 2) perfect pacers. The weather in Monza for the Breaking2 attempt was not ideal; mainly it was too humid. For sub-2, there will need to be very low humidity, temperatures no higher than 55F, and very little wind. In addition, and I think even more importantly, the pacers will need to do their jobs perfectly. I have see far too many marathons where the pacers go out too fast, quit early, pace unevenly, or don't shield the runners well enough. For a successful attempt, the 'longest' pacers will need to be shielded by the 'short' pacers through the half-marathon, then the 30K pacer (or two) needs to shield the 35K pacer. Ideally there would even be another pacer (a world top-5 marathoner) who then drives through 40K, leaving Kipchoge alone for only the last 2 kilometers. I think this is possible with enough planning, practice, and of course sponsorship money to hire the best pacers. Yes you can say this was already the case in Monza, but as I mentioned the weather was not perfect for that attempt. I hope to see this within a few years before Kipchoge ages beyond his prime, because I don't think there is anyone else on the horizon with the talent, dedication, and mindset to achieve a sub-2.

Michael Wardain ran the Big Sur marathon less than a week ago so I can't see him doing it. Going by Strava, Tyler Andrews looks like he's training more for a standard marathon with a lot of short runs during the week and a long run of about 15+ miles at the weekend. Jim Walmsley runs 15, 20 and 30 miles daily at altitude in the mountains, so this flat course will be no problem to him. But will he be able to sustain the pace needed for a sub 6hr 100k? I think he can, so my money is on Jim.

Well as much as I like improvements in running shoe techonolgy, it is not natural to have a spring plate in your shoe. I think the 4%'s and now Next%'s should have been banned from racing but because so many people have them now, it will be really hard to do that. I do belive we should all return to racing in flats with no plates. (I mentioned 4%'s because they are the most known shoe with a plate, there are also other companies that started making them now: Hoka, Brooks, Sketchers...)

Another interesting question might be where the two hours or future marathon records will fall. The main reason why Berlin and London produce such great times is the high class "selection" of the elite field. Imagine the London-Marathon field participating in Dubai (absolutely flat and almost comletely straight course) with perfect whether conditions.
