No don't "learn" from Bo Nix. You are drafting a prospect not a player. Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix were always going to be the best as rookies because of their age. Players like Caleb Williams and Drake Maye have 2 years to get to their level and are spending those years in an NFL system so they should develop faster than in college. People judge quarterbacks too early in their development (which is what you are doing) but Daniels and Nix will always have higher floors and lower ceilings than Maye and Williams

Every 20 (ish) years, starting in 1983, there is a gem of a QB draft class. '83 had Jim Kelly, John Elway, and Dan Marino. 2004 had Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger. This year we have Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Bo Nix, and JJ McCarthy. Not trying to say that any of these guys are guaranteed to be as good as the others, but I think it's an interesting coincidence.

People like to claim Bo is average and is just benefiting from a good scheme and great defense. I don’t think those people actually watch the games. Don’t get me wrong, Sean Payton is obviously a genius and is scheming guys open a lot but where Bo is excelling right now is reading defenses and getting to his second and third reads in good time and making accurate throws. That’s not a part of scheming in this context. It’s information processing, decision-making, and mechanics. That’s playing NFL QB at a high level and that’s precisely what Sean has been praising him for in his development recently. Also this whole notion that he has a high floor and low ceiling because he’s 24 is utter garbage. He has improved every year he’s played football and has improved at the speed of light this season. There is literally not a single piece of evidence that would suggest he has a low ceiling or that he can’t keep getting better. All evidence actually contradicts that. People just had preconceived ideas about him from when he was 17 years old at Auburn in an absolutely horrendous situation with an abusive, incompetent head coach. They’re married to this idea that he is just average and they’ve been selling that idea for so long that now they’re given evidence on the contrary and they kick the can down the road instead of admitting they’re wrong. “Okay so he’s not total garbage but he isn’t gonna improve anymore than this and doesn’t have the same ceiling as guys like Caleb or Drake.” Based on what? Actually, what are you basing this on? Defenses are getting more tape on Bo and he just keeps putting up better performances.

@billbellell9462Ай бұрын
This QB draft class looks to be comparable with the Elway/Marino/Kelly/Blackridge draft class. We will see how their careers go but they are having a hell of a great start. Nix and Daniels are lighting up the league. Both are doing things not expected from rookie QBs. Daniels had best get back on track before Nix beats him out for ROTY. They are trending in the opposite directions right now; Nix is trending up while Daniels has cooled off a bit lately. These two may meet in a SB in the not-too-distant future. It is a very interesting time as a new crop of QBs have the last two seasons are added to the league's better QB list. Outside of these two rookie QBs, the remainder of them are in poor situations.

And then he got sent to Purgatory (Jacksonville). QB looks like a purely individual position, but it’s not. Coaching and offensive schemes matter, the offensive line and its coaching matter. Here's another easy to see future disaster, if they don't fire Ryan Poles, the Bears are going to stay the same team. Poles two major weaknesses will haunt Williams until Poles is gone, he can't spot coaching talent and he can't spot offensive line talent. He's tried to address the O line, he has just whiffed on all of his acquisitions.

The guy responsible for team morale just basically pantsed his QB in front of everyone. That was the *first clue* that he was sabotaging Fields' career, but not the last. Another one was when Fields called out his own coaches for messing with him. Then suddenly the Bears for No Apparent Reason changed their plays & the offense averaged 31 ppg. Then they returned to calling ones they knew produced under 20. The thing is, the plays during that 31 ppg run couldn't have been Eberflus'. He comes from a defensive background. The ones producing under 20 were his. _But_ is he smart enough to know when to not meddle in the offense? Or is he a micromanager who took the undermining of fields on *because* he wants to Be In Charge more than he wants to win? I'm thinking it's that. We saw one game that showed improvement. Jayden Daniels,Drake Maye,Bo Nix have some of the worst supporting cast surrounding them before the season started.All 3 seem to play with poise.A lot of people gave Caleb Williams the generational tag.I thought the Bears would make the playoffs.The improvising he did at USC is not in his arsenal right now.A team with D.J Moore,Rome Odunze and Keenan Allen should be top 5 in offense ypg.

I have been really impressed by Daniels, he has really no help and still has looked good. Maye I really like. If he can stay healthy I think he has the highest ceiling. While Bo Nix is playing very well, he’s kind of where o thought he would be. I’m worried what Nix is today is his peak and he’s not gonna get much better. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good quarterback and with the right team you can win with him, I just don’t see him carrying a team like maye or Daniel’s could someday. I was never a fan of Williams. To me he’s Jalen hurts. Totally dependent on the team around him. It’s a really good class. I also think McCarthy can play as well to add to it.

Tbh caleb is the worst of the 4 so far. Obviously alot will change over their careers but as of right now my ranking would be 1. Daniels (obviously) 2. Nix (Has had his struggles, but has shown some elite upside as well, namely his monster game against atlanta) 3. Maye (hasn't had a superstar level performance yet, but the potential is definately there. Also out performing Caleb while being in a worse situation than him) 4. Williams (Hasn't been terrible, in fact has been pretty good at times but has also been very inconsistent. He has a handful of weapons on offense and a good defense, yet has only achevied a 4-6 record.)

