Hey guys! So this video was filmed before Lexus announced the changes coming for the 2024 model year and we are sad to confirm that changes for the IS lineup for 2024 are very minimal and the car did not get the new Lexus interface infotainment system which was a rumor. Lexus did introduce a special appearance package for the IS 500 F-Sport for 2024 and only 150 units will be produced in a special Blue Vector paint job with matching contrast blue stitching on the interior. We expect a new generation to show up for 2025.

"new generation" does that mean still keep V8?

How can they be a new MY2025 IS when this version barely came out 3 years ago. MY2026 is more realistic. Also, the push for that new Toyota infotainment interface cheapens almost every lexus. Removing the track pad removes the luxury feel. It's not always about those big screens. MB, BMW all maintain a form controller aside from touching the screen

This looks just as muscly as a Camaro, is as luxurious as an Audi S5, shaped closely to a Porsche Panamera and will drive probably just as many miles as a Toyota Camry. It's was hard for me to imagine adding it to the garage because I have a Corvette. But after driving all day in the vette while thinking about this car, it really is the quieter, comfier ride with a ride height for the real world and the reliability to put the pretty expensive price tag in a safer financial category. You can get a used 911 for the same price, a used Audi S5/6/7/8 for the same price and even the LC500 is a little bit more. But after 10 years, this IS500 would give you just as many smiles without many trips to the mechanic. Me being a huge Kansas Jayhawk fan, I absolutely love the spec of this car! I would love it regardless. That blue color is gorgeous and the bright red interior makes it look that much better! Despite it being on the older side, I wouldn’t choose anything else over it. With it being a Lexus (my favorite brand), and having that V8, I’d choose this over all of its rivals in a heartbeat. Also another odd thing, I have a 2015 RC350 AWD and for some reason it’s only getting 17 MPG and 300 miles of range. I only do city driving and I don’t drive it super hard all the time and it’s still only getting in the 17’s in the city. I’ve even been driving it in normal mode instead of Sport+ mode to see if that’d make a difference and sadly it hasn’t. I don’t really care all that much because it’s not the car for good MPG obviously but I just can’t believe that a car with just a V6 could be getting the same gas mileage as a car with a big ass V8 under the hood and the same range on top of that. My RC also has the same size 17.5 gas tank as well. I know it’s heavy because of the AWD but if it gets the same MPG as a V8 IS500, that’s just annoying so idk why it’s like that. Very odd. Great video!
@blu_is500 Жыл бұрын
The AWD in your RC350 is only a 6speed transmission and weighs the same as the IS500. The IS500 has an 8speed transmission, so the extra gears allows it to run at a lower RPM than the AWD. (The engine isn't working as hard.) That's why the IS500 is a bit more efficient than the AWD. I had a 2016 IS350 FSport RWD and it had the 8speed transmission, weighed about 200lbs less than the IS500, and it posted a better 2 to 3 mpg's over the V8.

12:45 I actually prefer that style cruise control stalk over buttons on the steering wheel. Many Asian car companies used the same stalk for their cruise control (old Hyundai and Kia for example). Like the turn signal stalk, it’s universal and you know how to use it without looking at it. Push the button the end to turn cruise on or off; push down to set the speed or to slow down; push up to speed up or resume; pull towards you to cancel. Unlike steering wheel buttons which are not universal and placed in different locations on different cars.

Positives-engine, reliability, build quality, price. Negatives-transmission, some dated tech. Other criticisms of this car also apply to the M2 for example-weight, steering feel, etc. At the end of the day it is a nice car to drive, not a car for number/tech whores.

I much prefer the steering in the Lexus - it doesn't feel overboosted or twitchy and has some semblance of feel. I find the M2 tempting, but the atrocious fake engine sound and obsession with huge screens are major turn-offs for me. Plus, the IS 500 is undoubtedly the better daily driver.

Scat Pack too big, see similar complaints as M2 when it comes to the M340i.

My wife has a 2023 300AWD F-Sport (Canadian model), with the upgraded Lexus exhaust. She loves it, after owning a SH-AWD TLX and a BMW 528 with x-drive. I’m a slow poke with my 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road, but enjoy driving her car. I wish the V8 came in AWD, as we would’ve stretched to buy it.

