During my most recent visit to Girona, I rode a rental Evo3 for a couple of days. The bike felt immediately faster than my own bike back home. It took me while to realize that the difference is mostly due to the environment. In Girona, the winds were around 5 km/h, which is typical for the area. Where I live, the typical wind speed is around 15 km/h and often around 20 km/h. I don't know what the typical wind speeds are in Cotswolds, but it could have a major impact on the perceived efficiency of a bike, as in my case. Anyway, thanks for the informative video, Arthur. You managed to fill some voids that other reviews have missed about the new bike.

@Millicente Жыл бұрын
There are cars more expensive than many peoples’ houses too. What’s your point?
@stu3232 Жыл бұрын
@@Millicente First of all you're comparing a super expensive car to an average house, whereas i'm comparing a high end bicycle to a high end motorcycle of far higher complexity with far more components. Totally different comparison. You're saying because there are expensive cars aimed at multi millionaire only buyers that a 15,000 bicycle aimed at regular consumers is justified? Do you know the percentage mark up on these bicycles in comparison to the mark up on a Ferrari or a Lamborghini?
@Millicente Жыл бұрын
@@stu3232 The cars are aimed at people who have the money. The bikes are aimed at people who have the money. You're silly if you think the 15,000 bike is aimed at "regular consumers." How rich you have to be to have that money is different but the principle is the same. Mark up percentage is unimportant because the point is there is one for much of the same reasons. Name brand, desired appeal and target market, marketing, research, materials, basic economics like cost and return along with supply and demand. The fact that one situation is a car and the other a bike is insignificant. Both are beyond what anyone needs for any "arverage" use cases. The point is that there are things that are "unnecessary" that are vastly more expensive than what is "necessary." The principle is the same or similar enough for both to be compared. Some things are simply for those that have the money, and for those that don't have that money, or can't spend that money for any reason, you don't buy them. It's not for you. Complaining that this reality shouldn't be the reality is stupid because it's a natural progression of economics that'll happen when people start having extra income and become willing to spend it on said items. Just like there's $20+ bottles of water that don't hydrate you more than $1 bottles of water, there's other luxuries that cost more than their basic value. If you want to complain, complain about the base price of bikes. That's for "normal" people in "normal" use cases. If an entry level alloy bike with claris or sora is costing 2,000 or more then complain that there's no decent, entry cost friendly, market, but complaining about the absolute top of the line model with the best they can offer attached is, in my eyes at least, narrow sighted.
@stu3232 Жыл бұрын
@@Millicente Markup percentage is everything actually. It demonstrates just how much of a ride the company is willing to take consumers on in selling to idiots who are pulled in by the seductive marketing. It's very simple. I understand that overpriced items are sold in every industry, but that doesn't change the fact that they're overpriced and the company is pulling everyones leg in doing so. Supercars are luxury status items with decades of brand prestige attached to them. Cycling is a sport. These aren't Rolex watches that are going to increase in value or something, they are simply bikes overpriced because the company knows high income individuals will gladly eat up the exaggerative marketing and buy them regardless. No ones forced to purchase them, but it's ok to call it out what it is.
@Millicente Жыл бұрын
@@stu3232 Saying cycling is a sport is saying cars are transportation. You're not wrong but you're using a straw man by not boiling everything down too. Rolex watches don't hold inherent value. It's only "idiots who are pulled in by the seductive marketing" that have decided that a rolex commands that kind of value. Supercars are status items, rolexes are status items, and for many, top of the line bikes are status items. From a certain view, the top end bike could even be less stupid than a supercar or a rolex. The supercar is limited by road speed limits and isn't used at what many people would call the highest level of racing: F1, and many rolexes don't do much more than tell time which any $2 watch from a convenience store will do. At least the top end road bikes are the exact ones used by pros at all the races. Are these simplifications? Yes, but so is calling a top of the line bike "chinese trash" or "chinese cut and paste" or "just companies trying to rip people off" which so many people do. As you say, no one is forced to buy them, people are making a choice. You could even say a business's job is finding the absolute highest line in the balance between someone's choice to buy and not buy, and to work to push that line ever higher. They're not pulling anyone's leg here. No one says you need the superbike to cycle, just like no one says you need the hypercar to travel. People just want it. These are bicycles, we're not comparing necesities.

For the same strength, a carbon-fiber frame weighs less than a bicycle tubing of aluminum or steel. The choice of weave can be carefully selected to maximize stiffness. The variety of shapes it can be built into has further increased stiffness and also allowed aerodynamic considerations into tube profiles. Carbon fiber reinforced plastic frames, forks, handlebars, seatposts and crank arms are becoming more common on medium- and higher-priced bicycles. Think about the level of engineering required to build a 1000cc superbike then think about how much engineering required for these frames. It's just not the same league, yet they squeeze Asian companies to build the frames for a pittance and then lay a James Bond esq smoke screen by saying the carbon layup was complex and not allowing warranty claims or supporting purchasers ala Spezislised SL7 pr disaster. They can go themselves. Middle finger up 🖕

The System Six is a Gr8 Aero Bike. Wouldn't purchase one . Way 2 Heavy . They need 2 send it 2 Specialized so they can put the from on a diet. Think the Factor Aero Bike & the new Ostro Vam would be better . As 4 the Cannondale u just Road have improved & as U mentioned it looks more like a Specialized Tarmac

Hi MOD 2 Version at £8,250 not fully integrated cabling at head tube. That is a big disappointment at that price.

I feel like that is a benefit rather than a drawback though. If you have fully internal cable routing than it becomes a pain to service which would become anytime you take it on a flight. You also constantly see people saying they are not fans of integrated cable housing so this pleases those people. Plus I am sure that Cannondale probably did some Aero testing and found the gains to not be worth it to offer integrated cable housing at that price point.

Eye watering costs ...Value for money NO ..i can purchase many new Honda motor cycles or scooters for a fraction of these over priced bikes one can also purchase many Alloy framed bikes for $ 1500 / $ 1700 which will last way longer than carbon and give its riders just the same level of enjoyment.
