That aspect is officially over. I know Toyota and Lexus makes reliable vehicles no arguing that. But unfortunately with them now going turbo their long term reliability reputation will tank. Simply adding a Toyota or Lexus logo to a turbo engine or even a bmw engine doesn’t automatically increase reliability and decrease mechanical complexity
@MercOne3 жыл бұрын
That's kinda sad considering they used to do a lot of things so well. Reliability is not the end all of luxury car ownership and it isn't working for Lexus anymore in all segments. The GS was reliable, but old and uncompetitive, thus being cancelled. The LS doesn't sell anywhere near what it used to because it just doesn't move the needle anymore, with the German cars killing it outside of reliability. Lexus needs more modern features, engines and infotainment in their sedans. What you're not getting is that is a road test/evaluation, not a long term reliability test.

Both the LS and the Germans will last a long time when properly maintained. The difference is the cost is significantly higher in the German brands since they stay at or ahead of the technological curve vs the Japanese way of tried and true. For this reason LS owners tend to keep their cars for longer since there's typically nothing of significance wrong with the vehicle whereas there's a lot more likely to break or malfunction among the Germans that no one wants (rich or not) especially after the factory warranty runs out.

People don't understand the whole point. Toyota/ Lexus makes small changes overtime thats the whole point which equals reliability. Good review on the car and one I'd have (money no object) over the German rivals. Today's buyers on cars sometimes miss the plot. For a car like Lexus, you buy it for reliability, durability, build quality, and luxury over performance and technology. IMHO I don't think you can have all those in a car. The German manufacturers tried it relentlessly and the servicing costs and quality complaints about computer and software issues I hear from friends and family owning various marks over the years tells me that overcomplicating cars and cramming it with too much tech just doesn't work because it makes servicing more complex and more expensive to accomplish.

I love tech, but you don't get reliability by changing stuff all the time. If money were no object, of course I'd want the S-Class over this, but it's arguably in a different class with a starting price 30% more than than a base LS. This is where Genesis can really make an impact with people that aren't buying a badge; looking at the $74,000 G90 with much better tech, more modern looks, seemingly similar quality, and an optional V8.

I can't believe it: I wholly agree with Sofyan's review! LOL! I LOVE the design of the LS. It is so daring against the boring A8, the played out 7-Series, and the NOW anonymously-styled W223 S-Class(my 2017 S63 will likely be my last Benz). It is very unique. Unfortunately, as we've seen with Toyota's TNGA-platformed cars, the interior packaging is seriously lacking, particularly rear seat accommodations. Pop into any of the Big 3 Germans and they're downright cavernous by comparison, despite having the same 205-207" of length. What is most depressing about the LS is the lack of tech that is demanded on a $100K car. And please...spare me the reliability argument. The graphics, lack of wireless Carplay, no uplevel turbo V8(PLEASE drop the amazing 5.0 in it!) or more powerful V6, and just an overall feeling of lack compared to its German and Korean competitive set(yes, the G90 Ultimate is better buy than this) is a miss for this car. It is not good when a 2014 W222 S550 offers a greater luxury environment than a car that came out 4 years later.

Just returned my 2018 Mercedes S450 lease and picked up a 2021 Mercedes S580. Before I returned the lease I went and check out the Lexus LS500 but tbh at the price Lexus is asking it comes no where near MB if we're talking about Luxurious, ride quality, techs, infotainment, rear seat entertainment...etc. You can talk about reliability all day but I lease the MB so I could careless about it. Lexus needs to step it up with a total new design otherwise it will not get anyone attention at all. The price of the LS that the dealer is asking put it near the S500 but even when comparing to the S500 it's no where near. Like I said, you can talk all day about reliability but in my 3 years that I leased the MB S450 I never had a problem, only service every 5K miles and brake tire like normal. Toyota's vision of durability, quality, and reliability is the reason they can't move too fast with time. It is a value in their DNAs that they are not going to deviate from. Yes, they make more boring and less techy cars, but I have seen far fewer angry Lexus owners who complain about reliability issues than I have seen from Jag, BMW, Audi, and even Benz owners. There is something to be said about the overall ownership experience. As a Lexus LS430 owner, however, I think the biggest mistake Lexus made was to aim for a sportier car in LS500. Ditching the V8 was a huge mistake.
@alvinsimba7343 жыл бұрын
Ditching V8 is one thing, but I agree with you on so many things when it comes to toyota and lexus products in general. From someone who owns 2 toyota products, 2005 matrix with 2020 corolla LE, their tech is not going to wow you but their safety features with their known reliability, durability is what made their name hence why I'm driving them. In everyday life I'm happy to drive the products and the only time I will even drive different competition is when I rent for like a week or two from a rental company while on vacation. Speaking from experience I don't go to mechanics other than routine maintenance. If people buy these products excepting tech and speed they are in the wrong department and will be disappointed. More tech means more problems on a long term and also a drop big time in resale value if one plans to sell anyways. With toyota and lexus brands once bought especially new, with good financial planning expect a minimum of 10 plus years with minimal maintenance and thats where it wins.
@markmatlok65743 жыл бұрын
Sofyan doesn’t like lexus/toyota cars, Lexus cars are made to be reliable and the tech is not the main focus of the car, they make gradual changes over time. La500 is a luxury car , it will never be a sport car, 0-60 is not that important to the buyers, it feels and looks better in person,. Reviewing a car for a day or two is different than owning a car for 20 years and not having problem with it, numbers tell the story, Toyota/lexus is still number one in sales and reliability 💪
