Nhl is the reason we don't get best on best hockey. They are the only major league which does not want to cooperate with IIHF if they would we would get best on best every year. This would grow hockey worldwide ,not just get more money from countries where hockey already is massive.

Went to NA vs Finland with my buddy. We had seat beside these two Swedes who were broke after buying tickets to every game of the tournament, hotels, food, etc, ahaha. Such a freaking cool experience

For a few olympics now russia has 'technically' had a team but it has represented them under different name as Russia itself isnt allowed, wouldn't it be better to want that instead of the actual Russia??

It was a fun tournament, wouldn't mind to see the same format return, including the U23 and Europe Leftovers team. I'm a bit disappointed you didn't give much credit to the Europe team, most people didn't even expect them to make it out of the group stage and yet they made the finals and were a very tough opponent to Team Canada. Shot totals in the finals were only 71-67 for Canada, had it not been for Price, Team Europe could've well won the whole thing

Yes and no, of course every player wants to represent his country but Team Europe gave the possibility to legendary players like Kopitar, Draisaitl, Chara, Josi to play for actually win an international tournament

A lot of this seems quite biased. For one, the best doesnt always only mean the NHL, just like you mentioned the Soviet Union in the beginning, these players werent NHL superstars. So I would argue having NHL players at the upcoming Olympics is THE best on best tournament, because it includes all players from ALL leagues. And also, making up teams automatically destroys the whole point of international tournaments. Team Europe or Team NA U23? Which country should feel the pride that they are representing them? I understand the point, so you get more NHL players. But this just seemed insulting. And now its just 4 nations. It seems.. not enough. Why not make up teams now? Make a team made out of Russians, just dont call it Russia. And as a slovak, if you must, make Team Czechoslovakia and give them retro jerseys, only that could work, thats another contender right there.

No Czech had own team, but Czech was weak that year. Pastrnak was still pretty new. They just had Krejci. I think though Czech has gotten better since.

Cannot believe thay do not play it in the classic Canada Cup format. It should be EVERY fourth year with ONLY six teams. Six teams playing each other once and then the best four teams goes to the semifinals. And the final is best of 3. Easy.

Making a Team North America just cheapened it imo. Made it feel like another goofy all star game. It should’ve been countries only. How much pride can you have and play for when you’re an American, but because of your age and some arbitrary structure, you’re playing for a continent, against your own country? Love the idea of countries competing against each. (Winter Olympics, World Championships) if they want a 3rd best on best, just bring back the World Cup of hockey and no gimmicky teams. The 4 nations is a good idea (edit: except Russia should be included. Screw the deep state globalists who want constant conflict, provocation and outright war).
