@29:49 that is a Rockwell RACC010 (Riptide) Audio + Modem combo card, i'd ignore the modem part but this card has it's own FM Synthesizer and Software Wavetable MIDI. It also has Directsound 3D capabilities alongside hardware Sound Blaster emulation. (pretty terrible compatibility) I think these card's were only ever found in HP OEM's like those Vectra's and Pavilions.

I like that kind of video in this sort of time. Spinning down the year and relaxing.

11:29 Those things are resettable fuses. Littelfuse calls them "Polyswitch" in case you want to search for them.

Awesome thanks for the info! Will look more into them 👍

The SCSI card with the broken resistor array would have shipped with a Umax SCSI scanner. Back in the days when I was skint, I soldered a 50 pin header on to one and ran an internal Syquest drive off it. I miss those days 🙂

4:29 The S3 Trio64 cards are 1 MB without the sockets populated and 2 MB with the sockets populated. They use 512K EDO DRAM chips.

You did pretty good Mike, it's a lot of money but you're always taking a chance on these lots and this bundle had s lot of gems.

I had to have a closer look at the Ensoniq card at 26:00 to be sure that I was seeing things right, and yeah. There's a 68000 on it 🙂. Apparently a Soundscape OPUS

34:47 that Grappler SCSI card is designed for old macintosh systems (G3/G4) and quite rare nowerdays. Surely somebody else can put it to good use.

That PCX 5750 is a nice get, especially with everything you got.

You should keep more than one PCI USB card as long as they use different chips. Compatibility and performance may vary a lot between USB implementations in those days. And avoid any VIA-based USB cards (didn't seem you got any this time), those have proven issues slowing down the general performance of the machine by like 10% or so. Oh, and that dual-port NIC could be a nice give-away to someone who tinkers with old-school networking specifically.

Interesting mixed bundle. Not sure if its worth the price tag, but some of those cards in the give away would be means of recouping some cash if need be. Given what some sound cards sell for these days :/ Nice video all the same - cheers for sharing 😁

It took me a while to find good USB cards for retro systems. That one from NEC might be worth holding on, especially if it uses an older PCI implementation. There's a very lengthy thread on Vogons about them.

I have that exact Western Digital 8-bit VGA card in my collection! Never occurred to me that it might be worth something.

We used to use the Appian cards for live events to drive multiple projectors. The 4-port Jeronimo Pro was a full-length monster of a card! And on a personal note, in the same period I had a Rage 128 (can’t remember which variant) paired with two Voodoo2 cards in SLI mode. I found the combination the best I could build at the time, can’t remember having any problems with the ATI drivers.

The Rage128GL is not a bad card at all. With 128bit Memorybus this card can do 32bit color depth very good without huge penalties like the TNT and TNT2. The 64bit cards a crap! The V3 needs a new heatsink. Have the same card. Had to put it in to the fridge, removed the heatsink, grinded the topside of the chip flat (glue removal) and glued a new bigger heatsink on it. Very good card without a fan.

$189 usd for a uhaul box full of thirty year old tobacco smell? worth it, the stuff did all look pretty clean. great haul

Very nice :) That's a lot of stuff. Those DVD Decoder cards would be fun to play with. Sort of useless when you have an ATi card installed but could be useful when paired with a Voodoo 3.

lol! I remember getting GLQuake on an S3 card and it was painful. I think 2 FPS is too generous. More like 0.2 I’d say 😁

You could prob get your $s back just by selling the memory chips on the cards you don't want - lol -, or use them in spare sockets to boost the cards you keep.

I got an MXR. It has 128bit memory, and tried nfsu on it, and it decently runs. I got quite a few virges too.
