Decades ago, I got a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT when I was a young graduate student at Arizona State U. At the time, the truck was popular among recent college graduates due to fuel economy, easy of driving in city traffic, parking, moving from dorm to apartment, etc. I helped a lot of other college students move with that little truck. I also went far off-road in the remote mountainous dirt roads of Eastern AZ - it worked fine despite being a 2wd. It had everything manually controlled: roll-up windows, cassette player, stick shift, etc. There were no rear-view cameras, smart sensors, etc. I drove 319k miles on that little Ranger. Decades later, I returned to ASU as a PhD student (while working) in data science and artificial intelligence. I am a mechanical and software engineer. I bought a 2022 Ford Ranger Tremor to relive the "90s" - lol. I am very overwhelmed by the modern smart sensors, computerized control features, computer panel, blue tooth, rear-view cameras, etc. The anti-collision detection system is very effective. I also drove it up the mountain range again in Eastern AZ near Black River Canyon in elk and bear country. The Ranger Tremor drives great on those old rugged dirt roads built upon horseback trails of the 1800s. We listen to Clint Eastwood's "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" while traversing those rugged roads which can have rocks, sand, mud, or snow (depending on time of year and weather). The modern Ford Ranger Tremor is awesome. To me, it's not a "compact" truck. The modern "mid-size" trucks are actually comparable in dimensions to the "full-size" trucks of the 1990s. I expect disagreement on my opinion of the modern Ranger. I do respect the Toyota Tacoma's reputation and the Colorado ZR2's 4wd system. I wanted a ZR2 but it was out-of-stock due to chip parts. The Tacoma is too small for some people's seating comfort (as I understand it). In my case, the Tundra Pro would be a better fit, but the bigger trucks are harder to drive in crowded Phoenix traffic which frequently include very awkward parking spots. So, as for mid-size trucks, I could only find the Ford Ranger Tremor in transit. I looked at other comparable choices like the Canyon AT4 off-road-package, Colorado Trail Boss, etc. - all were unavailable. I put money down on the Ranger in February. I chose that because it well on the TFL in a competition between Tacoma, Jeep Rubicon, and Ranger Tremor up in Colorado's snowy Rocky Mountains. Those mid-size 4wd trucks are in high demand in the midst of a severe supply chain shortage. The modern Ranger is still a great commute vehicle in crowded Phoenix like it was in the 1990s. I relive those moments while listening to Nirvana, Toad Wet Sprocket, Seal, Spacehog, 311, Sting, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, etc. via the iPad and Bluetooth.

I bought 2021 ranger tremor xlt package and I love it! I get 24mpg on hwy and 22mpg in town..and it is a power house to haul and with 5000 lbs you don't even know it's back there..Ford built a great truck 🙂

Great video - The Ranger Tremor was my original choice, but then my order became a victim of the shortages (early 2021). When I started looking again, the F150 Tremor was just starting to come out... so I went waaaaay out of budget and got one of those! Definitely a cool truck- mpg is almost the same as the F150 Tremor ;)

So glad they came back with it wish Chevy will bring back the s10 although the old rangers and s10 are smaller trucks and doubt they’ll release a s10 ever again since the Colorado is the mid size competition to the newer rangers

I have a 2019 let me tell you the 2022 with tremor pack drives so much better. The ride is outstanding vs 2019 lariat in both. I just ordered a new 2022 lariat. The damper for tailgate is 35$ going to take the one off my old truck. Have the fuel map in my old one and will definitely put it on new one. The lariat only had the power folding mirrors.

These Rangers are "sweet spot" of the mid-sized truck lineup. The powerful, advanced & proven powertrain is smoothest & most capable in the class. This goofy reviewer has his own way of doin things. He calls OLD FAITHFUL the most advanced engine design in the class by far.. its Gen2- 2.3L TGDI. Hes hilarious! 😀 Too goofy an uninformed though for my tastes.

I was kind of digging it until you showed the A/C cluster and gear shifter area. That looks almost straight out of my '97 ranger that was $14k. What a turn off! They need to do a much better job in the higher trims.

ill agree the interior is kinda out dated, i own a 21 ford ranger and it still feels like im in my dads ford explorer.. but the offroading is amazing, hell iv launched my truck on all 4's over train tracks on concrete and it just ate that up, only miner squeaking noises do to breaks and other real hard pushes on offroad, yet no serious problem at all. really great midsixe truck.

2022 is not the best, every year they remove more and more and charge your more! Example is the hood struts, My 2021 XL model had hood struts, how does a 40k plus 2022 lariat not have those? Lmao

The taco has a horrible engine/tranny combo and no low end power!....I sold my POS 2019 Taco TRD OR 4x4 because the thing couldn't even get out of it's own way and the constant shifting was maddening!.....LOVE my 2021 Ranger Tremor Lariat......better powerplant & tranny, better tires from the factory, better payload & hauling......NO REGRETS!!.....Taco is living off of their reputation from Gen 2 (2005 -2015)...those were great but NOT the gen 3!!...

I've had both, check my channel for vids on both. For me it's a draw. I like the Tacoma styling and interior better, but I do miss the Ecoboost and better MPG, however I don't miss the 10 speed. I do find the Tacos 6 speed to lug and hold gears too much though. I love the composite bed on the Taco, but I miss the payload of the Ranger (500 lbs more). I miss the factory LED tail lights of the Ranger, but not the reflector halogen headlights (at least the Taco has projectors). I do love the sliding rear window on even the SR5 Taco, comes in handy. Also, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but even the SR5 Taco side mirrors are heated. Even XLT mirrors are not. I could go on and on. I feel like if you took the best qualities, you'd have an amazing midsize truck.