Caleb would be 6-4 if not for horrible coaching.
@ChewsCarefully2 ай бұрын
@@owtkvst You don't know that. For one thing, after Fields called out the play-calling in '22 the team changed it all & he _proved_ it was only the play-calling by averaging 31 ppg with a far worse roster & o-line. Then the team returned to calling the plays that produced under 20 ppg. & that's what happened. With the new plays, against a team that can't stop the run & turned the ball over, he scored under 20. Call me when this better roster & play-calling averages *over* the 31 ppg Fields got *on a team that was actively sabotaging him.*
@owtkvst2 ай бұрын
@@ChewsCarefully lmao. Wait. Are U really sitting here saying the playcalling was objectively worse under Getsy? Lmao. Waldron was just as bad if not worse than Getsy. And Caleb still had a stretch of offensive success that hasn’t been seen by a Bears team in over 60 years. From the Rams game through the Jags game, the offense averaged 31 PPG. They scored B2B 35 points(first time in over 50 years) and 5 offensive TDs B2B for the first time ever. Fields has NEVER done that. Also, it’s funny you talk about plays changing because that’s exactly what happened with Caleb. Waldron called a much different game against the Rams, Jags, and Panthers than he did against the Commanders, Cardinals, and Patriots and the offense fell off a cliff because of it. He gets fired and the offense immediately looks much better. Waldron was horrible. So was Getsy. Caleb still has had more success than Fields had as a Bear.
@ChewsCarefully2 ай бұрын
@@owtkvst Wtf? I just pointed out that after calling out his play-callers, Fields averaged 31 ppg under different plays. Is that a smaller or larger sample size than 2 games, 1 where the Rams had No Defense Whatever & Swift finally figured out how to get YAC again followed by the Jaguars. Fields, defense lost 3 of those 4 games showing he didn't even have the advantage of a lot of drives. Next, when did I say _Getsy's_ offense was worse? Matt Eberflus boasted about how he decided what plays to limit the offense to & was so convincing that reporters stopped speaking to Getsy At All. Did you know there's a clip of Eberflus refusing to shake Fields' hand when Fields came to him after a TD in the preseason of '22? Between that & that the Bears launched No Investigation into his claims of coaches sabotaging the offense it seems pretty clear that The Reason 'Flus was hired over better candidates was to carry out Poles' wish to have Fields look so inept that they'd have to move on from him. That's what every new GM wants, locker-room leaders & players at key positions from the previous régimes out the door. Khalil Mack, Roquan, Monty. If you think Getsy was calling the under 20-point offense, then how did this Highly Competent Matt Eberflus not notice they weren't scoring 31 points any more for the next year? Those 4 games were called by Getsy with far less interference from 'Flus after Fields called this all out because he feared getting exposed. They also returned to those plays weeks 11 & 14-17 in '23 when issues with the defense (the DC quitting after _not_ being investigated by the FBI?) forced 'Flus to be so busy with the defense he again interfered less with the offense. He needn't have worried. Even most NFL analysts can't tell the difference between QBs being bad because they're bad or can't handle the pressure (Zach Wilson) or a Geno Smith or Sam Darnold. & obviously, NFL coaches & GMs have the same blindness when they act towards players based on social media memes & no analysis. Fields continued making the amazing throws that set Accuracy _RECORDS_ in college whenever the opportunity arose. Eberflus (& now Arthur Smith is doing it too) took steps to limit his opportunities to do so. Remember that on-the-run throw he made to Pickens 30+ yards down the field & the highlight reel TD both in week 2, both annulled by penalties? That's Fields' terrible luck right there. People just spew memes they heard elsewhere over & over 'til they believe them. But he keeps making throws no one else can.
@owtkvst2 ай бұрын
@@ChewsCarefully bro, stop it. You’re arguing something that’s factually incorrect. Fields has never been an elite thrower of the football in the NFL. Playcalls hindered him. Yes. I’m not denying that. But even in Pittsburgh you can see his deficiencies. Robotic and slow footwork, sporadic accuracy, he takes too long to read the field, the field has to basically be cut in half for him, and the offense has the revolve around him using his legs. That’s not a Bears or anybody else issue, those are Fields issues. I agree playcalling did Fields no favors here, but Fields has done himself no favors either. It’s not some conspiracy. As shown by his time in Pittsburgh.

And me personally ima believer of history repeats itself just in an updated fashion. Which is why I’ve been calling Drake Maye “Drake Kelly” lol. Bith were the 3rd QB taken in the only 2 drafts to draft 6 QBs first round. Both big strong arm QBs that grew up in house hold full of siblings competing everyday. Which they both are quoted to be a major factor in the success on the field and in life as a competitor. 😂

For now. We all know some of them- at least one- will fall off spectacularly after this year, if not by the end of it. The only question is who. I wish them all the best, but we know how this goes. I can see all of them not working out. Daniels perhaps falls into the 12-18 ramge because of coaching stubborness, Maye collapses because of organisational dysfunction, Williams remains a Bear, and/or Nix just becomes an underachieving QB that can't get over the hump or the coach sours on.
