Since the GTS badge was first applied to Porsche's race-winning 904 Carrera in 1964, the nameplate has always represented a filtered focus on driving dynamics. GTS versions of the 911 Carrera and other street-legal, two-door Porsches would follow. But in 2007, Porsche unveiled a GTS model Cayenne - a vehicle that itself was a controversial divergence from classic Porsches - to the chagrin of brand purists. Enthusiasts eventually embraced the Cayenne as a "necessary evil" before fully adopting the model as one of the most engaging SUVs on sale. The GTS was even easier to stomach with its V8 engine and mature style. The second generation Cayenne GTS improved upon the vehicle's driving dynamics, but relinquished two of its cylinders. Fans bemoaned the engine's altered character - and Porsche listened.
The 2021 Cayenne GTS marks the return of the V8, now aided by a pair of turbochargers to deliver 453 horsepower. Slotting between the V6-powered Cayenne S and 541-horsepower Cayenne Turbo, the GTS doesn't flash big numbers, but emphasizes driving engagement. With a starting price of $108K, the GTS nudges against more powerful rivals like the BMW X5 M, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 S, and Maserati Levante GTS. Great job on this Miles! Its a very impressive SUV. Like the 911, its such a good all around product. I definitely think the GTS is the pick of the range. A little surprised they hid that V8 engine like its a four cylinder. Not a fan of the front clip or the interior on this. Interior is just so dark and plain even with all those ridiculous options. Engine sounds fantastic. That's how you do a V8 exhaust

A GLE580 might be a closer comparison 483/516 0-60 4.9 4L biturbo V8. It’s faster/more powerful than GLE53, slots right under GLE63, but no coupe version that I’m aware of.

Great vid. I have a question. I have porsche 911 and now I'm thinking of getting a car with more seats. I'm thinking Macan S(2022), Cayenne coupe S, and Panamera Sport Turisumo. Which one would you recommend and why? Thanks!

The Macan drives more like the 718 Cayman and Boxster on stilts - super nimble handling, but tight cabin. The Cayenne or Panamera Sport Turismo is going to have the longer wheelbase ride refinement you're used to in your 911. If you don't need the ride height, I'm a big proponent of the Panamera ST. Looks awesome, drives well, and has a lower center of gravity than the Cayenne. I'd give the Cayenne and Panamera a drive to see if you like the seating position of one or the other better.

Great review as I await my GTS coupe with similar specs. My question is Im almost certainly going to have Porsche tune this car to get more out of the 4.8 V8. Would that hurt any of the driving dynamics for sake of more power?

The fact that Porsche increases the boost to get 541 hp out of the same engine in the Turbo S, you shouldn’t have any problems.
