They're big, they're heavy. And its not like switching to a sedan would lose any room either - a 5 seater is a 5 seater. Why settle for 35-40 MPG in this vehicle if you can get 60 in a sedan?

I got a brand new 2022 RAV4 Hybrid. I've got 1,500 miles on it commuting to and from work. Here in Maine, if I use eco, stay 5 mph under the speed limit, and drive like my grandmother, I am lucky to get 32 mpg from my hybrid in January, February, and March. I went to the dealer today and they said, "Ohyea, you'll get 10 mpg more in the summer... if you don't use your air conditioning." I like the car, but don't expect to get any where near the stated mpg. It's better than the 22 mpg I was getting from my old Subaru Legacy, but my son gets better mileage from his non-hybrid Subaru Impreza.

In Toronto when it's -15 Celsius, my 2012 prius fuel economy routinely dips down between 32 mpg to 37mpg depending how aggressive I am with the heater. Luckily this kind of winter lasts only 2 months here, and even so, my 32mpg is more than what any gas car will get. Now that spring is coming around, my prius is hitting 46mpg. In dead of summer, the car will dip down to 40mpg or a bit less, again depending on how heavy you are with the AC.

Hi Redline - Did you say this XSE has 3 electric motors in addition to the petrol 2.5L motor? If that's correct, I understand there one electric motor at rear axle and one electric motor adjacent to the petrol motor - but where does the 3rd electric motor sit and what does it do? Is it simply a motor to recharge the battery? Does the LTD have 3 electric motors? Also, was this RAV 4 any quieter than the 2021 RAV4 and is it any softer ride? thanks
@Thissandthat3 жыл бұрын
Two electric motors upfront. The planetary gear set works as the transaxle with the two electric motors. The larger of the two motors is the drive motor and the smaller motor starts the gas engine, charges the battery, and moves the car when in reverse.

@johnhanselman63713 жыл бұрын
IMO: Inflation will make a drop in prices impossible. However, perhaps the government will offer tax incentives.
@lanceareadbhar3 жыл бұрын
If you can wait a few years, used car prices should come back to earth and you can get a used car with the trim that you'd prefer for hopefully a reasonable price. I wouldn't buy new unless you can afford it since all you are really buying is peace of mind that only you handled the car and didn't do anything stupid to it which is why buying a previously leased car makes sense since they were likely extra careful with the car since they didn't want to pay any additional fees. The only other reason to buy new is if you plan on keeping it for more than 10 years which most people don't do. I'm in the latter group so I would never tell people to never buy a new car, but it really is about 10 years before it makes sense financially and I'm sure others will argue with me that it never makes sense to buy new.
