Thank you for a lovely series to date! I hope your publishing and good humour continues. The Western isles are truly beautiful (given the right weather) and it's an area I've always wanted to sail. A voyage there is certainly on my sailing bucket list. Best wishes and stay safe, regards Peter

Absolutely amazing! What a truly heart racing experience you have had. Thank you for sharing your journey. If you would be so kind...could you tell approximately how far you walked on the scholars path? Thanks again!

Not far. We did the section from the anchorage at Head of Loch Stockinish (Aird Mhighe) to Greosabhagh, which is about 3M, then we cam back over the hill Grosa Cleit (183m high) and Loch Arigh Iain Oig, so probably about 5.5M in total. The Scholars path is easy under foot and one of the picturesque paths I have walked. The hill and loch was difficult under foot, but atmospheric and would have had great views in better conditions. I do wonder if we did the best bit, because if not, I would go out of my way to do the rest.

Not another yacht in sight, no crowded anchorages, majestic scenery. I always find the ruined roofless houses sad relics of hard lives led. I hope we get a chance to do a bit of sailing there this year.

Hi, stumbled across your earlier episodes and am enjoying your channel. Beautifully filmed! I’m keen to understand how you animate your track using mapout - I’ve been a registered mapout user for years, primarily for cycle touring and hiking, but also sail solo on my restored Elizabethan 29. Do you screen record drawing a new track and then play back (iPad or PC) - I’ve attempted this on an iPad but don’t obtain the same results. Thx

Hi Stuart. Glad you liked videos and maps. The way I do the maps is to do 2 screen shots. One with route on it. One without. In the video editor, I do a slide transition from one to other, in the direction of travel. The gives the illusion that the route is being drawn. My editor allows me to vary the length of the slide transition, which gives the speed of the “drawing”. The limitation is that I can only go in one direction using this method. If I need to double back, I need to do it in multiple pairs, edited together.

@@Spearax excellent, thanks so much for replying! I’ve been using Davinci Resolve and will go ahead and experiment with this technique. Keep the videos coming . . .

The little shelter building is an ancient pict house, OBVIOUSLY. (Don't try to tell me any different, you'll shatter my overly romanticised ideas)

Watching and enjoying your travels in my home waters while my own boat lies trapped in the yard ashore due to this pesky virus . I’ve been struck by just what a perfect configuration for the West of Scotland those 1970’s style “doghouse” centre cockpit heavy cruisers / motor sailers are . You’re out in the fresh air but sheltered and dry in your deep covered cuddy - far better than being perched out on the stern of a modern Med style cruiser soaking wet and miserable . It’s a shame this style of boat is not really produced any more . It seems to be Med style wide cockpits or very expensive Sirius / Nauticat style deck saloon boats that are way out of most budgets .

I have to agree with everything you said. I often think that Spearax is like an open-topped car with a soft top. Personally, I wouldn’t go touring in the UK with an open-topped car without a soft top. Maybe I am just soft!