Nice car but i paid about the same for my CT4 BW and got more. If i didnt want a manual, the IS500 is almost a contender. Lexus also claims better reliability and having a spare tire is nice. Cadillac beats this everywhere else. Funny how the BW wasnt even mentioned as a competitor.

That’s the thing about Lexus. They are super conservative with their technology and updating compared to the German rivals. BMW, Mercedes, ect, always jumps on the newest state of the art technology and as a result they have more issues. Lexus knows what works. There is a reason why people own a Lexus and the German brands, they lease it.

It's a small compact performance car, well built & everlasting if looked after. Keeps saying old? Anything bigger wouldn't be as nimble. I have an IS F in Vermillion Red which is to be chipped & has a modified exhaust system.

@ 26:18 - For those that said Genesis wouldn't be successful, here's your proof. They essentially took over the coveted spot that the Infiniti G35/G37 used to have, and also surpassed Acura and Lexus in the segment. Surprised it even bested the C class. So for those that think people only care about a badge and won't care about specs, value, and driving dynamics, think again! And btw, Genesis has done less than half the marketing of the other players, so let that sink in for a minute! Infiniti is for sure regretting every single action they've taken since 2013 to soften the brand. Hiring Johan de Nysschen became their Achilles heel, and ultimately their executor.

Another great review! The transmission, in auto mode, can be caught with its pants down. This is why I drive mine in Manual, Sport S+, and keep the RPMS at 4K or more 100% of the time. Gas mileage is crap doing that, but I’m always in the powerband and ready for shenanigans! 😎 Two things… The remote start via the fob works for this car too. (Hitting the button 3 times and hold it…) I have the same spec, but with the Silver Enkei wheels. My murder scene red is polarizing, but I absolutely LOVE it! #HeroSpec 💙❤️ Thanks for posting! P.S. The Bridgestones are crap! I got to 7k miles and had to swap them out for Michelin PS4S. I also swapped out the air filter for the TOM’s and the car breathes so much better. Lastly…take the old girl up to the mountains. It’s sooo good!

0-60 blah blah blah. This car is amazing and its a shame to leave it behind, especially in this color. Take "very very old" with a grain of salt, lets be honest. It’s not as mean sounding because unlike the LC the IS 500 and RCF have more resonators and mufflers on the exhaust . The LC only has the two rear mufflers and a high flow CAT and almost straight pipe the entire mid pipe . Otherwise they sound exactly the same when you mode any of the three with aftermarket exhaust and midpipe . Meisterschaft being the one I’d highly recommend for any of the three .
@ARentz07 Жыл бұрын
For this reason, I'm considering a midpipe for mine. Even a bone stock LC 500 sounds great, and I would be happy if I could emulate that sound with my IS 500.

As someone who has driven turbo and non tubo...Turbo cars are significantly more fun...Strap a twin turbo to this engine and 0-60 is in the 3 seconds...Plus the new German cars have eliminated lag....N/A engines are not better imho
@yousef.al-assaf Жыл бұрын
Turbo is only good for low-end. Once you go 60 MPH+, they are nearly dead. NA pulls and pulls, especially the 2UR-GSE. A supercharger is what works best with its nature. It hauls ass
@pete64041 Жыл бұрын
@@yousef.al-assaf Yes, but most driving around from lights, city is low-end...It is very nice for barely touching the peddle and taking off like a jet... I liked the supercharger i drove once on the land rover...NA may pull better at high end but like i said they aren't as enjoyable imo or fun as a turbo...
@yousef.al-assaf Жыл бұрын
@pete64041 I am guessing you live in NA? You must do lots of highway driving lol. I own one here in Canada. Drive on highways a lot because everything here is far in this spacious country, and even older Ms/AMGs think twice before trying me out lol. A supercharger will add to the low end while crazily boosting its high end. Needs more aftermarket support though. RR Racing products are too expensive for the average Joe.

I mean if we’re comparing to a M340i segment then yea this is a no brainer option but c’mon ever since 2008 it’s direct competitors were an actual M3 , C63 amg & RS5 . imo they running from the smoke with the new M3’s , NA is awesome don’t get me wrong but everyone knows this is a direct competitor to the M3s the M340 variants came after the fact , wayyyyy after 2008
