I know you guys mentioned West Ham but for manager of the year I think David Moyes should get a shout out. Had a tough last season in the league but saw out a European trophy. Lost a key player in Rice and this season have beaten Chelsea, Arsenal (in the cup as well), UTD and Sp*rs (your 'big' teams). They've topped their group too in Europa and are currently 6th. And Bowen is playing great through the middle more recently so without a recognised out and out striker. Arsenal fan here.

Shocked that Moyes wasn't even considered for Manager of the Year.. granted, league performance wasn't great last year, but three seasons in a row in Europe, a European semi final followed by a European trophy the following year and consistently knocking on the doors of top 6 that's massive for West Ham and we've had supposedly world class managers who got nowhere near that at West Ham..

I rate Ancelotti, but one thing thrown at pep is he's never done anything at a club like Aberdeen.... Ancelotti while at Everton wasn't terrible but he wasn't anything special as far as I remember. It's the best recent example of a top class manager in that kind of situation. I'm not saying pep would win the league at Everton. Just that kind of achievement seems to be the only metric for some people when it comes to managerial greatness.
@hunsler10068 ай бұрын
@@NECinho I think mourinho at porto was more impressive but I get your point. Ancelotti's time at Everton isn't rated as highly as it should be, they were second at Christmas until the injuries hit, and he has the second highest win % of any of their managers since Howard Kendall (who had their most successful team). But there's things to be said about the different type of challenges of managing a top team.
@NECinho8 ай бұрын
@@hunsler1006 personally I think the pep thing is just thrown at him to discredit his achievements by people that aren't looking at things objectively. He started at Barca with the reserves, then took over the first team taking on one of the most high pressure jobs in football. From there he did well at bayern but didn't win the European cup and then turned a very good city team into the best team in the world. What's he supposed to do say, right well I don't want bayern or city because some bloke on the Internet thinks I should manage some mid table team in England or wherever? Ferguson, mourinho, pep, klopp, ancelotti all fantastic managers with success. For me pep's the best but it's just an opinion. You know the weird one for me is Zidane, three European cups as a manager *one league title but was that just right place right time? Is he one of the all time greats? Why is he not managing now? Personal choice. I guess. *Sorry two league titles.

For me, Pep can never be the Best Coach Ever until he coaches a team that isn’t the best funded in the league. Pep might’ve had influence in tactics, but if you watch Arteta, you’ll see that they have their limits when you can’t just buy more players if the ones you have don’t fit exactly. Ancelotti adapts his tactics to what he has, anyone can play like him. Any team can play like Klopp, you don’t need the best players in the world to do it, Klopp certainly didn’t at Dortmund and his first Liverpool team.

Seriously ONE nomination with a Brighton link, how much did you three drink over Christmas? Ferguson is at least an honourable mention for young player, De Zerbi should be a nomination for Manager/Coach and the same for Brighton as overachievers. A team which at the start of last season lost two key players and a few weeks later was raided by Chelsea for numerous members of staff. Despite that, in 2023 a manager new to the Premier League took the club to its highest ever finish and an FA Cup semi-final. In the summer, three key players were lost, followed by numerous short and long term injuries. Despite that, Brighton are in the top 8 and qualified for the next round of the Europa League with a game to spare. However, you nominate Everton, a club that has spent millions (admittedly badly, but that’s their fault) and were fortunate escape relegation (again). Yes, they’ve just had a good spell, but for crying out loud, this award supposedly takes into account an entire year. Absolutely embarrassing decision.

But over the grind of a season and the way we play he's probably not necessary or at least not number 1. I also can't go with Allison over ederson this year. I think Allison the better keeper (shot stopper) but ederson ahead of feet. Plus since March I'd say his shot stopping has been great. Probably our best player in these last few months too. Some great saves. Kept it respectable against Villa. It's a game of opinions though.
