I got sick of my single-range manual transmission making my XV Crosstrek a liability in the wilderness due to its paltry 15:1 crawl ratio, so I shelled out the money to get the dual-range 5-speed manual. [For context, the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness with the revised 4.444:1 axle ratio still yields an inadequate 14.3:1 crawl ratio paired to the Lineartronic HT-CVT, still worse than the single-range manual.] The only way to make a true off-road worthy Subaru is to do it yourself, containing at the bare minimum for any respectable level of capability: * skid plates for engine, transmission, rear differential, and fuel tank * rock rails "rock sliders" * dual-range manual transmission * locking rear differential * stronger-lockup viscous coupler for the center differential * clutch-type front LSD

I said ive never even hit a squirrel in this car so theres no way that the mount was broken after i purchased the car. They said that i cant prove that and i paid 400 to replace the mount. Then a few months later i heard a rsttling and found the brackey connecting the transmission to the exhaust was cracked in half. Had my neighbor weld it back on. As someone who owns an Onyx XT, I really don't seem the point in this. The "close ratio gears" is just a software change since it's still a CVT, Startex, Dual X Mode, full size spare, Turbo engine, 11.6in screen, and some rugged body cladding is already on the Onyx. This is literally just the road car with a bit more ride height. This really should've been a Manual with low gears and a locking diff if they really wanted to make this thing awesome for off-road.

I think this is a flop. Reasons: -.8" increase in ground clearance? -Still a CVT? -No locking differential -no dual range -$40k sticker price? -They chose the least owner modified model to do this with first. Why not the Crosstrek? I get they sell more outbacks but I see modified Crosstreks all the time. Modified Outbacks not so much The ONLY thing they did right was improve gearing.

I’m excited to see Subaru’s next generation of vehicles. I would like to see them try more in the hybrid direction or even all electric. Though I get Subaru is meant to appeal as a go anywhere vehicle, I feel the technology is slowly catching up to meet that expectation.
@WoodshavenPatriot3 жыл бұрын
These are off road adventure vehicles and electric options would be stupid. If you actually use as intended where do you charge in remote locations or out back woods camping?? Imagine jeep going that direction?
@MrBuildboy3 жыл бұрын
@@WoodshavenPatriot I get your point for that is true at least for now. The battery technology is improving and able to power vehicles farther. As far as being able to recharge in the middle of no where there is development in companies like Tesla to incorporate solar roof tops and improve the regenerative braking. Now there are multiple car makers joining in the revolution such as the new GM Hummer EV and Rivian which are vehicles designed to be rigid and go off road. Since you mentioned Jeep they have actually started to sell the Wrangler Rubicon 4XE plugin. It may not be all electric yet, but it’s heading it the right direction. Now it may take time for these vehicles to become more affordable, but as long as the industry keeps innovating and competing the technology will keep improving as well as become more affordable.

Gear ratios? I thought it was a CVT. Subaru all wheel drive system has not been shown to be as good as competitors torque vectoring systems in simple slip tests. I’ve been driving Subarus for quite a while now and was really hoping for non-cvt and an improved AWD system in this car.
