Creative Thinking: Processes, Strategies, Skills and Errors
The Torrance Center is proud to present their 2019 Torrance Lecturer, Dr. Michael Mumford. In his talk, Dr. Mumford will review the evidence accrued for one model of creative thinking processes. The role of expertise in process execution will be examined along with the specific strategies that give rise to more effective process execution. The key skills contributing to effective execution of these processes will be described along with the errors that act to undermine effective process execution. The implications of these observations for the development and assessment of creative potential will be discussed.
Dr Michael D. Mumford is the George Lynn Cross Distinguished Research Professor of Psychology at the University of Oklahoma where he directs the Center for Applied Social Research. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Georgia in 1983 in the fields of industrial and organizational psychology and psychometrics. Dr Mumford has served as senior editor of The Leadership Quarterly and sits on the editorial boards of the Creativity Research Journal, the Journal of Creative Behavior, the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts, and the International Journal of Creativity and Problem Solving among other publications.
