Usually like to ride boards before I buy them for obvious reasons, but after seeing your review of the Stalefish I just sent it and bought one sight unseen. It was exactly what you said it would be and worked out great. When it came time to replace my daily driver this season I did the same thing; bought a '22 Mercury based completely on your review. Couldn't be happier with it, thanks for being a snowboarding oracle!

Great board and review. I love this board however did take a few days to get used to. Definitely torsionally stiffer out the box but will soften up slightly. One thing you didn’t mention is the base! These capita boards are so much faster than anything I’ve ridden. I’ve had the best Jones and Lib and they are nothing compared to this! You will be overtaking skiers on cat tracks! Best advise I got was keep it on edge for the first few days before trying to ride flat on base! Helps with the twitching

@TheJustinJ2 жыл бұрын
@@flashaxel youtube doesn't send the author a notification for replies on replies of comments. You should ask that question under a video by angry snowboarder on a video regarding board or boot sizing. I would say "Yes" to your question. But I'm still a noob, learning out of a fire hose. So don't listen to me cause I'm farther from expert as you can get, without being a fat skier kid on a pink leash. IMHO: Wider means less of chance of boot out when carving. It also means more surface area, so you can use a (slightly) shorter board for the same or similar float. Shorter boards tend to have lower inertia which can be good or bad, Good for tricks. Width can effect how easily it transitions edge to edge in a carve, and shorter is also less stable in carves, wider may be slightly worse when transitioning edge to edge, but i doubt if any beginner is going to notice a difference when your falling and cant carve in the first place. But each board has different specs, some wides are only 8-10mm wider than the regular which might be too narrow. Some normal boards are already very wide. - Go by your boot length, and maybe by the waist width of the board. Factoring in what your angles are, if you ride +30/-20 and a really wide stance like a Sumo, your feet will fit any board. See manufacturers labels for their board recommendation for your weight, they are usually right, or very close.

I was kinda worried that it might be too aggressive for me since all my previous boards are mostly rocker. I realized quickly that I should have picked this board up sooner! It's got pop for days or at least feels that way compared to the one lf and sawblade. It did feel a little hooky going slow like you said, but wasn't an issue because it just wants to go fast!

I've put 5 days on a 22/23 Mercury, and this thing definitely has the wildest range of feel depending on conditions, stance, and binding selection. At reference with Falcors, the "twitch" is dramatically reduced (doesn't completely disappear, but doesn't feel like it's going to kill you), the chatter is lessened (but still an issue), it's more stable, but it doesn't carve a trench as hard. With a narrower stance and Forces, the twitch is absolutely brutal (good luck on a cat track/flat basing), the underfoot chatter is exhausting (bottom of my feet beaten up), BUT this thing will absolutely rail a trench slow or fast. I'm really curious what a different base structure would do for this board, but even if you make the twitch completely disappear, the chatter will always be there. If you are hiking side/back country pow booters like Kevin Backstrom, I'm sure this board is unreal, but for us mere mortals riding groomers most of the time, this is a split personality chattery mess.

But this is also because I’ve only taken it out 2 times for under an hour each time after work. I haven’t been able to set my bindings up to it to the way I need them. Hey man. Thank you so much for your videos, this has been very helpful for me and i think i have found my new toy. Yesterday i got my Capita Scott Stevens + Union Contact stolen. Sad story i loved that board, but i am thinking of making a little change. So i wanted to ask you for a tip. I am considering buying Mercury this time. I would like to still be able to jib a bit, make some side hits, butter tricks and if there is a chance to chase powder i am definitely going to do that. If you could help me out a bit, id be very grateful. What would be the main difference between these 2 boards? I think that scott is a bit too soft, but i have to admit thanks to that i had a lot of fun too and it also let me go through bumpy terrain funky and easy. Which board would be better for powder and do you think Mercury can still be very playful and funny while doing some bullshit in the park? Or if there is any similar board you could reccomend, i am open to consider other options too. What bindings would fit with Mercury well? So far i have been riding softer bindings, because it felt like it lets me easier to get to the butters. I weight 70 Kg with 181 cm height. Have a good one and thank you again! Peace

You don't need a Mercury you probably just need an Indoor Survival if you go the Capita route.
@aggropa2 жыл бұрын
I've watched tons of your reviews. I originally wanted a Capita DOA, and then decided on the Super DOA based on my heavier weight (about 215 lbs), and my tendency to ride all mountain more than park. However, I'm not super skilled, and I want a board that can handle powder as well as my typical icy east coast conditions. I now think I am going to go with either 1). Capita Mercury or Mega Merc or 2). Bataleon Goliath or Goliath X Beyond Medals. Both seem similar, but I do like that the Bataleon has 3BT (triple base technology) which apparently can keep you from catching the edge on rails, and Sidekick which apparently helps it to float in powder. However, I am very open to either. I also ride a super old Lib Tech Dark Series 158cm, which I find hard to turn, and hard to navigate in tight spaces like backcountry and glades. Part of my problem might be the heavy weight of my board, and my lack of gym time. Also, I have size 11.5 boots, so I probably need a wide ish board. Which board do you think I should get, and which size do you think I should get? Thanks so much.
@AngrySnowboarder2 жыл бұрын
Ask yourself why you would buy a board that takes away edge hold on ice. If you have a good reason then the Bataleons are something to consider otherwise...

50 year old rad dad looking to replace my daily driver Arbor Element. I'm stuck between the Merc and the JMT or UMT. Any advice?
@thedude55103 жыл бұрын
@Manny Pellicer IMO I would definitely go with the JMT or the UMT because they both just offer a little more versatility plus a better base. Probably not leaps and bounds over the speed of the Mercury, but Jones boards are really fast. My theory on the "slow speed" hooky feeling could be Capita's Death Grip contact point doing its job just a little too well, especially probably while flat basing at slower speeds. Hence why he said it dissipates at higher speeds because you're most likely to be more on your edges while going fast. This is just my theory. To me it's a no brainer. Both Jones boards offer 3D spooning for better float in pow, better edge to edge initiations, and also offer extra contact point just like the Death Grip on Capita. Combo that with a faster base than the Capita, and a better price for the Mountain Twin. The Mercury is in the same price category as the Ultra Mountain Twin so I would steer you towards the Ultra Mountain Twin as being the best all around choice if you're comparing it towards The Mercury.
@thedude55103 жыл бұрын
I also feel that the Mercury would definitely be a downgrade for (rad dad riding style) from The Element. To me Capita boards are slightly less responsive, and somewhat sluggish edge to edge compared to Arbor. The feeling of System Camber is way more on par with what your two Jones choices have to offer.
