Thanks for the video, I remembered all but 1 of them (and admittedly it's because I got distracted), I really like your advice because i'm a visual learner and always take steps to visualize what I'm trying to remember, this just takes it a step further. Still seems challenging but maybe this trick will be useful later on down the line.

I had to pause a second to recall "fan," but most of them came instantaneously. I just discovered memory palaces while reading "Moonwalking with Einstein" by Josh Foer, and I was sad when I finished the book last night, because it was such a thrilling experience going on this journey with him. He broke the US record for cards just a few years ago, but you've completely decimated his record, and even made the US a world-class competitor. I'm really curious to know what your system is for cards and numbers. Is it P.A.O.? To what depth? Anyway, thanks!

Hi Aaron, thanks. Moonwalking is a great book; it's how I first heard of the memory world myself. I've collected some basic writings about my memory sports systems on our website here: mullenmemory.com/alex-mullen-memory-sports

Mullen Memory, thanks so much for that link; it contains answers to so many of my questions! I've spent that past 24 hours considering how much I want to invest myself into practicing and becoming proficient with a complex system, and I think I'm just going to start simple. I seriously doubt I'll ever compete; but we'll see how my motivation evolves over the coming weeks lol. Thanks again!!

This is absolutely amazing! I'd often heard about the memory Palace but didn't really understand how to use it. Your video's made it crystal clear by using real spaces. I've been amazed checking how easy is to remember when having a frog witted in front of you or a candle burning!! I still wonder how to memorise large texts, foreign language vocabulary or a set of cards or numbers but I'm gonna dive into your videos and share this find with my kid. Thank you very much! Subscribed and like from Barcelona, Spain.

I have extremely bad short-term memory even though I am only 30. Normally with 20 words like this, I am only able to memorize around 6 words and as I approach the others, I will gradually forget the ones in front. Surprisingly, this technique allowed me to recall 16 of them without even needing to wait for the video to reflash those images. Many thanks for sharing this amazing technique!

I told myself a story and remembered all 20 words that way. A rabbit ran into a house looking for his carrot. He found it on a rug in the living room. Next to the carrot, he found some papers from a Rapunzel picture book. On the papers, he saw image of Rapunzel using an electric fan in her castle. She fantasized about leaving and actually had made a rope using her hair as a concept she thought about. She came to the window and looked up at the star before making the jump. Just then, as she looked down, she discovered a van made out entirely of sharps, and she got scared. The rabbit then looked around and saw a frog in the form of an ornament hanging on the Christmas tree nearby. The frog was compact and cute. Below the Christmas tree, there was a candle sitting on some fake grass carpet. Just then, rabbit heard a loud noise and he saw a panda walking up the stairs. The panda saw him and paused, just right at the fork. Panda seemed to have a fever, and there was mud on his feet. This panda though, looked more like a robot than a real one. Tying all these ideas with characters from Disney and Grimm (rabbit from alice in wonderland, rapunzel, princess kisses the frog, kungfu panda) makes it super fun. I'll try this castle memory method as well.

A week ago, I taught this to my 6 years old sister and she memorized 20 words in an instant. She still knew the order of the words that I have given to her but she haven't realize it yet. I am not in rush but how could I make her interested about this stuffs?
@nicelypenn8 жыл бұрын
You've done half of what you need to do, at least from what you've described. You've taught her how to do this. But now you need to create the idea in her head that what she is doing is a good and fun thing to do. To accomplish this, give her positive reinforcement whenever she succeeds. Whenever she does not, do not criticize or punish harshly. Just suggest that she can do better the next time she tries and with more practice. The afore conditioning will have set in her subconscious mind that what she is doing will receive social validation. Her being a human being necessitates that this social validation is a good thing. Her believing that it is a good thing will encourage more frequent using of it, especially as she gets older and has the fundamentals so much so that she can do it with ease. But also teach her not to show off or look down on other people in such a way that would lead them to disliking her because of how she acts. Such interaction might lead to a negative disposition toward the mnemonic technique and she might therefore avoid it. Essentially, instill the idea that it is a good thing to do this and she will naturally gravitate toward using it. Expose her to new ways of using the techniques, perhaps for school. She will learn its usefulness and start applying it to other things.

holy crap it actually worked first try. I was wondering, how could you use this method to remember very abstract things? Simple example, L'Hôpital's rule in calculus. It seems so abstract that it's hard to tie into reality in any meaningful way. Thank you.

a giant CARROT has a RUG over it, inside the carrot are PAPERS being blown by a FAN. the carrot is pointing to a CASTLE. the castle has a ROPE attached to it tied to a CONCEPT of a STAR. Meanwhile a SHARP VAN drives by and has a plastic FROG statue on it with an ORNAMENT on the frog statue and the frogs eyes look like two Cs with a COMPACT CANDLE in each eye. There is also a sick PANDA with a FEVER because its eating GRASS with a FORK. The poor Panda slips into MUD, but a ROBOT rescues it. Thanks, this is a fun method. Now if only I could remember how to spell the words.
