I swear, I started ascending from my seat when Sonic and Shadow dapped each other up in outer space, with the chaos emeralds spiralling around them as lightning and dust showered the moon all while Live and Learn (The song that made me learn guitar as a kid) played in the background. That shit was raw asf and I can’t wait to see what Sonic 4 does. Hyper Sonic or Super Neo Metal Sonic?

One thing I really hope we get in a future game is at the end of a game we get the usual Sonic power up to become Super Sonic, instead of Shadow going super he just brings out his Doom Wings and says some badass line to sonic that goes something like "Keep your power, I don't need it"

It almost seemed like Crash Bandicoot was looking to surpass Sonic the Hedgehog during the late 2010’s with N. Sane Trilogy giving way to revivals of classic IPs and CTR Nitro-Fuelled outpaced Team Sonic Racing in everything despite the black eye of MTX. Even Spyro the Dragon was making his comeback while Sonic seemed to be completely in the dumps with how the 2010’s were for him... Then It’s About Time happened where it came out at a bad time for obvious reasons, Activision making the brilliant decision of disbanding Vicarious Visions who brought back Crash Bandicoot into the spotlight to basically be fed to Blizzard which already had been under controversy including a toxic workspace and to feed the CoD machine, Spyro was basically forced back into being second banana to someone else again with the lack of a Spyro 4 thanks to IAT’s performance, Toys For Bob misunderstanding the point when they made Crash 4, Crash On the Run being discontinued, the whole live service fiasco that is Crash Team Rumble, the cancellation of Crash Bandicoot 5 which would have Skylander’ed Spyro for a third time since RT’s release, now the remaster/remake trend has become as much of a problem for the industry as the 2000’s horror movie remakes plague and how Activision have completely screwed the pooch on the momentum they had from 2017-2019 when Sonic was arguably at his absolute lowest point including getting a Crash Bandicoot cartoon for Amazon Prime cancelled with how difficult they are. As of this writing, the only new concrete Crash Bandicoot anything we’ve had since Rumble is Nitro-Fuelled, a 2019 game being on GamePass. While Activision was botching the momentum between 2020 and 2024, Sega seemingly got its act together with Sonic seemingly after the people behind the 2020 movie actually swallowed their pride and ego to go redesign Movie Sonic from being another Hollyweird’s timeless fixation on uglyfying/over-detailing an animated character into something off putting in the name of “muh realism” to a pleasing design they should have had day one and against all odds, it made lots of moolah. Lots and lots of moolah that Paramount realised they just might have their own “MCU” in their lap and little did we know at the time, Transformers’ days as their box office golden child were numbered. Barring the disaster of Sonic Colors Ultimate (The final nail in the coffin for the Meta Era), Sonic 2 happened and made even more moolah than thought possible. Sonic Frontiers drops and like Steve Austin giving HBK the Stunner at WM 14, it birthed a new era from the absolute lows of the previous era (Sonic Forces) to the highs of the new (Shadow Generations) era. Just like WWF going from the New Gen lows of 1995 to the Attitude Era highs of 2000 and 2001. It remains to be seen how 2025-2029 will pan out for Sonic but I doubt you could sink any lower than the 2010’s by virtue of how much chaos was going on in that period from the failure of Sonic Boom to the whole Ken Penders Lawsuit Saga that ultimately killed a long-running comic series in the end. It’s easier to list things that did go right like Sonic Mania bringing back Mighty, Ray and Fang after so long or the rediscovery of a Sega World Sonic statue in the forest mountains of Mie and subsequent restoration.

I've heard some people say that Super Sonic is cool, but when he's in every game, he gets kind of lame. I disagree. Super Sonic is always awesome and a great finale. I do like how the Storybook games gave unique forms, though. Not every game needs Super Sonic, but something like Forces that was supposed to be so big should've had Super Sonic.

As a reader of the 90s UK only comic “Sonic the comic” I’ve always liked their unique take on Super sonic… that it’s a kind of Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde situation with Supersonic being a bit like a crazed demon.

That Super Sonic Edit is exactly why I play sonic games. I play for super sonic moments. for ziping around at hyper speed. that is the True sonic experience. I lost my shit in frountiers. What I love about super sonic is how your are invincible and the songs always feel as if its there to hype you to beat the boss. not be scared of it but take that fucker down. SUPER SONIC STYLE.

I have one gripe with Movie Super Sonic and Super Shadow. I don't even know if it is a problem objectively, but I prefer how the games handle it: Sonic in the games (or in media like Sonic X) would never transform out of a desire for revenge. It is implied the Emeralds themselves would not allow it. Additionally, Shadow transforming before his character arc was complete also is not accurate. The purpose of him achieving the transformation for the first time was to symbolize him coming to terms with himself. Only then did he power up physically, to go along with him powering up mentally. The same was the case for Blaze in Rush, Shadow again in Shadow '05, even Chip in Unleashed. There has been an effort to portray the Emeralds as something that is NOT simply "the mcguffins we gotta collect to power up to advance the plot." I have always liked that immensely and is the reason why Super forms to me are more special than Super Saiyans. Of course, this does not mean the movies' depiction is bad inherently. I am just pointing out that it is missing a crucial nuance from the source material, be it a creative choice or not.

I totally get what you’re saying! I remember how they spoke in Sonic Adventure about how Sonic draws on the positive power of the emeralds, while Chaos drew on the negative. I think you’re in that the critical nuance is missing, but I feel that’s outright established with this universe’s set of emeralds - given Eggman was able to super transform himself with them in Movie 2. So I guess that positive/negative balance just isn’t a thing. I don’t mind it per say, but that’s a very good point that I haven’t seen anyone else talk about!

Theoretically, could the Supreme/End Titan beat Dark Gaia? If basic Super Sonic can just about beat Dark Gaia, and Super Sonic needed new energy to harness to upgrade him to beat The End/Supreme, shouldn't that mean that the Titan is stronger than Dark Gaia? I mean the contrast between super sonic an d auper mario couldn't me more differ... Super mario very quickly was demoted to Fire flower mario... I mean still one of the best power ups Mario has because of how common yet always powerful it is and can be compared to the vast majority of Marios powerups... So yeah sonmic frionteers trying the fire flower methiod which let's be honest super sonic was always caplbe of just limitred by Saga for some reason... Like they easly could have let him be a 100% scert unlock character like Luigi is now... So you can just enjory enjoy him in every aspact of the game and him being OP does not matter as you 100%ed the game so repolayblity should be the devs only concne at that point not balance...

According to the writer Ian Flynn on his podcast, he DID pitch bringing back Hyper Sonic for Sonic Frontiers’s final boss but SEGA refused lmao. So we can’t say there haven’t been attempts 😂
