If a vehicle gets even remotely airborne, it can be catastrophic at any speed. Whether it be driver error, or faulty vehicle, or both. I once got airborne in a 2003 4 door Hyundai accent. The road I was on, it was well known you could get airborne over a certain speed, and there was an junction at that particular spot. But only a two way stop sign for the other road. The speed limit was 50km/h, at 70 km/h you could get several inches off the road. I was young, maybe 19 (33 now) at the time, and a huge speed daredevil. I was travelling topped out at 175 km/h (governed speed) I got so much air, I cleared the entire intersection. When I hit the ground again, the car bottomed out so hard, even wearing a seatbelt, my head hit the roof. I had ripped the entire exhaust off from the manifold. All four struts blew out, cracked two rims almost all the way through. All body panels shifted back nearly 4 inches. I was able to limp it back home (less than a couple km away) and it was a complete write off. Other than a massive goose egg on my head, and a splitting headache, I was perfectly fine. If it weren't for that experience I would probably still be driving like a dickhead, or likely dead. I'm thankful for that lesson, because not everyone gets to learn from a mistake that drastic.

If he’d driven that road at freeway speeds beforehand I’d imagine he didn’t even feel the bumps. Crazy how exponential the car’s reaction is to different surfaces at speed.
@coreygreen4756 Жыл бұрын
No bruh it doesn’t really work like that, a bump big enough to cause the suspension to react would be felt at any speed. Unless of course the driver is paying zero attention. The reality is the guy obviously has zero clue what he is doing, number one sign being lack of a roll cage, anyone with actual car knowledge isn’t taking their lambo up to 180+ without a roll cage.
@Zonda1996 Жыл бұрын
@@coreygreen4756 I based my statement off personal experience, though granted mine was comparing 70km/h vs. 160+ (so like 45mph vs 100 or so, so not really ‘properly’ high speeds) on a road that felt very slightly bumpy at the lower end and quite unstable on the higher end. I’d say I was paying a decent amount of attention in both scenarios too. Also you’d be surprised how many customers of workshops (especially in the drag racing world) don’t want cages to keep their car as a street car without getting into trouble, though I’d personally advocate for a cage for nearly any car that receives hard driving. Those things save lives 100%
@rt2255 Жыл бұрын

Yeah, unfortunately the price of a few track days can add up to the price of a used car pretty quickly.
