I bought a pair of Salomon Synapse boots and correctly sized Defender bindings (basically the old Highlander). The boots fit snug to the point of being tight in those shadowfit heelcups but were actually really comfortable. Unfortunately there was excessive wear on the boot within a few days with the movement of the binding. I got in touch with Salomon and they replaced both boot and binding. I went with the Alibi Pro as a replacement and that thing feels a little like the Defender but let’s you drive more, is damp and feels bomber. Kudos to Salomon for the no dispute warranty claim, but it just goes to show how the shape of your ankle, width of your boots and heel cup all have to work together.

Nice review. In depth and lots to think about. I like how you flexed the highback on camera. Missed by other reviews / vids 👍

Shadow fit is great (for me, big fan of the Hologram). However, the boot fit with that heelcup is critical. If a pair of boots has too big a heel profile, you will feel that lateral pinch since the toe strap will push the boot in there and the heelcup will dig in. With Salomon boots the fit is perfect and they are very comfortable (obviously) but I have a pair of Burton Imperials for which it took about a couple days for that side pressure to disappear due to the break in of the boots. I also had a pair of Burton Swath which had a bigger heel profile and I couldn't ride more than a few laps before the pressure was excruciating (I do mean ridiculously painful). Rode those for a day and got rid of them. My recommendation is when you're buying/trying: bring your boots, strap in and spend a while in them to make sure so you don't regret them. They're great (if you're like me and like that riding feel/dynamic), when they fit your boot.

Picked these up on a summer sale. They work really well on a Libtech Retro ripper which already leans into that surfy feel. Thirty two Mullaire boots also feel great in them with not hot spots. Definitely an upgrade over the Burton Genesis bindings they replaced.

I will also say this: with the nature of the shadow fit, I was kinda doubtful that a stiffer highback was going to really be "felt". Your review sorta confirms that for me, thanks. Save your money, buy the holograms or district and ride more.

Would the Salomon Assassin be good fit to the Highlander? Or would the normal Districts be a better option? (The District Pro are sadly not an option).

They'll be fine.

Are these more laterally soft than the Vice?

From the heelcup they are.

In what sense are they comparable to the Katanas? I mean these two bindings are on the opposite ends of the scale for me.
@AngrySnowboarder3 жыл бұрын
They ride like a Katana but with a little more lateral flex.

Avran how do you compare shadow fit to K2’s tripod? Thanks
@AngrySnowboarder2 жыл бұрын
Shadowfit is more lateral play from the heel cup itself while Tripod is more lateral play from underneath the binding.
