I think this car (particularly the Chevy) has done an amazing job of offering you the car you need instead of the car you think you want. The only criticism I can think of that I'd consider fair when the price is this good and you're getting a car that's big enough to carry 4 adults or a rear facing child seat, and that's the fact that this would really benefit from being a hybrid. My wife has the hybrid Sportage and the extra 1200 dollars spent gives you better mileage and better acceleration. That would be a real bargain in this car if they could do it for that price.

My wife just got an st. I can honestly tell you that it absolutely feels far more peppier than what the horsepower numbers would have you believe. I thought it was going to be a giant turd. It’s not. The way it’s geared it uses that torque very effectively. There’s a little turbo lag on take off and if you’re not used to it and instead of waiting on the boost and you give it more gas it will absolutely spin the tires a hair. Everything feels well built and solid. Good materials where it matters especially for the price. There is some hard touch plastics but it doesn’t take away from the design for me. The dual screens are nice. Fairly basic, but high def and very nice for car play. It’s a really fantastic vehicle for the price.

Since Chevrolet is supposed to be the bargain brand for GM, the Chevy Trax should have used the 1.2L turbo 3-cylinder engine. Then because Buick is supposed to be pseudo luxury the Envista should have used the 1.3L turbo 3-cylinder engine on the Preferred and ST trims and should have surprised everyone by putting a detuned version of the 2L turbo 4 cylinder engine in the Avenir.

I don't see why not having AWD is an issue and disqualifies it an a SUV. Almost half of shoppers buy the cheaper FWD option of much larger popular SUV's whenever it's available, and 90% of AWD shoppers literally don't need/hardly use it. Honestly I think it was smart of Buick to make this the cheaper FWD only model, LOOK at it! 👀 Tell me what soul is taking THAT off-road to any degree? I get it kinda helps a bit in the snow/rain (if it's a decent system) but 99% of drivers in a FWD car with half decent tires and common sense don't really struggle with that south of the Canadian border.

Questions on reliability and durability. A turbocharger strapped to a 1.2L 3 Cylinder engine is going to be VERY stressed most of the time, especially in hilly or mountainous areas. Cooling system is going to get a stress test too. FREQUENT oil changes and coolant flushes are going to be required for anything approaching "long life" - 100,000 miles. @TheAxlin Жыл бұрын
Makes no sense, that would only work if they held market dominance. In reality they have multiple competitors and it's a highly competitive segment. If they intentionally jeopardized their own lineup it would only push people to other brands. More likely, the smaller engines were selected to achieve a lower price point. It seems clear that GM's strategy to gain market share is by positioning brands like Chevy and Buick as being more value-oriented. I mean, who would honestly buy them otherwise?
@marktester5799 Жыл бұрын
I think it has more to do with increasingly restrictive emissions and efficiency regulations. There is no federal rule on lifespan, so pop an underpowered micro-engine in to get those mpg numbers up (when driving unloaded on level ground), and reduce the power train warranty from 100k miles to 36k.

How does a 3 cylinder look as far as lasting in higher miles. Say 100k plus?
@SeanBordelon4 ай бұрын
A long time unless people drive it like teenagers.

Super stylish car and interior...the major downfall is the engine. I went to the dealership and drove one when they first arrived. The first thing i noticed was a loud ticking almost like a lifter knocking, most likely the injectors. Hesitated on the purchase to research the engine a bit before buying one. It has a wet timing belt.. not a fan of a ticking timebomb, as the belt wears and the oil break down the rubber belt, the fragments clog the oil pickup causing the engine to lock up. But the Transmission is pretty good. So all in all, the car itself is awesome, but the motor is crap.

People can afford it. But damn a 3cyl motor? How reliable is it?

Biggest downfall for me is no AWD. Want something like this as a family car
@wolfshanze5980 Жыл бұрын
Not everyone needs AWD... I suppose your answer will be "but I need to get my family out of the snow-packed roads" or something... it's those kinds of mentalities I find amazing. Not everyone deals with snow packed roads... ever hear of Florida, or anywhere else in the south... how about Global sales... like oh... I dunno... the Philippines? It doesn't have to be AWD to be a good family car.

Mazda is the Tops for budget luxury. Buick just calls it that.
@lilred1107 Жыл бұрын
Mazda is good for luxury looks, but all models have a firm ride and steering, that's not luxury. Buick has better ride characteristics, quieter interiors that is befitting of luxury. Buick has always been known for smoothness and quiet interiors.

Its pretty sad that we have to offshore our vehicles the Trax and now the Envistia the hp sounds awful weak at 137 I'd take the Trax looks nicer
@TheCoCoBully Жыл бұрын
Thought the same. Unfortunately the trax 24’ isn’t in yet. I’m 100% for a nice screen. At least nicer than a Chryslers 🤡 And the trax 23’ has a goof screen. Unless someone is in a rush to get a ride I’d wait for the trax as well
@carhoarder602 Жыл бұрын
Why do they keep putting 3 cylinder engines? Same with Chevy trax. At least offer 2 or 3 engine sizes
@wolfshanze5980 Жыл бұрын
Because people demand sub-30K cars... then when you cut costs to get them a sub-30K car, they complain it's too cheap. If you want a bigger engine there's tons of options out there... but you're going to pay more than 30K for it.

Reasonably priced considering, but the screens are gonna be horrible with glare.
@wolfshanze5980 Жыл бұрын
Modern screens dont care about glare... I have a 2023 Tucson Hybrid, Hyundai was so confident about glare not being an issue at all, that the driver gauge cluster is 100% digital screen WITH NO SUN SHADE OVER IT AT ALL... I live in Florida, and have a panoramic sunroof... I can get a fully Florida sunny summer day with the sunroof open, no cover over the gauge cluster... and... I can read it just fine, not one problem with glare. I assume GM did the same with the Trax/Envista... if they didn't, shame on them, the tech is out there.

Yikes! I love how people glorify a pretty car with it low price and downplay the fact it has a tiny 3 cylinder motor! What is this...bizarro world? American used to crave strong powerful long lasting motors! Now this! Get real! No reserve power, no longevity, no resale if you're being honest really. This is a car you buy for 2, maybe 3 years, then you unload it on some smuck who thinks it's a gem. It's not. It's a pretty car with lots of attractive features that no rational adult would ever even consider. Telling the truth even tho you probably don't want to hear it! 3 cylinders! Are you freaking kidding me?
